Women wearing a hijab can't do these things, sorry! When she was introduced to the public we saw this anti-systemic, anti-patriarchal, rebelious artist that many people admired like me. And then suddenly she converted to Islam, the religion that underestimates women as babies factory and excludes them from almost everything, letting us down. I know she suffered enough in her life so I hope she could find peace now, surrounded by NO religion at all!

I was OBSESSED with this song in high school when it came out in the late 80's. I would listen to it in the car when my mom (rip) drove me to school and I assumed she was not enjoying it until one day out of nowhere she busts out "I'D KILL A DRAGON FOR YOOOUUUU!!!!" and we both laughed until it hurt.

The "You should have left a light on" refers to her cruel mother, who locked Sinéad out of the house and made her sleep in the garden shed. Sinéad used to call up to her mother begging her to let her in, or at least leave the light on. But the cries were ignored and the light coldly switched off. RIP Sinéad. You were great. This is the first song video I chose to come to in honor of this proud Irish sonic force of Woman. I pray her soul is at peace with Shane and the pain inside her has ceased. That loss, that anger, that skewing of inner peace is something I wish I could strip her legacy of, but her pain birthed artist outputs that elevated her to be the exceptional artist she was. You are clueless. The christian crusades killed over half the worlds population. Since then wars in the name of christianity have killed many billions of people. Not to mention telling gullible humans that they are superior and have dominion over the earth and all animals, has resulted in the destruction of the earths forests and killed most all wildlife and made the oceans vast dead zones. Christianity is far and away the worst evil to ever befall the beautiful earth.

I do agree her music was more emotive in the beginning, really grabbed one's heartstrings, and I admire your view, but it did not stop at 'The Lion & The Cobra'....for me, Sinead’s music isn’t supposed to sound catchy. It isn’t necessarily about the instruments, but about the instruments following or guiding her voice [the main instrument], and her voice is one of the best in the industry! Her melodies aren’t defined in the realms of mastering techniques, compression, high-polished guitar solo’s, synth lines, etc.. Her music doesn’t follow the predictable rhythm of what sounds fresh to the ear. That’s what separates her from the streetwalkers of the music industry who’ll work with just about anybody to make a quick buck or grab the latest sound. The backbone and substance of O’Connor’s songs are rooted in authentic storytelling, they cannot be sold off or edited for commercial approval, producer favor, which is significant in her genuine the emotive melodies that align perfectly through lyrics and topics that either uplift you or aggravate you. Her story has to be felt with the listener or it won’t be understood. That’s honestly what music is supposed to be like. I know that for me, I can feel her sensitive soul shine, ignite and fill that euphonious framework with a zealot passion that refuses to be forgotten. To me that extends just mere talent.

Hi…I'm in Eastern Australia so the 26th of July 2024 is about 3 hours away - that is, one whole year since we lost this extraordinary soul and extraordinarily beautiful human being. For me personally and I'm pretty sure, for many of you…Sinead O'Connor was more than inspiration as an indescribably gifted musician…she was also inspiration as a strong person - who happened to be a woman - and a relentless leader who unashamedly and unapologetically stormed her way through her given territory, leaving a wake of truth…no matter how disruptive - it made it's mark and justifiably so. I was always in awe of this incredible lady, in so many ways. I remember watching a recent clip of her on stage with Van Morrison…and her humility was so sweet and so damn touching. 'The Lion & The Cobra' from 1987 is one of my top fav albums - yep vinyl - still have it in immaculate yet well played condition - because, I come from an era when playing records and treasuring 'things' was important. We looked after stuff and we enjoyed sharing our appreciation through actions. I'm not quite a boomer but I'm fkg glad I lived to experience those times. But the world is emptier since Sinead left but may she have found her peace. Thank you God. Good one 🎶👍

This is still the absolutely best song I’ve ever heard. I remember when I first, as a 13 year old boy, saw this video. I already loved the song. But the video was so shocking, so naked. At first I didn’t like it. It was too naked, crept too far under the skin. But fascination took over. If you ask me this is a true masterpiece, not only musically but also visually.

If we're going for top twenty I will also include the Rolling Stones - Can't You Hear Me Knocking; Elton John - Saturday is Alright for Fighting; Audioslave - I am the Highway; Def Leppard - Rock of Ages; Nirvana - Covering Leadbelly's In the Pines; Quiet Riot - Metal Health; Culture Club - White Boys Can't Control It; Michael Jackson - Billie Jean; Prince - Let's Go Crazy; Queen - Another One Bites the Dust.
