I have this machine and was quoted $150 to service 😭… the tech called it a disposable machine (which mostly sat in the closet since purchase years ago). Thank you for this video - followed your oiling steps to see if it jams less (& makes less noise) 🤞
@randyyoursewingmachineman995425 күн бұрын
@@nancyleedoi5317 That price is a bit much. I think you can handle it nicely on your own. If something causes a challenge let me know and maybe I can help. That tech was maybe trying to steer you towards a new machine purchase. It’s a common ploy. I have videos on jamming and the solutions. Cleaning and oiling the shuttle area will probably quiet things down a bit. Good luck 🍀 and thanks for watching.

I bought a sewing stool with the removable lid. Inside the stool, there is a Singer #89480-001 controller (Great Britain),, and the cording is Aqua Blue in color. The plug for the machine is shield shaped, instead of D shape. What kind of Singer would have used this corded controller?
@randyyoursewingmachineman99549 ай бұрын
Most likely it fits a 534 Stylist or a similar model. The machine is the same color as the wiring and control, a pretty Aqua Blue.

i have this machine and it jams so much i’m probably gonna get another one and give this one to my sister. what machine would you recommend for quilting?
@randyyoursewingmachineman99547 ай бұрын
Why don’t you like your sister? L. O. L. Watch my videos for machines that I recommend. They will be classic Kenmore’s and Singers mostly.

Great video Randy. I wouldn't own one of these. I'm a Kenmore 158 series lover (have 5 of them).

That makes two of us. I have around 20 of them, but 19 are for sale and the 20th one is my wife’s. I better not sell that one, I might get in trouble. 😂😎👍🏼

Can you please tell me why a sewing machine makes a knocking sound 😢
@randyyoursewingmachineman99549 ай бұрын
Depending on which machine it is, it could be as simple as debris in the shuttle area, or a basic lack of lubrication. Other than that, there are spacers and shims that can fracture and cause knocking, as well as set screws loosening and causing a knock. The former are common, the latter are rare. 😎👍🏼

I don't like the term throwaway yeah, there are some things that are thrown away. They're meant to be thrown away like razor blades at one time. There were things that would try to sharpen them but they were really throwaway they just couldn't get the same edge. There's other things that were thrown away. They were meant for a single use and then you threw them away or meant for a few uses and threw them away. Paint brushes would not last forever. There were some things that were single use for certain things. Then you threw away whatever was left. If this sewing machine is $130 and getting it serviced for 90 bucks, that's not really a throwaway you're going to spend more than $130. You got tax and you got gas to go get it. You got time. If it's fixable and serviceable and usable, get it working. You're going to get your money back if you're using it it's not a waste of money to get something serviced. I have fans that need the bearings oiled every once in awhile they're considered throwaway there's nothing wrong with them. They work just have to oil the bearings and the motor every once in awhile. Just otherwise they lock up something I know how to do and I take care of it. Fans last me many times longer but I don't believe in throwing something away just because it quits. If it's fixable, fix it

These Sino Singers, like the 'Simple' model always sell quickly at the thrift stores. I think its because it the modern look, they are lightweight to carry and place in the trunk of the Kia ( the official car of the 'Thrifter) In my brief foray in vintage sewing machine collecting, its been my experience that the nicer vtg machines are in cabinets,,,which arent Kia friendly. My problem with cabinet machines are/is they take up space. I really only want the machine, you know. I have begun a new practice of removing the machine from the cabinet (at the store😊) and leaving the cabinet behind,, so they can resell it. Its a Win Win I think. I've Noticed the Singer cabinets have been a bit nicer than the Kenmore cabinets (on avg.). Singers cabs have better veneer, round spindle legs, just more mill work in them as opposed to the Kenmore of the same timeframe. There seems to be a market for used cabinets, because when I returned to the store I ditched that Singer 360 cabinet at, the cabinet was gone. What Say You, Mr.Randy?

When I worked for the Singer company in the 70’s, they had an entire line of upscale furniture that they manufactured and sold under the Singer name. Their cabinets were always fine pieces of furniture, and pricey also. I don’t have room for cabinets either, I remove the machine and leave the cabinets behind. I’ve walked away from some beautiful cabinets as a result. The seller’s don’t mind, they make another sale with the cabinet and all is well.

Good description of the importance of lubrication. This applies to all machines. Now to think about it, the same applies to people too. My next consultation hopefully will help a lady who is going through a lot of pain waiting for a "replacement hip." I don't have a KZbin channel, but also like to help people going through challenges. Maybe that's why I like your channel. ☕🙂👍

We are living in a throw away society. Would you pay someone to repair a $300.00 flat screen TV? I wouldn't, and I wouldn't spend thousands on a new one.
@randyyoursewingmachineman99549 ай бұрын
You’re in the majority on that one, I think. The worst of it for a lot of folks, is that even if you did want something that’s high tech to be repaired, quite often the technician can’t get the parts or doesn’t fix it properly. Once you do pay the big bucks for a repair, and your high-tech item is still on the fritz, you’re cured from ever trusting a technician again. TO THE LANDFILL JEEVES!
