Nice tutorial. Is there a way that the fracture wont fall off the floor? My intent is that his body starts to crack while he’s walking but the parts won’t fall off. Thanks in advance. 🙌
@simulation_lab3 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Yes, you can try to add a physX Switch after the physX Shape operator, and set it to Kinematic, and then add an Object Bind operator and select the previous flow with your character actor. That way, the fractures should detach, but still follow the movement of the actor. It might also work without the Switch operator, so you can try that. You can also try it without PhysX operators entirely, but you some of the fractures might penetrate each other. Let me know if that works.

Do you have any tutorials where you have a character that is partially controller via a standard rig and partially controlled via tyflow soft body physics? The example I'm looking into is a character getting punched in the face, and where the fist meets his face, his face is properly deformed via the simulation around the fist mesh, but the rest of him is just controlled by a standard rig. Is this something Tyflow is capable of?
@simulation_lab3 жыл бұрын
I believe the method described here could do that.. the trick would be to enable cloth once the fist get's within proximity of the character's face, however, it would be difficult to control the cloth skin once enabled. For example, if you wanted the face to deform, then snap back to it's original shape. There's a way to do it with targets, but I'd have to poke around at it. If you look around on the TyFlow Facebook group, I believe there was someone that did a face-punch sim, but Idk if they had the character controlled with a rig or not.

First of all, huge respect and thanks for all the tutorials you've been making, they really help me a lot in these times where latest 3ds max tutorials are lacking in youtube. My Max learning journey started this very year with your channel. I'm just curious what are the " _other softwares_ " that you've been experimenting with lately (which you mentioned at the beginning of the video).... Don't get me wrong but I'm really worried, if I am wasting my time trying to learn Max starting out from scratch in 2021... because wherever I see, in all forums people recently are talking about how 3ds max is slowly becoming obsolete or dying out because autodesk isn't really pushing any updates with important features, and that other tools are better than 3ds Max in its current state. I'm worried about 3ds max becoming another softimage. A little background info about myself - I'm a mechanical engineering student, I model my stuff in CAD (mostly SolidWorks, sometimes CATIA or Fusion 360). I am learning 3ds Max because it supports all the major CAD formats (most importantly SolidWorks and STEP) import out of the box - something that I wasn't able to find in any other software. This feature is particularly important for me since converting CAD files to other formats means a compromise in mesh quality. No other software, that I can afford/access can import CAD files so easily. Blender devs apparently aren't even considering about any development on this matter. Why I use 3ds Max? - For creating cool looking animations and demonstration videos of mechanisms and machines. I only have access to Max as long as I'm a student, so I really want to make sure if I'm spending my time trying to learn the right software (which has a good future) or should I move on to another tool... Thanks for reading this really long comment. P.S. - excuse the grammatical errors, English isn't my 1st language.
@simulation_lab3 жыл бұрын
Well, once you thoroughly learn one 3D software, you'll notice that many of the concepts carry over into other 3D software, making it much easier to learn new programs. I wouldn't stress too much about a program going obsolete. I think 3ds Max will be around for quite a while, as many different industries us it, and I personally think it's an intuitive beginner-friendly software that has really robust features. That being said, it definitely wouldn't hurt to experiment with other 3D programs, as you might like how certain features work in others.
@Rcomt Жыл бұрын
No, 3ds max is not intuitive beginner-friendly from any point of view. This software has stopped actively developing 20 years ago. In the sense of user experience, it is a disaster.
@simulation_lab Жыл бұрын
@@Rcomt Max definitely has it's quirks, and I'm by no means an Autodesk maximalist, lol. I personally find Max to be more intuitive than say Blender, but in terms of easy-to-learn software, Cinema 4D probably takes the cake. I'd say Max + TyFlow for VFX is nearly as powerful as Houdini, but with a more intuitive UX. I think software choice comes down to which has the right tools for what you're trying to create. If you're brand new to 3ds Max, I have a beginner crash course on my channel that might be helpful to watch before these Tyflow tutorials. These are more advanced, and require a solid understanding of Max, as I don't cover any UI stuff, hot keys, etc.

Thanks man for the tutorial! What if we wanted to simulate a cloth on the character like a cape or so? Would it b ea separate mesh or a part of the character?
@simulation_lab3 жыл бұрын
You're welcome! You would probably want to simulate the cloth as a separate mesh in it's own flow, especially if you want to do any sort of operations on the character like shown in this tut. Optionally, you could also export this sim as alembic or something, and bring it into Marvelous Designer, and simulate cloth there. Just depends on what you're going for.

Can we have tutorial on tractor with different kind of animation and changing the animation according to condition..I mean if we have animation of walking , running, jumping in a character..now wanted to switch animation of actor according to some condition..
@simulation_lab3 жыл бұрын
Hey Ram, If you already have multiple animations set up on your character, you just have to add each frame-range under the actor animations list. The simplest way to change the actor animation in the flow is with a time test or a surface test. For example, if the character walks into a box, the surface test would trigger and you can add an actor animation operator to change the character's animation dynamically. Or with a time test, basically if the event last longer than x frames, then play the next animation that you specify. In the next tutorial, I'll probably include how to do this in more depth.

Hi man, great tutorials! I was wondering, you said that there is an option to create the simulation with one flow rather than two. Is it complicated? Cause I'm trying to create a voronoi simulation with a Mixamo character, and then slowmo it with the retimer, and I can't really make it happen with 2 flows, too many things go wrong. Do you think that it is possible with onw flow? Thanks a lot! :)
@simulation_lab2 жыл бұрын
Thanks! This method uses the first flow as a sort of cache for the second flow. I would think you should be able to retime the second flow without an issue, as it's not modifying any data in the first flow. Regardless, if that doesn't work, you can try to do a send out operator in the first flow, and basically replicate the logic from the second flow shown in the video within the original flow, if that makes sense. I haven't tried that yet, but it should be possible. Let me know what you come up with, or if that doesn't work.
@liatimi2 жыл бұрын
@@simulation_lab Thank you so much for the quick respond! I'll try a send out operator and will let you know :) 10x again!

well, unfortunately the mesh gets deformed during a collision, might have something to do with the bones of the character. Than you any way!!
@Rcomt Жыл бұрын
Starting from 9:25, absolutely doesn't work for me (tyflow v1.008). After linking in the Birth Objects operator, the second tyflow only spawns a dot at the place where the first tyflow is, and not even at the place of the object. It does not display any geometry. When I hide the first tyflow that contains geometry, there is nothing in the second. I checked Display, and it is set to Geometry in both. I am so tired of dealing with that piece of software.
@simulation_lab Жыл бұрын
Hmm that could be the cause of a couple different issues, but the second flow should be able to reference the first. Here's an example file from the tutorial. Check this out, and see if this works for you: www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/mg902t00yf3n25fmqy1wi/Dude_SkinDeformTut_01.max?dl=0&rlkey=ow73k76yujk161z7v2nsnu1js

@@simulation_lab thank you for the source file. It works for me. These seem to be some settings by default that make it possible or impossible for one tyflow to see geometry in another one. I shall try to adapt that source file for my model (which is a deforming cloth with baked keys).
@simulation_lab Жыл бұрын
@@Rcomt I'm glad it works! With newer versions of TyFlow, there might be some settings that have changed, so I'll keep my eye on that for future tutorials. Good luck on using this method with your model! 🙂

Is there a way to do it but with the original mesh's textures? In your example, the mesh would be orange, and not with the original textures?
@simulation_lab3 жыл бұрын
Yes, you can apply the original texture to the Tyflow object, and the mapping should carry over from the original mesh. Tyflow doesn't carry over texture info when referencing scene objects, so you have to re-apply them. If you're referencing multiple scene objects in a single flow, I would recommend creating a multi-sub material for all referenced assets and applying that to your flow.
@peruvianpuffpepper9043 жыл бұрын
@@simulation_lab I'm still new to tyflow, how would you apply the original texture to the tyflow object?
@simulation_lab3 жыл бұрын
@@peruvianpuffpepper904 In your material editor, you can use that eye-dropper tool to select the texture of your original mesh. Then you can just select your TyFlow object, and apply the material. I have a materials basics course on my channel that covers simple material creation, using the material editor, etc. if you need a bit more help with that.
