Sinéad O'Connor's funeral hears of legacy of singer and how she suffered in life | ITV News

The funeral for Sinéad O’Connor has been told she was "gifted with a voice that moved a generation".
The service took place in Bray, Co Wicklow on Tuesday morning.
Thousands packed the streets of Bray as a cortege passed by her former home in the seaside town.
Imam Shaykh Dr Umar Al-Qadri who delivered Sinead O'Connor's funeral prayer, said the service was "moving" and "spiritual."

I loved her from the first time I played The Lion and the Cobra. 2006. As a young person we had a Sinead O'Connor fan club in highschool, where we raved endlessly about her intelligence, song writing and of course, singing. I knew she struggled, I knew she was both ferocious and fragile. I knew she was terribly abused, but I always hoped she would be able to steer the path. When I found out she passed, I pulled off the freeway and wept. This American supported her brave assault on the Catholic church 100 percent.

I often think about how do we reach out to those who are suffering. Especially those in the public consciousness. I suffered deeply and sought support in a time there was only the Samaritans. I just watched Deenshow and found out that she did have her Islamic funeral prayer and the family allowed the sheikh who she took her shahada from to do full Islamic rites. I think the family then wanted to have their time with her so nothing wrong with that.
