All honor to Dragoon Regiment 5 (Bayreuth Dragoner) for their brilliantly successful charge at Hohenfriedberg (5 June 1745).

without their break in the austrian lines the fights would have probably cost thousands of more Prussian deaths and a draw. a draw would have mean a lost for the Prussian army, who lost the initiative in their bohemian attacks and had to retreat to Hohenfriedberg in Silesia. it should be highlighted, that while Friedrich the great is sometimes called a great general, in many cases his attacks had a tendency to be stubborn, even if it would seem to be a lose for his side. in these times the deathrates in battles were higher than in Napoleonic era, so loosing your troops by an idiotic attack is not the best strategy. the defensive position was better and became the standard to an extent, that newer developments on cannons, Skirmisher-gun-fights and cavalry-inf attacks in the Napoleonic era were so suprising effective against the defensive style of expert Austrian generals. Similar problems in ww2 with a defensive doctrine being the main-reason for the success of the German attacks.

@apollomars1678
@apollomars1678 2 жыл бұрын
@@jensalbrecht3490 the main reason for an idiotic long civil-war in the USA were stubborn attacks of the union on better fortified positions of the confederate. similar attacks happen in the 7year-war, that lead to such a long war, that killed a lot of Prussian soldiers. the next war of Prussia was the 1792, around 30 years later, because this war emptied Prussian capacity to fight a war. the next Prussian war was the first coalition war against France and the Prussian army lost in this war, at the same time it was the first big victory of the revolutionary French army in the Battle of Valmy. The 7 year war of Friedrich II. was the end of Prussian dominance in that century, until it got reborn in the Wars of Unification.

Bismarck had always maintained that good relations between Germany and Russia were key to security for Germany.and his system of alliances were built on good relations between two great powers. Unfortunately those that came after him cast envious eyes on the Ukraine and the wealth of Russia and wanted to resurrect the old German Drang das Osten. The guttersnipe Hitler wanted all of Russia for German colonists....and he needed the wealth and resources of the country for Germany.... Just look where that idea got him.. it was a catastrophe for Germany and the German people.

@@sansoucci5394 You're over simplifying things, the filthy communists couldn't be trusted and that was THE reason why Russia had to be conquered. The bolsheviks hated NS-Germany as much as they hated their Tsar and the "Whites" but they were scared. They failed to defeat the Finnish forces so imagine what would have happend if they tried to attack the Germans and risk getting flanked by the Finnish forces? It's very unfortunate that the Fins refused to engage in the Battle of Stalingrad, those back stabbing rats recieved so much help and for what? At the same time, no one could have predicted that early and perticularly harsh winter...
