I totally agree. doing his warm ups have increased my range beyond my normal and my voice is cleaner and my breadth support has improved tremendously. I did not realise that until my vocal teacher made that comment😇
@joebloggs6194 жыл бұрын
Don't worry. He will get them. He's getting the serious singers, not just the ones looking to have fun. That is why. But when others find out that these exercises are the real deal for improving, they will subscribe.
@joebloggs6194 жыл бұрын
It's because Jeff teaches proper technique and that gets results but it takes work, which most are not prepared to put in. There is this misconception that great singers are born that way. They just open their mouth and sing. Some can do this naturally with modernsinging styles which require limited range and an almostspeaking style, with the occasional grain, groan, moan or shout,howl etcfor interest. But you can't vet away thith just that for serious singing, though Ilike and appreciate most styles, exceptperhaps rap, which is OK for story telling etc but I wouldn'tconsider it music, just words spoken to a rhythm, more like a rough form of "street poetry recital" than musicor singing and I don't think rap should even be referred to as music. "Rhythmic spoken word" would more aptly describe that style.

I first commented on this lesson 9 months ago at which time I didn't quite make it to the "very top". But my perseverance has paid off, and I have used this video a number of times now, and can now reach the top notes. I think I know what you would say Jeff but I still think you are the reason I am improving as I am. This channel (and you) are A...MAZ...ING.

Hello Diane! Thank you so much for your kind words. I would of course direct your attention to your focused practice, discipline, and perseverance. The channel is the material, perhaps, thoughtfully constructed if I may say so, but you have done the singing. Well done! Thank you! Jeff

@@JeffRolka Thank you TOO Jeff. For me it's kind of like being on a carousel, it just gets better and better and I never want to get down from it. I must say also your Tonal Onset video was a great new dimension to think about. I am taking so much more care now when I sing, and when I finish for that matter. I am ashamed to say I never really thought WHY that sometimes my first word wasn't quite sounding correct, but of course now I do! Each thing I work on gets stuck into my mind and brain. Love also the Messe Di Voce exercises. I usually do 2 or 3 extra ones because I'm greedy! About the theory side again, having done lessons on the Pentatonic scales thanks to you, I have also been reading about the other "tonics", the Diatonic and Heptatonic scales. I just like to know as much as I can. Have a great day.

I think this is exactly what I should be doing daily. I was born with A larger range. Now I know the difference between training for average voice & range and larger voice!
@valerieann96376 жыл бұрын
sERIOUSLY I RECENTLY FOUND OUT I WAS NOT PROPERLY TRAINED...MY SCHOOL FOCUSED MORE ON PRAISE FOR SPEED YOUR VOICE CAME ALONG RATHER THEN WORKING WITH VOICE TYPE, YOU SANG 2 . 6 OCTAVES OR LESS YOU CAME ALONG FASTER. I SANG AT THE TIME F2-E6 WHEN I STARTED TRAINING. STRETCHED A LITTLE THEN GAVE UP! I GOT RIPPED UP BY PROFESSORS THAT MY VOICE WAS NOT MOVING ALONG FAST ENOUGH AND EVEN GOT A B+'S FOR VOICE LESSON BECAUSE GIRLS WITH SMALLER RANGES SOUNDED BETTER, NOW YEARS LATER I LEARNED THAT: SMALLER VOICES GET QUICK RESULTS, MY HEAD RANGE ISN'T OPEN & I STILL NEED TO BE STRETCHED. MY THOUGHT TRAIN FOR OPERA, THEN AFTER YOU ARE STRETCHED AND RESONATING SWITCH TO ANOTHER TECHNIQUE FOR CONTEMPORARY MUSIC. THAT WAY YOU CAN AVOID FUTURING INJURIES, AS I HAD! WHICH IS WHY I SING, BUT I NOW WRITE SCRIPTS! IT WAS AN EASIER TECHNIQUE TO MASTER CLASS IN! PLUS YOUR NEIGHBORS DON'T CALL THE COPS BECASUE THEY CAN HEAR YOU BELTING THROUGH THE WALLS (KIDDING)

This is an awesome warmup! I'm curious: do you recommend doing these straight tone or with vibrato? I find it's better for me to warm up with both.
@JeffRolka7 жыл бұрын
it kind of depends on the needs of your repertoire. If you're allowed vibrato, then that lends itself quite nicely to relaxed singing. If you need to have a straight tone, you can certainly do the exercises that way but be careful that you don't strain! Best, Jeff

Exactly! For just general practice/vocalization use the alto videos. If you find that you need more information about lower range singing however, join me at my weekly live event and we can talk about it. Here's the link, they're every Saturday at 6pm London time: kzbin.infolive All the best! Jeff

c6 - d6 or thereabouts. Jeff
@joebloggs6194 жыл бұрын
I think I'll focus on these more challenging high soprano exercises because they work agility as well as on the super head voice. The high notes are no problem for me but keeping up the speed and agility needs practice because the higher they get, the slower and lazier my vocal chords get. They just hate moving fast. I think they need oiling, so they don't stick but move smoothly. Thank you Jeff. Will keep trying.

Hi Jeff thanks so much for your work! How high did these go towards the end? 😅
@JeffRolka2 ай бұрын
Soprano range singing warm ups that go over the secondo passaggio generally go to the area of about a5. I would advise you, however, to try to figure this out on your own, as it's easier than it may seem and will help with your ear training as well. There are numerous free piano apps for mobile devices or you can try this website: www.musicca.com/piano Just so we're clear, I have no affiliation with that website. When you come to the note in question, just pause the video, but keep singing the note. Pluck around on the piano until you find it, and then of course, you'll know the note. It is important to make these associations as vocalists, so that we come to know the physical feeling of the range that notes are in. All the best, Jeff
@joebloggs6194 жыл бұрын
Still notquite sure what I am but I can reach those extreme high notes. But I am not a light coloratura soprano so I struggle with the speed and agility these extreme high notes are sung at, though I can manage the peed and agility lower down. However, a I am confiident that, with practice I will be able to do some of these high coloratura type runs up to speed and not have highly notes sticking or slithering over them so theycan't be distinguished crystal clear. I have onlyjust discovored my very high soprano and very low contralto notes and find some vowels are harder to articulate clearly on very extreme high notes. The closed small vowels seem easier on higher notes. These and "ai" stay bright and clear, thpugh not very powerful, yet, but my "o" seems to get pretty dark sounding...

It depends on how you're doing that. If you're squeezing out your chest voice, I'd say that's probably not the most sustainable means by which to extend your range. Jeff
