Lots of people who were too cool for a love song, or who wanted to be edgier liked to badmouth Barry Manilow, but he was one of the biggest stars of the '70s, so I'm not sure you can really say he was underrated.

Barry Manilow was, and still is, a huge star who's career skyrocketed when he dropped this song on the airwaves. He had so many hit songs and albums and stage shows from Vegas to Broadway to London. He could easily put together an hour or more just singing a few lines from his hits. My biggest disappointment from the 70's was that he and Karen Carpenter never got to sing together. If you get a chance give a listen to his "I Can't Smile Without You". Something upbeat and another smash hit!

What a pleasant surprise! Dani, I was hoping you'd eventually do reactions to Barry Manilow's music. He is one of the all-time greats. In the 1970s, he was the king of the romantic ballads. He really specialized singing love songs. Mandy was his first hit song that went to #1 on the pop charts in 1975. I hope you continue to try more of his catalog of great songs. For some recommendations, you would love "Weekend In New England", "Can't Smile Without You", "Even Now' ,"Looks Like We Made It", "I Write The Songs", Daybreak", "Somewhere In The Night" and so much more.

@prob68202 жыл бұрын
"Brandy", later called "Mandy", is a song written by Scott English and Richard Kerr. It was originally recorded by English in 1971 and reached the top 20 of the UK Singles Chart. The suggestion that Scott English wrote the song about a favorite dog is apparently false. English later said that a reporter called him early one morning asking who "Brandy" was, and an irritated English made up the dog story to get the reporter off his back. In 1974, Barry Manilow recorded the song under the title name of "Mandy". The song was Manilow's first #1 hit on the Billboard Hot 100 and Easy Listening charts, and his first gold single. Barry is a musical genius, he has been named King of the Easy Listening charts with 50 top 40 hits on the EL charts. You should listen to other Manilow songs, try his live performances on KZbin IMO better than his studio recordings expresses such passion. He didn’t write this song just arranged it! He is an awesome arranger, composer, producer, singer entertainer. Some background he was Bette Midler’s MD actually arranging her early hits & producing her first 2 albums . He is the reason she is a star. He also started writing commercial jingles - perhaps you’ve heard one or two; Like a Good Neighbor State Farm is There; Stuck on Band-Aid. Check out background info on him you will be amazed!!!

Now that everyone knows Barry is homosexual it is much easier to believe the rumor that the original title was RANDY. Still, for some of use who heard this song when it first came out we picked up his lines 'the face of a man, through a window' but more to the point 'You gave without taking', that is a MALE trait NOT what women do at all. They come and they TAKE and they TAKE and EVEN if you GIVE them EVERYTHING you have, they will still turn to someone else and TAKE from them.

Manilow's records are a master class in production techniques as well. This song was actually originally written as Oh Brandy. Yes hello it's me again hey there 11:27 p.m. yes Mandy is a song from the 70s and hate it definitely is a good singer I'll just throw one at you I can't smile without you song that Barry Manilow place that means you too sweetheart okay let's get into something else here yeah I'm in my kid Mandy that sounded a lot to do with it it's nice song that's a lot nicer when you're drinking and you're in this kind of a different mood yes I let my daughter go cuz she's doing okay has a great job helping people has a husband that works in the ER at the hospital a great husband so I got lucky I can't really complain it's not like she came home with some biker haha and I have a nice house with those round polos at Elvis Presley has in front of their house so that's super great do not have to worry about cops knocking on my door because trouble they're doing great when she finished school had to go to high school that she can go to anyone that she wanted to Shannon going to Waterloo entrana University and looks like she made it that's part of another song by Barry Manilow Italian is pretty cool you only about two tickets to go to the university for one day walk down the aisle and all that with the paper to hand eye or something like that and the way they got it shaped your way high and they are looking down on me and my wife at that time it really made you feel special proud of her and proud of my son to it has a very nice job drives a nice brand new vehicle cats free gas free insurance a lot more I do nothing for a off and on all day Stevenson sleep too so think I got up around 6:37 p.m. I just had a dinner a late dinner vegetables potatoes chicken and some fruit and yeah sure 200% right about cutting back to sugar they do not want to get diabetes because if you do make you can end up cutting off your toe and your other toes and your feet I guess it's kind of like cancer and moves up into your legs they cut your legs off next month you know you're in a wheelchair you could even die of a heart attack have your blood sugar checked every 6 months but if I were you I try to check yourself every 3 months even if it's just one of those metres you can buy one for around a hundred bucks then you have to buy the strips and maybe John diabetes you have to buy the strips $100 a month everyone thing goes tonight I got to start driving yourself with the needle in the legs and stomach and everywhere else so you're doing the smart thing by cutting up sugar that's what I'm doing right now is cutting the sugar as for my chicken I wrap it in tin foil stick it in the oven for so long take it out no shake and bake cut up the pops cuz of the sugar and stuff just been drinking water water can't help you and I don't think it has any sugar in it so okay to treat yourself once in awhile but even beer has sugar and definitely stay away from the cigarettes any kind of smoke cuz it's just smoke one in your mouth do your lungs and all that next you know you have lung cancer looking for a transplant or something and that's if you're lucky cuz some people don't get their longest done then they just pass not a good thing to go through with the family around you watching you pass away so stick up those good habits so I'm glad you brought that Sugar out because I told you if he thinks attitude you're going to have that are good for you try to stay away from the dog food only as a treat I know you're like your M&Ms but I guess you could say it's kind of like New Years are working on your body to feel better and be better and think better well you came into my life cuz I stumbled upon you on this phone and I thought well I'll help this girl out God I did not know your popular singer and all that stuff he do but every thumbs-up helps you for what you're trying to do and you're smart to stay in school to you get to where you want to get to because make you smarter and make your parents proud of you that's one thing I wanted you to play and you played it but I don't think I told you that song I think it was something like that can't smile without you or something like that it goes by Barry Manilow so God bless you and your family just remember blood-is-thicker-than-water stick together because net don't let money divided the family try to enjoy each day or week whatever luggage your loss the way the world is that we're living in your friend Carl Supertramp Garnett hide in your shell logical Breakfast in America and more still waiting for one of those songs you'll get to it when you get to it but if you want to hear it on the side that's cool too nice to hear when you're driving along and it just pops out of the radio comes on I guess you can say I grew up on Supertramp first album was crime of the century I was living upstairs and some other guy was living downstairs there's a bunch of us the guy kept playing crime essentially over and over and all the other songs to go with it we got nerve damage because I hated it but after two days it kicked into my system and I've been nesting ever since I don't know maybe around 1975 I went to a concert at Maple Leaf Gardens I felt like I was in the record was really nice but that's my age being younger I was a troubled kid I had a joint memo some pills down my throat and I thought I was inside the record at Maple Leaf Gardens down at Yonge Street and College Street but those were the days but they helped me get through life I played them here all the time the kids always heard them I played the album school a lot logical and basically all of them I think maybe that helped me push themselves towards School University and college and all that so that was a good thing okay I'll let you go now so take care of yourself and your health and get that Supertramp into your life and say hi to the family Carl
