This is a cover of one of the most popular songs of the 1960's. It was written by legendary songwriter Paul Simon and performed by Simon & Garfunkel.

In interviews after this performance he revealed that he was sick and Conan’s people wanted to reschedule but he said no, that he could do it. They gave him a stool to sit on. You also owe it to yourself to check out their official video version of Sound of Silence. This heavy metal band has been around since the mid 90s, with their big hit Down With the Sickness. Sound of Silence and Hold on to Memories showcase lead singer David Draiman’s vocal talent. He is a trained Cantor.

Disturbed is a metal band, for sure. This song is not their normal sound, and it is a cover of a 60 year old song by Simon and Garfunkel. Paul Simon, who wote this song, loves this cover. David Draiman has a very powerful and unique voice, and was classically trained. Your reaction was amazing! This song gives me chills!

I listened to Simon and Garfunkel in the 60’s-70’s But guess I never really heard the words and meanings. And then a few years ago I saw the video by Disturbed, and finally, finally let the words permeate into my mind. And I cried. I cried for all the things Simon and Garfunkel saw that I didn’t. I cried that I finally saw them through Disturbed’s version. And I cried because his voice is so deep and angry and beautiful.

.....I think that was one of the most genuine reactions I've ever seen. You couldn't see yourself, but I think I saw about 7 or eight different emotions cross your face. There are many covers of Sound of Silence, but these three stand out in particular. 1.) Of COURSE Disturbed with David Draiman voice's incredible raw power and marathon feels good lord....This is always going to be my favorite one. 2.) Peyton Parrish's has subtle heavy metal hints. Check him out if you get the chance. He does EVERYTHING from screamo to Disney songs...and he puts 110 percent of his effort in every single one. Most notable to me is his knockout duet with Miracle of Sound's lead, "Valhalla Calling" Holy jumping tree frogs. 3.) Geoff Castelucci from the acapella group Voiceplay and if you haven't come across them yet, now would be the perfect time to go hunting, because oh boy oh boy. (Start with the Oogie Boogie song. Holy jumping tree frogs...) Honestly though, it's only in my top 3 because it's Castelucci singing it. (He has his own channel btw and....that's all I'm going to tell you. Start with "16 Tons" ) His interpretation is wonderful in its own way, but it doesn't draw on the energy the other two had. That's just my own opinion though.

The original version is a a warning 60 years ago to everyone to talk to each other, to listen to each other or else things are going to crash, life is going to get so much, which it has. Disturbed version of Sound of Silence is a response to to us not heeding the original songs warning of how bad thing will become if we do not listen to each other and/or speak to each other. That's why things have become so bad these days, the hate and the violence towards each other, the decimation and destruction of the world we live in, all because we can't speak out at what's happening and we can't listen to what is being said...

I keep hearing that explanation via these reaction shows. But honestly, that's not what the song was about originally. Completely different meaning, as to what the song was written about

100% bullshit. He was on top of his game, the studio version pales in comparison. Come correct next time

David Draiman (the singer) had piercings under his bottom lip.....he has since removed them, i believe..He said he was getting too old for that type of thing.......LOL
