Just when I thought this video could use some editing to make it move a bit faster, you said: 'There's no problem with me taking my time.' As if you read my mind. And right you are.

Haha. I won't tell. Just bought one of these machines for my daughter. Hope she likes it as much as I do. I don't sew, but I love these old machines.

The "W" as in 319W indicates the machine was built in the Singer factory in Bridgeport, Connecticut, USA. Apparently, Singer purchased the factory from Wheeler & Wilson in 1905. Wheeler & Wilson left in the late 1880's. One of them retired and the other one died. The "A" in the Singer 301A indicates the machine was built in Anderson, South Carolina. A "J" indicates, as in my Singer 500J, that the machine was built in Montreal. Singer moved the Montreal plant to St. Johns, Quebec in 1901. The Kilbowie machines were shipped by boat from Scotland to Quebec; and Quebec is where the electric motors and portable cases or desk was installed. Those cases & electric motors were made in Canada; and it states that on the motor data label. St. Johns, Quebec was name changed many decades ago to St. Jean-sur-Richelieu. Singer never did have a plant in St. John, New Brunswick or St John's, Newfoundland!

Hi, great video ,thanks for it and share with us. I wonder if i need special needles and where i can buy it. I wonder too if you jave some video to fix the problem about why the needle goes broken because when i get it dowm it the needle rubs against the edge of the bobin case. I can send a video so you can undertand better was it the problem with my sewing machine. Thanks in advance .

Hi Estella! The timing has to be set between the needle and hook. You have to make sure you have the correct needle. If the needle is the correct one then it is a timing issue.

Hi Kerry! How are you? You’re great! So I went to manualslib.com and was looking in the Adjusters Manual for the Singer 306. I was able to view it online, it’s free. On about page 32 or 33 there is a photo looking towards what I think we are after. Another channel is Eric Neek. He has a few 306 videos. Anyway, I am going to get my 306 from my locker and shine a light in there and film it. It will become part of a 306 video! I was hoping for more info. There is a lot of interest in 306’s! 👍 They are a bit of a challenge to restore. Accessing this stitch lever is work! lol! Go figure! Later! 🙏

Thanks so much for this super walkthrough! Any advice on a stuck stitch-length lever? The lever itself moves fine (I took out the set screw and stud and temporarily disconnected it from the connecting link to be sure), but the link and feed rock shaft don't move at all. The lever (when connected) is stuck, stuck stuck. I'm not even sure what is supposed to move, or how. Tons of oil, but nothing's budging! Do you have any advice?
@JebbAdams
@JebbAdams 11 ай бұрын
Try heating it with a hair dryer or heat gun. Use oven mitts or gloves to protect your hands. Heat it near the points you mentioned; feed rock shaft, etc. Heat it for 4 or 5 minutes. It will seem like an eternity. Then see if there is any release. If not you have to decide if you can tap it smartly with a small hammer or other tool. If heat and pressure don't work get the pliers and try to release it. How does that sound to you? You can do it! Have fun! Thank you for coming here, I do appreciate your time! Cheers!

That sounds smart! I will do that. I'm honestly just not sure which part is actually supposed to move! There must be something that pivots when the lever goes up and down... Do you know where the link/rod pivot is supposed to happen? Thanks again! ❤

Merry, thanks! Now before I get started; check out Sewing Machine Rehab, Jenn is an expert restorer and has done a number of stitch levers in her vids. Also check out Andy Tube! There, that’s fine.

Yes Kerry, but it is awkward to get to. The top cover has to be removed, and more than likely the front plastic cover too. The pivot point is in there.There is a screw on the stitch lever just inside the machine. That screw will release the lever from the internal. That is an area of the machine errr varnish and rust hide. Stitch levers are a challenge. I do not have the experience. But I will look at this 338 and check it out. I just took apart a 348 so I will inspect that tomorrow.. I am a beginner/ intermediate restorer. I restore parts of the sewing machine, but very rarely an entire restoration. I am still working towards that. I will be doing annoying video on the 338 soon. Also the hand wheel replacement. I did the 338 hand wheel removal 2 videos ago. But the 348 was never cleaned until tomorrow! I will be oiling where the do so I will figure it out hopefully. So I will message you in about 24 hours and let you know what the results of my inspection is. The video will be posted in about 3 days (hopefully m). This research project will do us both good I hope Kerry! 👍🙏

The zigzag disc is unnecessary on the 319. It has an inbuilt zigzag cam activated by one of the "piano-key" levers. 🙂

The colour is called 'celery-green' and yours looks pretty. And those black discs are called 'cams' and you always need the zigzag-one on its axe.

Is Singer 319K Machine Internal Belt Durable? If it breaks, it's still made for replacement. Because this belt seems to be delicate and not very durable. Are bobbin case and bobbins easy to find for replacement yet?
@JebbAdams

Very durable! Central Michigan Sewing Supply sells them for $80.00. An original vintage costs $52.00. Bobbins and needles, very available also! Enjoy!
