I had the pleasure of owning one of the early 911's (1966). Took delivery in December of 1965. I proceeded to "tweek" it and the result was a labor of love. I first saw this vehicle in the Porsche dealership in Innsbruck Austria when I worked at the Winter Olympics in the late fall of 1963 when it was called the 901. It was love at first sight. Singer has indeed created a masterpiece that any 911 fan will enjoy. Now to win the lottery (grin)

What made the early 911's so much fun to modify is that there were so many factory parts available for them, like 27 mm sway bar kits that made them handle like a go-cart in turns, and S heaterboxes and R mufflers (which were hollowed out and tuned) that gave them that distinctive 911 sound. I had a California Highway Patrol officer chase me for over 30 miles just to see what was in it.

I don't usually like anyone messing with the old Porsche models. Cost a fortune to restore back to original spec. I feel we are guardians if our 911's until the next owner BUT this car blows me away. I have NEVER ached to own a car so much. It took me 27 years to afford my 996 TT. I won't be able to have one of these though I can dream. Stunning. I need to win the lotto

I absolutely adore these cars but I could acheive similar with a 964 and a fraction of that money. There is a Pagani level of personalised engineering here and that comes with a cost but $300k is still a great deal. There are other companies that do this every bit as well as Singer, it's just that Singer have got the high level exposure.

+jason irrera Hey Jay! I sure do remember that! We just filmed the Boxster Spyder and, man, that is a car that deserves a manual. I'll drive your 911 by Singer, but I don't watch hockey! Ha ha! Seriously, a 911 restored by Singer is pretty much automotive perfection from my perspective. My mate Dickie Meaden sums it up nicely in his recent vid for Evo and says that if he had to drive one car for the rest of his life, it'd be a Porsche by Singer. My sentiments exactly. Take care, Jay!

Things I would change or ask for if I could afford the Singer treatment. I want the original gas and oil caps locations. I personally don't like it sticking up in the middle of the hood. I want a sunroof. Even if it means the car may gain 40 to 50 lbs. I know at Singer they remove the roof and replace it with a carbon fiber one to save weight. I want AC and I want mesh style 3 piece wheels. Sorry not a fan of the Fukes. I don't think there ugly they are a nice looking wheel. Just not on my car. I like the original headlights. The ones with projector bulb that he uses doesn't work. I like the refracted lense look better. "Although they may not work as good". Last thing and this is it. I want a classic Porsche 356 wooden 3 spoke steering wheel. But everything else he does I like. Here is a $350,000 check. Make it happen!
@BrianMakse10 жыл бұрын
Give Singer a call! It's clear you know the quality of their work. I drove this car over a year ago, but it's the one I dream about every day.
@1137rr10 жыл бұрын
Brian Makse That must of been awesome to drive that car! What is it? 350HP that's damn good for a 6 cylinder 2 valve engine. I have a 1987 Porsche 911 with the factory M491 option. I brought it 10 yrs ago I couldn't afford to buy it today. Its not a Singer. But I can't afford there treatment. My car is stock when it comes to the engine and transmission. And it runs pretty good with only 210HP. It would be incredible with another 140HP. I love Porsche! When I was a kid. "Poor Kid mind you!" A neighbor used to drive by my house with a 911 it was red and I think it was a 1970 model year. It was a hard top with a sunroof. And he'd drive by the house with it in first gear at about 4 to 5k RPM. It sounded so good! And I loved the way the car looked. He ended up selling it and getting a Mercedes. I asked him "Why did you sell the Porsche?" he said he was getting old and was tired of shifting the trans. Of course this was back in the early 80's. Wasn't much interest in the early cars like it is today.
@BrianMakse10 жыл бұрын
1137rr Brilliant car you have there. If I recall correctly, the car I drove was 360 hp. Truly the best car I've ever driven. Very much the ultimate air cooled 911, perhaps the ultimate 911.

***** Luggage space is pretty much irrelevant in that car. You know what you're getting into if you install the fuel cell. Still, I could live with a 911 by Singer on a daily basis.

The larger fuel cell when filled improved the balance but also massively improves safety in a potential crash. I use one in my race car for good reason.

This is an exemplar of pandering to the "rich" market. Original (and funky) Porsches can be brought up to modern specs quite handily in one's garage. Carbon fibre? For what? Give me a break. I bought a bathtube 356C back in the day for $3K , gave it a lube, changed spark plugs and a proper wax job and off we went. Fast, fun and cheap for local blasting. I also owned a couple of lightly modified '75/'77 Datsun 280Zs. Between the two marques, the Datsun was the better car for my purposes, which was long range cruising (Charleston, SC to Chicago, for instance). No oil consumption, 21 mpg at 80+ mph cruising and with proper swaybars, Konis, and Michelin XWS, could cut the crap out any corner you like. Further, with a 35 dollar substitute chip, I could pull 6500 rpm (~145 mph) in fifth all day long. Those cars have big radiators. Singers are for dentists with more money than brains.

+TheRevolutionnow watch Chris Harris's review. then you'll understand why it costs that much. It is actually pretty cheap considering the quality of parts that go into one of these Porsches. Its a racing car. With race car quality components and a full custom carbon-fiber bodywork. Custom forged wheels, custom race car grade wiring etc.etc.etc.
