Moving out to the edge of the solar system with the Earth receding into the background gave me a strong feeling of longing and a sense of loss at what had been left behind. Imagine being in the cold emptiness of space where nobody will ever find you, nobody will ever know what happened, or what you wanted to say before you disappeared. Do not be afraid. Not of things like this. For us mere mortals, and not particularly good ones either, matters like this are irrelevant. It’s fascinating how as we zoom further and further out there are clear changes of cosmic order. Stars, then galaxies, then super clusters, filaments and finally the cosmic web. If the universe does go on forever, it would be interesting to see what other things we will see. Is the cosmic web just like a galaxy in isolation to others and all of these cosmic webs are part of a larger, yet unknown stucture? Mind blown 🤯
