I think we all forget that at the time Journey to Batuu was made, Maxis/EA’s contract with the Star Wars IP was coming up and they had to fulfill their side of the deal so they had to come up with *something*. It was also around the same time we randomly got The Child for free in build/buy. What I’m saying is I’m pretty sure Maxis/EA hates Journey to Batuu as much as we do 😂

Gosh the amount that could have been in Batuu, like a Jedi/Sith occult, alien overhaul or a full rework. A livable world with buildabul lots, a fleshed out storyline (similar to Strangerville). Just so much lost potential, because it was just made to advertise the Disney Park and to make sure EA got to keep the Star Wars License. xO

I love Journey to Batuu. It was one of the first packs that has run down items and an industrial look. I love building abandoned cottages and use the loose wires and weird machinery, the torn rugs and factory style lamps. Also I love to buildcheat the Cantina into a LARP camp. I use the costume picker from Get Famous and let my sims do all kinds of acting skills with the Batuu-sims. I have much more fun with the pack than was intended.

Outdoor Retreat was the first pack after basegame released. I remember buying it for my daughter and she was all excited, but then had no clue how to use any of the things she saw in the trailer. I learned that the vacation experience is only worth it when you are a builder, and you put nice stuff in Granite Falls. We don't need 4 rental lots. We only need 1. All the others can be Spa's, bowling alleys or sabacc casinos. This pack dates from the time where EA still thought that players would use the tools to build their own dreamgame. I love Granite Falls, it's beautiful. But it's only fun for the buildings I put there.

I only partially agree, that Outdoors Retreat is bad. In its defense, it was the first game pack, so EA were still experimenting with the format. And I actually like the idea of a vacation pack, and I realize that with any pack of that format you’d need to make a conscious decision to plan a trip in game, so it’s a bit useless in terms of any other gameplay (I’d say the sims 3 and 2 had somewhat similar problems), so I don’t see it as a problem. However, there’s so little to do in the vacation world, there’re barely any activities besides finding the secret lot, that the whole traveling part is kinda pointless.

I’ve played a lot of buggy games in my many years of gaming but I don’t think I’ve ever seen a company release things as broken as wedding story and NEVER fix it. It’s like a massive “hahaha got your money” while flipping you off and then running away.

I bought it and love it. I never noticed anything broken, except for every random sim being able to ask any other sim to be bridesmaid. Bot married and unmarried sims, which is totally weird, but I just ignore it, just like other silly options like angry pooping.

I love it too because it pairs so well with seasons and I grew up camping. It’s also a pretty world that is mostly all walkable. I am also a builder so it’s so fun for me to make creative lots to explore.

Oh I agree with the camping. I love it! My favorite hobby was hiking but I can no longer do this do to illness. I quite literally live vicariously through the sims now as I was quite the outdoors woman. Now I have chf and can't walk or hike like I used to. My doctor said slow strolls for me now. Sucks cause I would beg for camping for our vacation to my husband.

They would have to fix the fact that occults are reduced to regular sims while in Batuu. I had a vampire in the family and accidentally brought him along on vacation and was so sure that he was going to immediately get toasted and ghosted, but he didn't. His thirst however did go down and he could not drink any sims. There was no option for it. I sent him home and continued with the magic user. Then I realized that the magic user is unable to use spells to keep people from taking her to prison for having broken into the room with the First Order Holo table to complete a quest. Any and all powers are useless during Star Wars vacation. Unless they change that, I really don't see a sith or jedi being worth a purchase. The only Star Wars things that can be used outside batuu is you can ignite the spark and convince sims to join sides and also you're Droid can play music and stuff in your home. Oh and you can use the resistance or first order door with code box in your home as a door only your star wars sim can go through if they have earned a high enough rank. That way if you have prisoners or a second family in the basement, a dumb vampire who keeps going outside in the daytime and getting himself toasted and ghosted again, making the magic user have to bring him back, yet again, they can't leave. I think you can also use the ship too, if you want to cough up a large portion of your home lot to have it there. Maybe next to your rocket if you just really like sending your sim on space adventures.

Journey to Batuu should have been a spin off like The Sims Medieval. Use the same engine as Sims 4, most of the assets copied over, but a separate game entirely. If they had done it that way, sales would have been much better as it would have appealed to more Star Wars fans.

I absolutely love my wedding stories. I'm coming from Mediterranean country, and I'm so happy to have a gorgeous Mediterranean world. Plus, live edit objects are gorgeous and very useful. It all depends on what kind of a Sims gamer you are.

I love Outdoor Retreat, but I also have a lot of childhood memories of going camping so maybe it’s nostalgic for me. I do wish they would go back and make it a regular residential world though. I would still make most lots rentals, but I would love to have a sim buy a cabin and live out there full time.

I just really love the world of tartosa it’s so beautiful. I do a lot of Italian country wine vineyard builds with gorgeous CC +horse ranch+ cottage living. For All my rich sims destination weddings/baby showers

I've changed my mind about Batuu. I did buy it but I listened to sooooo many people complain about it that I avoided really jumping into playing it for about a year. I REALLY loved the BB and used it a good bit. THEN a few months ago I was doing a simmer's challenge and I was randomly given a Sim family to create that came from Batuu. It was 2 sims... an adult brother and his little sister. I decided I needed him to play through A LITTLE of Batuu for skills and to collect items. I ended up playing through it for a week! If you take it for what it is... it's not bad and can be fun as an origin story... or as a periodic vacation for your nerdy sims. It did miss a LOT of opportunities to be better with gameplay. If you enjoy building then it's worth it for the BB and debug. Definitely try to get it on sale or bundled with something else you do like.

I personally like outdoor retreat since the world is closest to my home country in appearance, but I wish they made 3D logs for the cabins, ones we could just stack on the walls. The wall texture isn’t realistic at all without depth

Everything comes with more gameplay....if you was a true simmer you would know that the joy comes from clicking on things and watching your sims perform task....it's all the same from base to end game

The only one I completely disagree with is the pack with Granite Falls. My sims definitely go there for cheap vacations. It's also needed for doing herbalism so you can go to the hidden world for bugs & plants. I wish you could have regular homes there. It's not anywhere near the top of packs for me... but I definitely use it.

I actually like outdoor retreat. While i agree it has not much going for it. BUT if you invest into the world building and make some neat campings it is really woth to do in family letsplays or some supernatural spooky scenarios.

I mostly agree regarding Wedding Stories... I think they should have refunded the cost to everyone and then offered it as a free update. It is ridiculous they haven't done more fixes with it. HOWEVER, there are bits and pieces I like, such as making & decorating the wedding cakes. I wish they expanded decorating to other cakes. Also, I can usually get a wedding & some of the other events to work now if: 1) You don't choose too many activities to do at the wedding 2) Never have the officiant conduct the wedding and 3) Do not include too many guests or famous ones 4) Create a nice but simple wedding venue ... BUT it's really STUPID to be limited like that. Some of the CC & BB is good. If you really like the Sims then get it... bur only when on sale.

I have never ever seen Star Wars but tbh, I quite like Baatu. I don’t really understand anything but the challenges are kind of fun and the bar is cool. I just wish it was a playable world with lots and thqt the spaceship things could fly with sims in them. It’s a nice pack to have when you want a break from earth sims and cool costumes that you can reuse for an in-game cosplay “convention”

Outdoor retreat is a funny one for me, I personally love it, but I’d never advise anyone get it either. 🤷‍♀️ I enjoy the novelty of camping but I don’t think it’s worth money to do it. I have no regrets though.

Outdoor Retreat was a halfway decent pack until it was made redundant by later ones. - Being a vacation world with a unique skill tied to it, rabbithole adventures and a secret lot was fun - but Jungle Adventure did it better - Having all those tents, hygiene supplies and a cooler was wonderful for rags to riches but they're offered by other packs now (mostly Jungle Adventure and Snowy Escape) - Having a bunch of new plants to forage and the herbalism skill were great for playing a botanist or potion maker but Realm of Magic and Cottage Living have those pretty well covered I liked Outdoor Retreat when it came out and got my money's worth out of the build/buy and herbalism even if the vacation world is lacking. But if I were just getting into the game today and knew I could find everything I needed from different packs I would skip it.

The other day I pirated my wedding stories, because it can't be as bad as they say it is, right? Just to be sure, before buying it let me try it out. I was shocked. I had to fight my Sims to do anything at all. Exchanging vows with the officiant? Nah, better vacuum the floor. Took me 5 tries for them to be considered married, even though none of the animations played.

I've never played through it myself but use a shared system with my brothers that have it and every save I start I always get told immediately by a stranger texting me to go to batuu like no I'd do that if I wanted to, I don't need a reminder the day I move in every save!

I start every Sims 4 campaign as a Rags to Riches challenge. So I actually get a lot of use out of the items from Outdoor Retreat. Journey to Batuu could have been good if it was done in the Sims 3 as a DLC world. My favourite World in Sims 3 is Dragon Valley, and it doesn't really matter that the content from that world doesn't fit in with the rest of the Sims 3 because it is it's own separate thing. Better yet; why not make a Star Wars themed sequel to Sims: Medieval? Sims 4 is severely lacking in spin-off games.

I love some of the stuff in all of these packs for decorating and building but I have to say from a gameplay perspective I agree these are the odd ones out. The wedding and retreat feels like basic content for a game like the sims and wedding doesnt even work. Batuu feels kinda janky and weird. I was low key hoping on a star wars world you could visit and live on with stuff to do but it's not even that its an empty boring map you can only visit under special circumstances and most of it is fake and you cannot interact with anything else besides your game quest. So indeed not a good sims game or good star wars game lol cute stuff tho.

I think everybody can agree despite its flaws if all of sims 4 dlc was free updates and the game it self cost $50-70 it would of been a really good game. At this point the base game doesn’t offer enough content and the only thing big about each game pack is the price tag you either have to get a bunch of dlc spending hundreds of dollars or just sail the seas because this gaming industry practice is ridiculous.

I had to lookup walkthroughs for batuu. And in the end i just gave up, went and cheated in rei to my household, grabbed a r2d2 and left. Only to be disappointed when r2d2 was useless in my main game.

I loved the concept of a Star Wars pack, but when I played it, it just seemed like something that wasn’t made carefully. There’s so much bugs, unfinished stuff, just stupid decisions overall etc. it’s a pity they didn’t use the opportunity to make something much better, maybe with a new occult or something. I’m a huge Star Wars fan, so it really sucks that they focused on making different voices for Hondo, Rey and Kylo, and not on making it worth it. But also, I don’t know what I expected.
