A retired, successful career woman wrote. I put my career and acquiring things above having a husband and children. My friends are married with children and grandchildren and I am alone in my big house surrounded by material things that now don't matter one bit. To me now, successful women have a loving husband and children. I succeeded in my career but it gave me a very lonely life. I find myself taking people to lunch and dinner just to have somebody to talk to. If I could do things over I would place a husband and children first and place my career last.

@@djkizzo152 I do see your point, and you are right about that. But in my case, I have no desire for kids nor did my ex-wife, or want to be a parent so it does make things a little different for me. But coming from someone who has been married, people have been fed such a false narrative from Disney, the Internet, and many are places that “ so and so got married and lived happily ever after” That is the biggest load of BS. If you are not happy with yourself in your own life, no one person or thing is going to change that for you.

For those who are single and without kids in their 30s/40s… don’t be too sad. I’m 43, married, one child … and I have never felt so lonely or sad in my life as I do now. NOTHING is easy when it comes to relationships. We have to make ourselves happy, no one else will give that to us.

You should try actually fixing your marriage. Unless you just married the first guy who would impregnate you, you obviously loved each other in the beginning. If love existed once, it can again. Truth, love and courage. Stop lying to yourself and each other. Have the courage to speak the truth with love. Tell your spouse that you want to fix things and improve them. Nurture love instead of nurturing hatred and resentment. Stop blaming each other and start taking responsibility for your own actions. For the past 60 years, children have been endlessly harmed by the selfishness of their parents. Give your child the loving environment he or she deserves. That's the bare minimum you owe the child.

I have recently been feeling like a "leftover" woman at 35 and alone. Always was in long-term serious relationships, but those unfortunately ended. But I also see women who did the "right" thing in getting married and having kids. Now they are divorced, and the children grew up and moved away. They ended up alone afterall. I'm just trying to remember that starting a nuclear family holds no long-term promises of companionship or stability.

After being through enough men women can no longer respect men because there is no such thing as casual sex especially for an emotional creature as a female. Its easy to talk like this now a quick search on youtube for this same topic will reveal something much darker.

Agreed about the social life! I feel like even when you're in a romantic relationship, you still need other relationships. Your life partner isn't going to be everything for you so regardless this is needed. I started dating again recently but I don't feel lonely or that I'm missing our because I connected to different people in my immediate community. I know married and divorced people, some will say don't do it! Some don't have great relationships with their kids or they have bad marriages. I personally want a family and know I can do better than those I know, but I'm not always sure I want to change my life now that I'm in a place of complete contentment. I know life changes anyway, but I'm not motivated at all to continue dating.

My wife is the exact opposite of the person I was looking for. I love her with all my heart. She's the furthest thing from the woman I was looking for. Don't let your standards and wants in a person, ruin what could be a wonderful relationship. Honesty and Kindness are the only 2 must haves you shouldn't compromise. I see people everyday dating and marrying people that aren't kind or honest but them check all the other boxes. Those people are miserable. Date someone that isn't your type. See what happens.

@colerainswaggify6387 how do you actually know this? All of my female friends and family members who are 40+ have men who are pursuing them. Even my aunt in her 60s stays having boyfriends and men who want to marry her. You'll get older too and you'll see how it is. Men need women, that never changes. And only a small minority of young women are really available for much older men. You'll learn that as well. That's why there's so many middle-aged bitter men ranting all over the Internet.

@@utamu777men might pursue to get sex but not to be in a committed relationship with the intention of marriage . That’s the delusion a lot of older women have .. not because you have alot of men hollerin at you means they’re all valid dating options. A long term relationship is a WANT, not a NEED. Things you NEED: food, water, clothing, shelter, an income. You might WANT a Ferrari or a $10 million dollar home but you can survive without them. WANTS vs. NEEDS. A LTR is not a NEED. It's a want. It's 100% rational to say "I don't need it" because it's true.

@@tiahnarodriguez3809 Nope sorry, as a woman who has been happily married for 12 years and a proud non-feminist, the way women speak about men and to men nowadays is truly appalling. Show me a single woman in her 30's and 40's and can tell you why she's still single. And it's truly sad. Generations of women have been sold a lie, and are now dealing with the consequences of believing that lie. I don't blame this man for one second for bowing out. He obviously had a wonderful and respectful wife and doesn't want to deal with the modern feminist "independent boss babes" that are currently the norm on the dating market. At the current rate, by 2030 over 50% of women will be single. This is unprecedented. Men don't want toxic, entitled, ungrateful, jaded feminists, and I don't blame them.

This woman is a classic example of single for life. I'm dating in my 50s and I run across A LOT of these women, waiting around for some super high value guy, hitting all the checkboxes that no longer exists. After 40, those guys are a rare rare unicorn and you are competing with the top .01% of women for them. The pool of guys is massively tilted towards guys who are narcisists, single forever with commitment issues, attachment issues, sexual issues who you'd never want to date. The more you build a life you're happy with, the more you are convincing yourself dating is unneccesary and the more you get comfortable and normalized to the loneliness of not having a partner. Single for life people are a total waste of time.

I grieve every day over having no children and feeling helpless to make it happen. Its not that easy to meet someone and its tiring. I dont enjoy being single and havig no family of ny own. What I believe is, because of recent history, humans in general give too much relevance to marrying and romantic relationships, when we suddenly live in an era where children aren't that much needed anymore, as the world is full populated 🫤 so we should evolve ourselves to understand that marrying only to "build a family" shouldn't be the main reason to be in a romantic relationship. You're super young! Don't let your mental stuff slow you down; the right person will make you feel comfortable just as you are. The biggest thing isn't so much looks, it's more about how you look after yourself. Self love glows and it's really attractive. You deserve to feel good about you! And you're worth that investment. Any processed sugar, low Vitamin D, and low magnesium greatly impact mood. I strongly recommend cutting out processed foods and sugars as much as possible. If your budget is tight, cabbage, carrots, onions, and potatoes are super cheap and nutrient dense. Fish and coconut oil will help your brain form new connections, magnesium from cocoa powder reduces anxiety and jittery-ness. Who knows, maybe you're already on your way :P All the best!

Um, no.... there's more demand for me now in my late 30s than ever before in my Life. I am also stronger and healthier than ever before and I Like myself more than ever before. The thing is I don't settle for crap anymore and while sexist and age-ist perspectives may seem comforting or funny, they're really not universally true. They're also self-defeating because everyone ages and has a sex or at least pretends to have one. All the best.
