Lonely at night, an infantryman was on guard. The snow began to fall, it was Christmas night. He faithfully thinks of home, how may it be there. Oh father, mother, sister, and you my sweetheart. God bless you, dear ones, all of you, in the spirit I am with you. When lonely I fall here, suddenly he hears a soft noise. He grabs his rifle, with his hands so cold, Dear father, mother; sister, how much I would like to be with you now. There came shot and the guard, he soaked the snow with blood, He must taste the bitterest misery dear home I will never to see you again. A cross stands high on the mountain, where the patrol found him, God give you eternal peace, you died for your the fatherland.
