This is my favorite version of this classic wonderful song by any performer. The passion and emotion that John expresses, and the power is truly extraordinary. John can sing anything and do it to perfection. This song has a special meaning to me with the loss of my little brother many years ago but I still watch and listen to this version for its brilliants and clarity and for the emotion John puts into it really brings it to life. Yes this was Christmas Eve at the annual Melbourne carols by candlelight.

Almost every town and City in Australia has Carols By Candlelight in December because it is Summer here. So my children were brought up with a candle in a cup. This one in Melbourne is on Christmas Eve and lots of famous people give their time. John sang two songs at this one with 3 of his backup singers. It is an Australian Christmas tradition and John always gave back for this and any charity concert that needed him. Thank you.

Love this . “Carols by Candlelight” Christmas Eve outside concert annually in Melbourne ❤❤raises money for Vision Australia ( services for vision impaired ). Another understated performance yet 🎉

It is a lovely Christmas tradition to go the Sydney Myer Music Bowl with the family and sit on the grass for the Carols performed by artists like John. I remember when the Seekers came home from overseas in the late 60’s and there were 200K people at their concert at the Bowl.

It is beautiful, powerful and respectful. The other performers are wonderful as well. Start with John performing Gethsamane final night Sydney 1992. Its fantastic and it just shows the versatility of his voice - truly amazing and touches your soul. ❤😂

I’m a massive fan of John but you should also check out this same song sung by Jimmy Barnes and his son David Campbell performed at carols by candlelight, an Australian Christmas concert. I think it’s a very nice rendition and in my opinion better.

Unbelievable......Wait till you hear him do Black Dog by Led Zep. the band is super tight too. BTW it was their warm up / mic check as recorded by a sound engineer (no video of this as it wasn't done live)
