Great video mate!!!! I'm planning to go there in July and it will be a two-person unsport crossing. Your video helps me a lot and I was thinking to choose the rig road+ K1 line, heard that's a lot easier for a newbie desert rider. But after watching your video I may will change my decision to the French line, realise that will be overweight for my drz if I go rig+k1 (300km more than French line from Mtdare to Birdsville which means extra 15L fuel). Also, I'm very interested to be your teammate and go have some ride with you. I'm in BNE too!!!!

Great work doing it solo. I crossed back in 2018 on my drz 400. I rode from Cessnock NSW to Mt Dare. Met up with a work mate in his 4wd who carried my gear for the crossing. There is a spot called the washing machine which you wont do, now that part would be hard work on a fully loaded bike. I loved it out there. I had great weather for the whole trip. Can't believe seeing the standing water in places. Would like to an unsupported crossing one day. I'm hoping to do a trip out to Blinman and explore the area this year.

Great vid, one of the better ones that hasn't got all the 'flowery' stuff and gives you a more realistic picture of the Simpson. I'm hoping to do a similar ride myself and your efforts have gone a long way in my settling expectations of the ride on a 950adv.
@behindthebarsdownunder2 жыл бұрын
Thanks mate. That was my aim, to try and show what it's like and not sugar coat it to much. Your more keen than I am to do it on a bigger bike, the 690 is enough for me to handle.

Great watching mate. I'm heading up in a week solo on my 701lr. Good to see track footage you've captured. I planned to be coming from west to east after leaving Ute at Tibooburra. Thinking about the double crossing now after watching your trip. Looking forward to no 3.

Excellent video mate what perfect weather it is a real pity you did not have extra time to get across. You seem pretty happy in the sand the last bit from Poeppel to big red is the most fun as the dunes are bigger but mostly straight up allowing you to hit them at reasonable speed it gets a bit more technical further in with the left and right bleeding your momentum but overall it is relatively easy, even though a couple of my mates have told me off for saying that when we crossed. It is a beautiful place. Worth spending a night or two in and having a good look around. There are plenty of people crossing and even if you go solo chances are you will hook up with someone if you want. When are you planning on having another go??
@behindthebarsdownunder2 жыл бұрын
Cheers mate. I never liked sand but on the 690 I'm really enjoying it. I'm sure as the dunes get closer together it would be much tougher riding. Hoping maybe next year to incorporate a crossing into a ride I have planned..

What date did you do your trip ? I think I saw your patrol here in Thargomindah. They only sealed that innamincka to the border road in the last 12 months pretty much. The cooper creek is creeping to the road. Still open with no water over the road so far. I’ll probably run out there in the next week.
@behindthebarsdownunder2 жыл бұрын
Hi mate. I was in Thargomindah on the 7th and 10th The info I had on the road was a bit old. I did see the Adventure Way was shut for a day or so but is re open now.

Enjoyed watching lots of good track footage. What tyre pressure were you running? I always tend to run a bit high on the pressures as I hate getting pinch flats. Thanks for posting. Cheers
@behindthebarsdownunder2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the support. I dropped way to much air out and was down to 13psi in the front and 19psi in the rear. After the flat I went back to 25psi in each.

@@deemclachlan9961 nothing wrong with a KLR. I can't confirm heavier tubes are the go or not, I think the real key is not dropping to much air out.

@@behindthebarsdownunder I counted about 140 dunes from Birdsville to Poeppel Corner, with easy riding in between. You referred to the French line as being 'relentless' with dunes and sand (more tiring?) Thanks for the replies

hey mate heard numerous POV about steering dampers, especially in sand/mud - you think yours is adding to control in the sand?

Hi mate. I was given advice to dial it back in the sand and for me I found that to help compared to where I'd normally run it. Hope that helps.
