I posted this on my IG story to help promote a book I recently endorsed "single, gay, christian" by Gregory Coles. I ended up sharing a timely story about a suicidal transgender person who Lecrae & I encountered on a bridge in the Bronx the night before. A lot of ppl asked for this to exist outside of the 24 hr time limit of IG story - so here it is. This is not an exhaustive talk on all views but an encouragement to befriend & hear the struggles of the marginalized & offer them the same love I've received from Jesus.

If you want to say we should love and befriend these people, you are right. If you say we should accept their sin as unsinful, I firmly disagree. And I really do believe it is disrespectful to call a man who thinks he is a woman a she. That was too far.

Amen. Notice he does not say what God’s word says about homosexuality? But rather be quick to judge those who judge members of that community? Yes indeed we must hear them out and be kind but that presuppose judging them righteously is not kind, nor love. This right here is not what brings them to true repentance. For failure teach them that what they practice is a sin is what keeps them in sin.

Thank you for sharing Andy! Being a woman of God, I was taught to hate the sin not the PERSON. It's not fair to be looked down upon and judged for the things we wrestle with. Jesus doesn't condemn us, He showers us with love and once we gain the knowledge and will to turn away from those sins, Ge makes us new creatures. Thank you and Lecrae for being there, I thank The Lord the most for placing you two in the path to stop the destruction. May God continue to bless, keep and anoint you. Have a blessed rest of your day and I'll see you 9/22/17 in Cincinnati!

We are not to hate gays or anyone. God had called all of us to love our neighbors as we love are selfs. So someone being gay is a sin just like a thief or a adulterer. We are not to agree with their decision but we are still suppose to love them.

I’m torn all over the place with this video. I respect the story; it softened my heart. At the same time, I hate all the whining that goes on about the LGBT community. I speak softly to them, I speak harshly against the political movement. My kids are in a school-and I work in a different school-where LGBT and trans stuff is taught to elementary and middle school kids as righteous! That angers me. I stand against the MOVEMENT while I have spoken softly to the people IN the movement. I hate the movement, but have no disagreement that if they turn to Christ, they are forgiven.

Bottom line, what Andy Mineo shared is probably geared toward us, the church. I don't believe he's speaking to those who don't know God yet. This is for the church to understand where he's coming from and what the church needs to do better. He didn't need to include repentance because he's talking about understanding and loving these people better before we get to the repentance part.

Sincere true repentance is a gift from God that sets us free. But we cannot do it on our own, no matter the sin. True repentance has to come from the heart. Just as sin comes from the corrupt heart. Though, how can someone repent if they have not yet learned the truth of the real Gospel? The truth that repentance is not just saying sorry, but it is the revelation that Christ died for us to be saved, but also died for our iniquity and in turn gave us the Grace (only *after we recieve him first as Lord and Savior truely can he intervene in changing our hearts) to be able to not live in consistent sin. Grace is not just a free pass that we recieve wonderful blessings and salvation, but is also empowerment from God to walk in true holiness. But if we first don't recieve Christ truly in our hearts *or we don't recieve his Grace and willingly to be able to walk in his ways, that means we are walking in fear and not love. For there is no fear in love in Jesus words. Everyone, no matter who they are unless they have been perfected in love they will not truly be able to repent and live the life that God intended us to live. Love does not condone any sin. The true love of God sets us free from sin, and helps us to live righteously only by his Grace. Our world has a sin problem yes, but it has since Adam and Eve the beginning of time. But it also has a *love problem. All these people are looking for love in the wrong places and when they come to us ("christians") for help, we ridicule and call them names and judge them based off of their "level" of sin, when God says sin is sin, but those who fear are not perfected in love, and those not perfected in love cannot fully recieve his free Gifts at the cross. For those who've studied the bible, we know in the end times their will be an increase in iniquity. We are seeing it first hand. But we are also seeing an increase in Pride, and lack of the true, pure, undefiled, unconditional love of God in the hearts of man. It also says many will grow cold in love. Us Christians included. The end point is, if they haven't recieved the free gift, Jesus didn't tell us to call people names or to ridicule. *He did in fact tell the adulterous woman to go and sin no more, but first he openly shamed everyone else who tried shaming her, because he asked of they've never sinned, and they couldn't say yes. It was the Love of God that caused her to repent and change her lifestyle. Not condemnation or name calling or belittling.*

Secondly I believe that the core message of the Gospel is that we messed up and there is nothing we can do to change that. God out of love came down to do just that, change us. So what I'm emphasizing is that, to evangelize to anyone you first get them to the realization that we all sin and sin and God do not mix.

“You can be gay and be a Christian. You can’t be gay and be a Christian.” Really, these are all words. These are just sayings and words trying hard to depict the fluid and complex minds within each of us. I must say, its quite hard for absolutes like these to exist peacefully in the mind of the church because we all are on different levels and we all have different perspectives of the life we’re living right now. And a lot of times, when people hear an absolute that they almost believe or something that is opposite to the lesson God is teaching them at the moment, they get defensive and turn off their ears. This has led to more unnecessary fights among people. Christian or not. But really, what we should do is listen to what is said by the other person, and always ask God for clarity. Ask to yourself, “I don’t know what they mean. The words they are using to depict their idea is not translating to me and it’s hard to accept. Give me clarity,” Those have to to be the first words we say in our minds, before we even open our mouths to respond. Only then can absolutes exist among the church- because now we are listening with a digestive ear and an ear that is patient to what is true to the person across from us. When we are really listening to what the other is saying, without trying preserve our pride, that is when love is really present and good fruit can come of a conversation.

Thanks for sharing, Andy, and praise God that you and Lecrae could be there for this person!!! For everyone else: I think this is what Andy is getting at -- our call is to love people and let God's love bring about change and repentance in their lives. Pray and love them, simple as that. I have friends that I went to church with that now self-identify as gay or trans. Even tho I don't accept their sin nor say it is good, I still love them as people. I pray for them, reach out to them, and catch up with them over a meal. They know I don't agree with what they do, but they know that I am one of the few/only Christians who still care/talk to them. They share their spiritual & sexual struggles with me that they can't say in their gay/trans circles, and we pray together. Love can mean going the long haul, praying and loving someone for many years. I only have this love for them bc God really went out of His way to reach me, when I was lost. I am by no means perfect, and there are people I struggle to love. But God is greater. As I seek Him, He gives me strength to love others. May you all be blessed to do the same!!!! ❤️

Greg Coles has identified himself as a gay man with no need for repentance. His own words, "...and so I began to try to navigate a new space for myself ...in which I remained gay and yet I remained totally in love with Jesus..." Jesus said "come as you are" ....NOT "stay as you are". There is a difference. This ideology that christians must simply love the world and "understand" the ways of the world without there ever being a call to repentance is the "doctrine of devils". If we truly love them, we should desire to see them come out of darkness and come into the marvelous light (1 Peter 2:9) ...not encourage them to continue in sin. 1 John 1:5 ...This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all. Let us not be deceived. We must love in the full context of scripture. True Love transforms. I say this in Love.

Unfortunately, I'm still reading judgement in the comments. And you hit the nail on the head, Andy. Before I became born again, I was a full-blown gay, drug dealing alcoholic. The bars were my church. My grandmother set the Bible out for me to read her bookmarks. That pushed me away, for I yet had eyes to see. My mother loved me unconditionally, which showed me what Jesus looks like. We love people to Christ, not cast stones, for we all are sinners. Being in youth ministry since I became born again 20 years ago, I've learned people want and need love, not condemnation. Love covers a multitude of sins. Only through love, will we draw the lost to Christ. If you're a Christian and don't understand this, you've not been active enough in building the Kingdom, doing ministry, evangelism, discipleship, etc. Get out of your comfort zone and get your hands dirty so that God can bring you to repentance. Then you'll know God.

Kay Two Does Jesus not say that whoever call on Him shall be saved? We are saved purely by His grace, not by anything we’ve done. When we put our trust in Christ that He paid our sin debt, we are sealed and going to heaven. Our efforts to stop sinning don’t save us, or keep us saved. He preserves us until the day of redemption. That being said, we should be battling the flesh everyday. However, to say that a person will go to hell based upon their actions doesn’t seem biblical to me. When a person is gay, they are told that they can’t be if they want to go to heaven, therefore confusing them, making them feel hopeless as if they must resist any deep romantic connection with anyone. That is an incredibly hard path to walk and I have yet to hear a true bible believing Christian extend out grace and accept that they have tried. They are always told to try harder, and held to a standard that they can’t meet, sadly resulting in many of them taking their own lives.

I think so many people mis-understood the whole point of this video. Andy isn’t saying he agrees with homosexuality, he instead is trying to understand where gays come from in order to help and love on them. It’s not always about repentance. Trust me, I’m gay and I grew up in church. Most gay people are aware what the Bible says in regards to homosexuality and the last thing that most of us wants is someone screaming at us to repent all the time. I’m proud of Andy for actually wanting to understand and actually listen to someone else’s point of view. How else are you going to grow? How else are you going to be able to help? I appreciate this video very much and at the end of the day, that person’s life was saved because Andy and Lecrae chose to love on that person. Anyone who thinks that telling her to repent might as well have just pushed her off the bridge themselves.

People who often comment on Reach Record's artists songs and posts usually are disappointed and feel that the artist whom they looked to for quality music with substance is leaning away from Christian values. Not me, here goes my comment. I've been listening to you Andy for quite a while since Formerly Known, and to me, you're not anything out of this world, but you're definitely not wack either. Needless to say, I listened to your music because it had substance. It wasn't "Jesus Jesus Jesus" in my face, and it didn't sound too corny either, it was a healthy balance. The problem I have here is, you actually accepting the gay lifestyle and sending a message to young Reach fans that it's acceptable. Where's the repentance of the man who wrote this book? Not once in this video did you mention that homosexuality was wrong. At this point, this is probably sounding like an average 'Reach' hate comment. This is just because I care for the younger people because I first listened to Reach when I was 13. I would've questioned the Bible and YOU, causing a bunch of doubt because of the fact that you market yourself with a spiritual background you don't firmly stand on with both feet. To every young kiddo watching, this crap isn't acceptable. BUT, it's understandable we all have our struggles. At the same time, calling out the sin for what it is and not fabricating it. We're not defined by our struggles, if you identify yourself by your struggles, you need a reality check. We were made in the Image of God, though imperfect, but through the blood, we're able to advance in our lives by maneuvering through the chapters. The title of the book in itself sounds like a marketing tool for people to 'accept'. It's sad man. Logic, and now you.

Andy, thank you for your love and courage to speak truth. As Christians we put so many caveats on what it means to follow Christ when John 3:16 literally says ANYONE who believes (indifferent of sexual preferences, political and social affiliations, whoever believes will live and not perish). Jesus loves gay, queer, transgender, straight, all the same. He died for all of us.

I think the whole point of this video is to remind us that we are to always love with the love of God, no matter the situation. Andy talks about how some Christians tend to have an ugly and even hateful attitude (which is definitely not from God) toward gay and transgender people, some of which are struggling with it everyday. God loves us all, even in our brokenness, and instead of us loving everyone and trying to be more like Jesus, we push the very people who need God the most further away from Him with judgment and ugliness. It is so vital that we remember to leave all the judging to God.

I feel most of the LGBTQ community are offended, even when you approach them in love because most are looking for acceptance instead of change. All I know is that the word of God is true, one can not be a homosexual and a beliver. The fact that this man still identifies as being gay and celibate is a problem. Once saved our identity is in Crist, all though we may struggle God is always there to help us to overcome through the power of the Holy Spirit. I wonder if Andy really understood this guy and his book before he endorsed it. Jesus said that he would judge those on the outside of the body, but we as believers, are to judge those on the inside righteously. Because this guy is saying he's a believer he's being judged by the body. I'm praying believers, will have more discernment. The Bible warns us about deception in the last days. We're to trust no man. As much as I have supported Andy and the entire 11Six Clique, the message is changing, and it's disturbing. We should love everyone including homosexuals, but not to the point that we withhold the truth, of repentance and turning away from sin, whether we're indulging in it or thinking about. God Bless

I'm so glad to finally see a Christian who is willing to listen before saying something, when I was in middle school I was starting to question myself and when I tried to talk to people and figure myself out but everyone I talked to (including my parents and the wife of my youth pastor) but they all said things like "it's a faze, it'll pass" and whenever I would be trying to talk about this (especially my mom) would end up making me feel like I'm a mistake for feeling like this, the only one that actually tried letting me figure this out on my own was my dad. And even now I'm trying to figure myself out but I'm still proud to say that, "yes I feel this way about these people, and yes I still love god" because I figured out that God knew what was going to happen to me before I did, he knows what will happen and he knows how I will end up figuring out, and even if I am what others call "a sinner" so is everyone else. And as long as I love God he will help wash away my sins I apologize for pretty much telling my entire life story lol

Actually, brother Mineo, you need to be careful about how you deal with Scripture. The text you referred to, Matthew 25, is not speaking generally about how you treat just anyone who is down or misunderstood or hurting. He was speaking of the "brothers and sisters" of His, which means it's how we treat each other. The text does not support the idea that how we treat unbelievers reflects on our love for God, since unbelievers are sometimes to be shunned and distanced from due to the nature of their sinful character. That doesn't mean we are to distance ourselves from God or that we are distant from Him. So, you need to be careful and exegete Scripture properly to come to accurate conclusions about issues like this. What you and Lecrae did on the bridge was great. It was the right thing to do. However, we also have to be careful and understand that just because someone talks about wanting to go and be with Jesus, that doesn't mean they truly know Him. Scripture is clear that it's easy to give lip service to the faith. There's so much that can be said, but I don't want to jump to conclusions. Just because you endorsed a book called, "Single, Gay Christian" doesn't mean you endorse the idea that being "gay" is ok, or that the gay lifestyle is fine to live. People are out there making such assumptions based on the title alone, which is an oxymoron to some degree, something akin to "Lying, Murderous Christian." No, we Christians don't live that way and we don't define ourselves by our past sins. Maybe Coles just wanted to have a provocative title to catch attention, but from a Scriptural perspective, we can't call ourselves Christian and yet live a lifestyle of sin, regardless of the type or category of sin. So just be careful how you endorse and what you endorse, and how you present yourself to others. You seemed to have great compassion for the person on the bridge and none for the Christians who may misunderstand you and "unfollow" you. They deserve the same compassion you extended to the person on the bridge, my brother. Peace.

I agree that we should love and encourage everyone, all the more those that are marginalized. The problem that I have is attaching a word like "gay" next to Christian as if those two are acceptable together. That doesn't make sense when it is a sin and not at all in agreement with a life being lived for Jesus. I know that no one is perfect and we are all guilty of sin. But, there's a difference between that and choosing to identify with it. Here's a quote from the book: "I’m the guy you thought you could never be: a guy who’s gay and loves Jesus and isn’t ashamed to admit either of those things." Now, I'm not exactly sure what he means by that. But, it comes across to me that that there's an acceptance of homosexuality and perhaps a sense of pride as well, whereas there should be a sense of shame and urge for repentance. That's between him and God, but I'm not going to encourage that by saying it's okay to be gay and I'm certainly not going to say it's something to be embraced. I can be understanding, accepting of him and loving, but I'm not going to lie to him. That is not love. Even though this young man has apparently chosen to live a life of celibacy so that he does not give in to homosexual sex, he is still attaching that label of "gay" to himself. But, why? If he chooses to not engage in homosexual sex then why is he still attaching gay to himself? Because he still feels attracted to the same sex? Is it okay for him to embrace those feelings when homosexuality is a sin? It's not okay for a Christian to embrace feelings of lust for another (unless it's toward your spouse). So, is being gay okay as long as you are celibate? Is that the message he is trying to send? Because that is who he is? Is that what God says he is? Who or what is telling him that? If you are truly trying to live for Jesus as a real Christian then those two do not go hand-in-hand and that is something that will keep knocking at you. So, I don't understand why he seems to be accepting of that. I don't know this person, and his heart and walk with God. But, this sounds like someone who is still struggling to figure things out for himself and therefore one should be very careful as to what they take from this account. I came across this review of the book and thought it was pretty insightful: pastorgabehughes.blogspot.com/2017/09/a-review-of-single-gay-christian-by.html

The author of 'Single, Gay, and Christian' says in a KZbin video, that, "God doesn't always promise to remove desires from your heart". But to that, I say, God indeed does! God will not close a blind eye at bit and pieces of the sin in our lives. He wants ALL of the sin in our lives gone. Because it is destructive, and will ultimately separate us from Him for eternity. We, as born again believers, are called to love. If we have no love, the Bible tells us we are nothing. But we are also called to repentance and turn away from our sin. Homosexuality is a sin. If anyone has a problem with that, they can take that up with God. But to coddle people and to tell them that their sin is okay, and to be foolish enough to think God won't convict you to change from your destructive fleshly desires, is blasphemy. The enemy is working double time trying to get us to believe his lies, and for us to be accepting of anything & everything; Satan knows his time is short and that Jesus is coming again, soon! YES, be compassionate, be loving, be welcoming. BUT, also repent, long for righteousness, and ask God for his discernment for such a time as this.

I just have a question, from Christian to Christian, why do you think the suicide rates are high? Suicide is when pain and desperation outweighs coping mechanisms. Most people who are gay don’t want to be. At some point or another, almost every person with same sex attraction calls out to God, whether they believe in him or they didn’t. I struggle with same sex attraction, and being told by a Christian that I know that I am not okay where I’m at is what made me feel like committing suicide a few years back, until I was lead to the truth. The truth is that our actions don’t separate us from God for eternity, our decision to believe or not believe does. Jesus days that all who call on His name shall be saved. Because salvation is a gift, not based on anything that we have done. He instructs us to forsake sin. But if we are counting on our efforts to forsake sin, then how do we ever have peace in Christ? I have a strong faith, but to commit to a life of being single without proof that He does indeed exist is a difficult, hopeless feeling. To imply that our feelings mean nothing to God is a hard thing for me to imagine. God doesn’t revolve around our feelings, but He is a loving, compassionate, merciful God. He is not going to just turn a cold shoulder to people who already feel hopeless and worthless

Why is everyone going on about repentance? Andy never said to not repent or to normalize a sinful lifestyle. This video was a message to CHRISTIANS. He was speaking about having compassion on others, on listening before speaking, on being less judgmental and condemning. Compassion and love is what draws others in and even allows you the opportunity to share the Gospel with them. If we turn people away for how they look or live, when would we be sharing Jesus' message with them? THAT was the point. Not to glorify or normalize sin. smh.

That is the least you can do as a christian, or let alone being decent person. If that man comes to God and changes that is his choice. Sorta like people who sin all the time with no effort claiming they are better than everyone else. Andy said nothing about accepting their sin. He did say give unconditional love like God. So I originally wasn’t going to comment on the video, seeing as it is 4 years old at this point, but reading the comments a little frustrating. A lot of the comments are really good but others really bother me. First off, I agree with Andy. 1000%. We should try to accept others even if we don’t understand. We all sin and God loves everyone despite that. Second, most of these comments are great and talking about acceptance but others are frustrating because they say we should love others BUT they hope that the LGBTQ+ community repents their sins, meaning homosexuality. This is where I disagree. If God sees all sins as equal, why is being gay or bi or transgender or any part of the LGBTQ+ community (if it is a sin, as I know that there is a lot speculation about that) any different than sins that other people, Christian or not, commit everyday? It doesn’t make any sense on why some Christians feel the need to tell gay and trans people they’re going to hell but feel that they are being any better by acting harshly towards them? (Not saying that this was this comment section, but I do hear a lot of that, especially in the church I go to) I am part of the LGBTQ+ community and when I hear stuff like that, it honestly pushes me away from Christianity completely and makes it very hard to feel connected to it at all! It certainly doesn’t make the community feel loved by Christians, or by God, especially, just like Andy said, when the Christians that treat the community like this are the ones that are seen the most. As far as people agreeing on whether or not it’s a sin or not to be gay or trans, I don’t feel that everyone will ever agree on one or the other. It’s just not possible, but no matter which side you believe to be true, treating the community with hate and disrespect, is not the way to help show them God, but treating them with love (and not announcing that you hate their lifestyle) is probably the best way to do it. And I know many LGBTQ+ people also have religious trauma (or even a general disdain for religion) from being treated with hate from the church too, so you also need to be patient when trying to show the community God because being pushy will just push them away further. I know this strayed a little further from the topic of the comment section, but I really wanted to say this stuff. I’m sure many people will disagree, and that’s fine, everyone in the world is not going to agree with each other, but I really hope what I said makes at least one person think a little bit. I don’t say any of this stuff to be mean or disrespectful either, but I really wanted to give my opinion on the matter. Also thanks for this video, Andy. The acceptance and kindness you showed really made me happy

The message is very conflicting. To say your "gay" is to identify your soul with the desires of your flesh. If you agree that homosexuality is a sin, then just because you feel homosexual desires does not mean that you are what your flesh feels. That's the whole point of "dying daily" to the flesh. If you are in Christ you are a new creation. Period. So, why should one say that they ARE gay. Why not proclaim identity with the Spirit of God and say " I was gay, now I'm a new creation". Instead of saying "I am what He says" you say "I am what I feel" this is not the Gospel. The issue at hand is not a matter of words (though massively important) but an issue of the heart. Do we mean to say that we truly are what we feel because we have not been born again? I can't answer that for this guy.... anyone lead by his teaching must ask themselves.

But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God. it can be hard because your right we are called to Love but there are meany forms of love and to tell a brother they are in the wrong to save them is hard love but they need to hear it.

Speaking truth does not have to mean condemning others. We can speak truth out of love. We can speak about showing compassion for others, yes I agree with that 100%, but we miss our calling when truth is not spoken. Preaching repentance is part of speaking truth. Part of being a Christian is acknowledging our sin and need for God, but it goes beyond that, there must be constant repentance that leads to a renewed mind and changed heart.

I’m completely open to discussion and correction if necessary so if you disagree with me then please make your case. That being said I feel like along with all you’ve said you also need to say that repentance is necessary for the healing process to begin. If you identify as homosexual or transgender then you need to recognize that that is sin. It’s like saying that you identify as a porn addict but are still a Christian. What needs to happen is repentance from your previous identity and as a result Christ will help your true identity to be fulfilled as you grow in Him. Christ loves people that struggle with homosexuality and He wants them to repent and turn to Him so they can be reconciled to God. So don’t hate homosexuals. Show love to them while preaching repentance of sins and the forgiveness that comes with that. Struggling isn’t the sin, but giving in to that temptation is. Prayers for those who struggle in this area and for those who hypocritically show hatred. Another note is that I think it’s contradictory to say that you question the salvation of people who show hatred against homosexuals when those people are struggling too. Homosexuals fall into the sin of practicing homosexuality and people who hate homosexuals fall into the sin of hatred. You can’t question the salvation of one without the other but you can continue to preach the gospel to both parties along with Christ’s love.

Unfortunately Andy. You have a whole world of Christians looking at you bro who are going to correct you on what you've spoken out on. God's testing you to see if you will be humble enough to heed correction or see that you are above it. The bible calls us to call out other believers in their Beliefs views and actions. It's a loving thing.

I'm a little confused by the message and am just looking for some clarity. It appears that Andy is saying that we need to understand their struggle and love them. But there's a little gray area I would like some clarity in. Is Andy leaving it at just understand them and love them? Or is there more to it? As I understand it we do look to understand and love them but at the same time wouldn't we encourage them to come out of that lifestyle like we should if someone is addicted to porn? I'm a little hazy on the second part of the transformation of the lifestyle. I don't know the struggles of someone who loves God but wrestles with that sin, but I knew the struggle of loving God and wrestling with porn. So wouldn't we encourage them to persevere and overcome the sin like people did to me? I'm just looking for some clarity.
