I didn't expect it either but am not ashamed to say I was a fan of the 5th dimension in 1969. I way 14 Their band was something between rock and soul. And of course it was the wrecking crew with the accompaniment. I believe them when they say that people that see their shows jump up and dance to the song even now. If I could look so healthy and energetic when I'm their ages...

I was a 10 year old boy with an unusual ability to play songs on the flute by ear. It made me the main soloist in schools for years. I performed an instrumental version of this song that left adults in awe. This song meant the world to me in 1969/1970 and it still does. When I was in rock bands later in the 80s and 90s, the Fifth Dimension’s material and their sensibilities still informed my style of singing and performing. Alongside early original alternative rock from that era. My contemporaries never quite understood my affinity for this and the American Songbook. It’s one of those classics I always enjoy hearing. Reminds me of my childhood and a time when I stood out as a talented and accomplished performer for my age.

I have a similar lostnwallet story. My dad left his wallet in Sun Studios in Memphis while on vacation. He didn't realize that he had last it until hundreds of miles later while driving home. He thought Sun Studios was the last place he had it on his person, so my younger sister called Sun Studios up and asked if anyone had found it. Much to everyone's surprise, someone turned it in to the managers at Sun Studios and he got his wallet back! As for "Age of Aquarius/Let the Sunshine In", I was very young when the song was released, but I still remember hearing it. The song was very well produced and had such a clear sound to it. It sounds "dated", though I don't mean that in a bad way. You can just tell the time period when it was written. It sounds better than a lot of music today and vocals are so much more amazing than today.

Up, Up and Away especially but also Aquarius are immediate time-travel triggers for me. Whenever I hear Up, Up and Away I’m immediately transported back to the late 1960s, sitting at the little linoleum table with the metal rim in our apartment as my mom made cream of wheat. I can feel the cold vinyl of the chair and see my little brother in his high chair. My dad, going off to his construction job saying, “See ya later alligator,” and my mom replying, “After while crocodile,” and me running to the window, my mom asking, “What are you doing?” And I said, “I want to see that crocodile drive dad’s truck!” Truly, the music of the 5th Dimension is a kind of magic.

I still get the same feeling I did then, so tje sheer power of it remains! I was literally in tears of both joy and sadness here-joy seeing these 2 beautiful people still looking awesome and in good health, and sad because now that my mom, who was EVERYTHING to me is gone for just about 2 years now. I will never be “right” again. This song brings me joy and sadness but it is part of my very being! Images come right back and I re visit those days in my memory! God, I was listening to this tune before I was in kindergarten! These 2 beautiful people are national treasures and so is the music! It will ALWAYS be played and loved! What is not to love here! And Happy New Year all, and please pray for peace on earth becoming a reality very soon! The hippies had it nut-on about peace and love!! Give them credit! 😋👍🏻🤘🤘

Great interview. Of course I had the Hair album but you made me remember what I was doing when I heard the Fifth Dimension version of Aquarius and Let the Sunshine In.

Though I'm mostly into Jazz & "Classical" music (don't get me started on the misunderstandings about Baroque, classical, romantic, etc. eras), I have always loved The Fifth Dimension... They were part of the soundtrack of my life. To see them so happy and animated, their talent and work still so venerated today... Well, just good on them all! They more than deserve it!

Another terrific video. I remember when the song came out, and the combination of Aquarius and Let the Sun Shine In was phenomenal. Great to see the interview with Billy David Jr and Marilyn McCoo-- their story is fascinating.

What an amazing story. I recently dropped my wallet, with a lot of cash, in a parking lot and didn’t know it. Next morning I got an email from the store that some kind soul had turned it in. Didn’t get a hit single from it, but it restored my faith in humanity.😊

One of my favorite parts of this magical tune is the bridge, where those lines of hope and prophecy bounce from the ladies to the men, then they are all once again unified for the harmony singing "Aquarius". Lyrically painting a landscape of utopia, including "...and the mind's true liberation". Gives me goosebumps just typing this. Nothing quite like it.

When this song came out, I was a young (very young) radio DJ for a small station on the North Shore of the province of Québec. It is one of the songs that I played the most. I just couldn't get tired of it. I also had fun playing Wedding Bell Blues. Their sound was just different, so fresh.

My older sister was a big fan of 5th Dimension, and that's where I learned of it. I've been digging it ever since. Great Great song😊

When I restarted my album collection, The 5th Dimension was one of the absolute "must haves" on my list. "Up, Up, and Away" and the "Age of Aquarius/Let The Sunshine In" were so monumentally HUGE to me! We had the moon landing going on, the Vietnam conflict was raging, and we were coming out of the '60s. It was a new day and age. Everything was just so 'new', 'fresh', and 'Wow!' to me and "Age Of Aquarius" just hit 'the spot'. Sly & The Family Stone were on that "must have" list as well. "Everyday People" I never knew (or realized) that Marilyn McCoo & Billy Davis Jr. were in The 5th Dimension together because years later, I became a fan of theirs, on their own, and they also became "must haves" to my collection as well. Great, great, and awesome music we had back then! Thank you, Adam, for covering Marilyn, Billy, and these songs. God bless and happy new year brother.
