@@johnandrews7959 Not really and what's wrong with my comment - its not stupid in any way. If you don't like comment then jog on - I don't recall Ken swearing and his material and talent stood out without the need of any serious swear words - unlike today comics - most of their act full of swear words - it's makes their act cheap, nasty, flat and frankly rubbish.

I wholeheartedly agree! He was and still is, a gift from God to a broken world. He had unlimited talent, time and love for a hurting world and wanted to make people happy. He was 'more' of everything. Thank God he is still with us via the media. What a dry old world it would be if we could never hear his voice again.

Brilliant beyond words. A consummate entertainer. His skill, timing and technique is unquestionably due to his devotion to his 'God given' talent and his love for all people. Is it any wonder that he was, and still is, loved by so many. Could he have managed it all without the constant love of and support of a devoted partner who is just as amazing as he. Perhaps, but I think not. Total devotion was needed from both and given gladly by both in that amazing city of Liverpool. I never realized Liverpool was such an amazing city until recently, when I first heard of Ken Dodd. It is a big world with our own little corner of it, Sadly.

What’s hitting me now, after a lifetime of laughing at, to, and with, Doddy, is just how much of a reputational risk he was taking at every performance. It really was like jumping off of a cliff to see what would happen, deal with it if it didn’t, and press on. Exceptional courage needed to take it on stage and experiment every night.

Thought I better get the record straight, but actual sales figures are difficult to find. The statement appears true regards to “We Can Work It Out/Day Tripper” only. “Tears” plus “The River” sold approx 1,500,000, “Day Tripper” 1 million*, “Help” 900,000* and “Ticket To Ride” 300,000*. Total Beatles UK singles 1965 = 2,200,000* (* At Least). www.beatlelinks.net/forums/showthread.php?t=1351. It, as Viv Stanshall sang, "just quite frankly leaves me bored to 'tears for souvenirs' ”.
