Some of you asked for a longer comment. Be careful what you wish for because you're gonna get it...:D THE SONG - "War Pigs" was written by all four members of Black Sabbath - Tony Iommi (guitar), Ozzy Osbourne (vocals), Geezer Butler (bass) and Bill Ward (drums). Iommi, Butler, and Ward have variously stated that the song was developed from extended jams during club gigs during their early days. "War Pigs" is the first track of their second album 'Paranoid' which was recorded June 16 to 21, 1970 and released on Sept 18, 1970. "War Pigs" was not released as a single. 'Paranoid' entered the Billboard Hot 200 album chart at #25 on Feb 20, 1971. It peaked at #12 on Mar 20 dropping to #15 the following week. The album stayed within the top 20 until May 15, 1971 and spent a total of 76 weeks on the chart. "War Pigs" is considered to be an anti-war song. Originally it was titled "Walpurgis" and was meant to be more Satanic. Geezer Butler, who wrote the lyrics, said "It wasn't about politics or government. It was Evil itself and, to me, war was the big Satan." The record label felt it was too Satanic so the band changed the title. According to Butler "War Pigs" was "totally against the Vietnam War" but Ozzie Osbourne has stated that they "knew nothing about Vietnam. It's just an anti-war song." THE COLLABORATION - The vocalist is Johnny Kovacs, of the band Tyler Leads, who was featured on the 9th Chi Might II video "Redemption Day" published on June 29. His vocal track for "War Pigs" was recorded on the same day that he did the "Redemption Day" vocals. The recording process was a bit unusual. According to Mike Wilbury, Johnny sang along with the playback of the original Black Sabbath recording. Several weeks later, Sina did the same, recording her drum part over the original track. It was not simple due to the tempo changes. Once that was done, the tracks were sent to Andrei so that he could contribute his guitar parts. Meanwhile Sina worked hard studying Geezer Butler's bass playing and, when Andrei had finished his work, it was Sina's turn again. In her pursuit of perfection, it took many hours to finish. Clearly her bass playing has improved tremendously and she delivered well above and beyond the call. ARTIST'S COMMENTS - We asked Andrei about his approach to the guitar parts. He admits to not being a big Sabbath fan favoring Randy Rhoads's work with Ozzy. He told us "the songs that I like a lot are "Crazy Train" and "Mr Crowley." We all know he's a big fan of the late Gary Moore. Andrei added "Gary Moore was playing, at the beginning of his career, Heavy Metal with Blues Influences, and he kept this style for a long time! Also I listen to a lot of heavy metal bands, so "War Pigs" was not something new for me." Tony Iommi tunes down his guitar - a technique very common with metal bands. For the recording Andrei said "I used standard tuning for one guitar, and, for the second, I used drop D, to give a more modern sound." Andrei estimates that, since it's a cover, he was able to copy about 90% of the parts note-for-note but he always tries to put some of his own style into covers. Andrei offers the following advice - "Believe in your talents, don't try to do something that it's not yourself!" We asked Sina about playing bass. She said "The first half of "War Pigs" is not that complicated. During the solo part I literally learned and recorded bar by bar, so no camera there!" Despite her excellent result, she still feels she has much to learn. Does playing bass help her drumming? - "Absolutely. It is very important to listen to the other musicians while playing. Especially for the drummer to listen to the bass player and the other way round. It really helps to know a little bit about the instrument you're listening to." Bill Ward grew up with some swing and jazz influences but became a very physical, hard-hitting drummer. He even used some examples of what later became known as blast beats and some call him the father of heavy metal drumming. We asked Sina - You had to play over his original track. Did you try to emulate his style and copy his fills or did you decide to drum "War Pigs" in your own style? Sina said "I tried to play the fill passages that everybody knows and associates with the song as close to the original record as possible. I mean for example the section beginning around 1:50. During the slower intro and during the solo parts I tried playing more 'in the style of' than copying his exact fills." Sina would like all her fans to know that this "is the first full song recorded with my new black oyster kit." This is not the first time that Sina has tackled Black Sabbath with Bill Ward. Check out her older videos for "Heaven And Hell" published Feb 5, 2016. It's called a drum cover but it's a lot like a collab. PERSONAL NOTE - I have to thank Sina, Andrei, and Mike for spending so much time answering Ro's questions - and to Ro for her determination to try an "expanded" comment.I hope it meets with your approval!

Ahh, Lady Sina -- what a delightful treat to be a vanguard for the weekend!! The great Bill Ward came from an old school of drumming, heavily influenced by the greats of swing and blues -- although you certainly bring your own take to 'War Pigs', you gave a bit of tribute to Ward with the phrasing, hat, and crash work spread throughout your vibrant performance! It doesn't get much better than asking Andrei Cerbu to interpret the works of the classic rock guitarists, I'll tell what -- he again nailed it big-time! Tony Iommi, perhaps best known for his endless supply of incredible riffs, was a master at providing space in his phrasing for the chords to resonate while often having aspects of the melody be continued for that period subtly by bass or drums. Andrei once again shows us great restraint that creates a vibe that is quite a gifted homage to the classic Iommi version while still providing a taste of own incredible flourishes that blend in seamlessly. To me, one of the most difficult aspects of covering Sabbath is the challenge provided to the vocalist, indirectly, as it need not sound like Ozzy but it must support the over-all vibe of the song in a way that fits, and Johnny Kovacs delivered just such marvelous vocal...absolutely spot-on providing what this cover needed to take it to the next level! He always seems to take it further just when you think you have an idea how to 'pigeon-hole' his vocal stylings -- so very impressive! This magnificent virtual "trio" seems to be rounded out with a lady on bass we have seen from time to time, and I must say as an old pizzicato player myself, I love seeing a classic Fender Precision being played on a classic tune that I first learned on a Fender too. So glad you got "her" to play the bass part originated by the lyricist Terrance "Geezer" Butler created this song along with his band mates -- I really think "she" did a fine job supporting Andrei and Sina in this smashing cover! Last but certainly not least, the Kirchhoff 'Black Oyster' certainly looks incredible and has a great sound on classics like this -- I cannot wait to hear you play an original tune on this gorgeous kit...[maybe in the coming months, eh?] An A++ performance for sure. Vielen Dank!
