He was sick when he did this performance which makes it even more impressive. Apparently he had a fever of 102! He not only has this wonderful singing voice (he was trained as a Cantor in the Jewish church )but also a lovely speaking voice. He's very eloquent. He could read the phone book and I'd be in awe! A truly compassionate, thoughtful, genuine man. I want to be his friend 😊

My favorite is watching people who don't know anything about Disturbed, or about David except that they are a metal band, and break down his vocal range. I love being a sickened and knowing his history and his training and everything that he's capable of, and listening to people who don't know and them being shocked that he can actually sing, and sing technically amazingly. I am not a metal head, it has never been my type of music, but Disturbed is amazing, and I could listen to all of their music all day long. I have not heard a singer quite like David, and I love that even in their albums his range is evident. I love this.

I love what David and the band have done with this song. They moved it from a song you've heard to something you're forced to listen to. Disturbed is a heavy metal band. All I knew about them was that there was lots of screaming. This song, in all of the video versions, has been viewed more than a billion times. It is not like anything you'd expect from them. My first listen was a military tribute video. The second was the official video and, and finally, the Conan show. I like the Conan version the best. David was actually sick during this performance and still nailed it. Something I can recommend. BESTE ZANGERS, Floor Jansen & Henk Poort, Phantom of the Opera. Nice duet.

I really enjoyed your reaction - thanks. You'll get comments repeating the internet myth that he was "sick" during this performance, like "A fever of 105! Deathly ill and had to be rushed to the hospital! Had to sit down because he was so sick" (he always sat for this song) and so on. Actually all he had was a lesion on one of his vocal cords, which required him to sing slightly differently. He says this in his interview with Elizabeth Zharoff on her channel "The Charismatic Voice."

If you want to have a good cry, listen to him singing Disturb's song "Hang On to Memories." With only these two songs, I'd never have guessed that he's a heavy metal singer. I've only learned about them in the last week (I'm 76 and a classical music lover.) and have listened to a wide variety of their music in the last few days. There are at least half a dozen of their songs that I really love. Color me surprised!! David was trained as a young man as a Jewish cantor (I don't remember the Hebrew word) and also had classical training. In this Conan performance he was sitting because he had a high fever and was very ill and his mates were afraid he might pass out if he stood too long.

Down With the Sickness is one of Disturbed's biggest hits. It would also qualify for the aforementioned shocker if you listen to the full version. I love live performances as well, but in this case he was sick....and the video is just perfect for the song. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND you watch it in comparison! David Draiman is classically trained, & was a Cantor. He seriously considered becoming a Rabbi....so if he had, we wouldn't have the opportunity to hear his phenomenal voice! My daughter just saw them about a month ago, & it was awesome. He has had trouble with his voice off & on for a while now, but the night Kristen saw them his voice was in fine shape.

David Draiman...amazing range and control...a powerful yet soulful voice that can go from warm baritone to angelic tenor, from clear as a crystal to rasp/distortion/vocal fry and back on a dime, which is incredibly difficult to do . He is so unique as he actually puts vibrato on his distortion!....also VERY difficult to do...one of the best male vocalists on the planet imho.

This is a song (as you may already know) that was written by Paul Simon in 1964. I remember hearing it, as a kid, and it was NOT my favorite Simon and Garfunkel song until last week when I heard Disturbed's rendition. When you hear David Draiman sing it you feel it rather than hear it. Many great metal songs are like that. For me, I like the video more, because the imagery is gorgeous. And it IMHO a uniquely NYC song, If you have ever lived or worked in Manhattan, it is a NOISY place where people just pass you by. Always in a rush!!! We have to remember the decade when it was written. Now the song has a different meaning. David was a Cantor when he was young. What a voice!!!

A couple of fun facts: He sung this deeply sick, to the point he apparently barely remembers the performance. Also while he is a metal singer by default, he was trained in operatic singing as a boy which you can hear from his clear notes. That ability of his to drop into and out of vocal fry on a dime... So impressive.

He is a metal singer but he is classically trained (I think he was a Jewish Cantor if I remember correctly). If you want to hear one of their metal songs try "down with the sickness". He can do some really cool things with his voice. He has a very unique voice. You are right that he typically sings with grit and he held back for most of the sound of silence and song it clear until near the end, which I think was a brilliant choice. Adding the grit as the song built just gave it that much mroe power.
