Paulla McCarthy is the owner of a spring water bottling plant in upstate New York. She not only owns a water plant, but owns the land from which the spring water is obtained. There is a global water shortage that is getting progressively worse. The fight for control of drinking sources has led to experts to predict that water will become more valuable than gold over the next 50 years.
Paulla has been offered over $20 million from major water companies to sell her property, but she is steadfast in holding on because of the importance of black ownership of natural resources.

I thought the same. Her business and family needs protection. We've seen more than enough TV dramas not to think that one of those big companies wouldn't resort to pressure tactics or dirty tactics to get her to sell her business especially after she finishes updating the equipment and can begin to increase the water plant's output and thus increase revenues. Although I referenced TV shows, those fictional stories are written based on scenarios from dynastic families and how they run their businesses. An company like Poland Springs offering her $20 million offer is such an BS low-ball offer. Poland Springs had annual revenues of $670 million so $20m is ridiculous. Glad to hear she's not interested in selling. Generational wealth won't come from selling off the business. It will come from having her sons learning the business and then letting one or both of them run and grow the business at the appropriate time.

I love this channel; where else can you hear a host misspeak "the water grows underground" and leave it in the footage when they clearly could have edited it out. I love this channel, even after the massive success they've had, it's still real and it's still raw.

That host was very focused on clarifying terms and clarifying situations. His focus on clarity and understanding lifted the interview up to an excellence it wouldn't have had if he hadn't been bringing out that clarity each time it was needed. He wanted everyone to understand, those at the table as well as the audience who aren't at the table to ask the clarifying questions, he asked for us. I can be a "just the facts m'aam" kind of guy when listening to something like this video, but their humor was great too. It wasn't dull and empty like anchors on network T.V. or Oprah and some guest. Their humor was uncalculated, natural, warm and never went ahead or awry of the main matter that they were there to discuss. Amazing work!

2 years later and STILL never received the water I paid for. Last communication she sent out had something to do with some legal battle she was in with the former owners. Honestly, I think she was doing too much too soon. She was the infrastructure carrying everything herself. So goes the way of many Black owned businesses. That's a helluva story. Big Short dude said he investing in water. I used to be an estimator for a company that performed large scale public housing projects. Some had weird private financing and bank people would visit the sites. This one bank lady told us that the best places to live is the midwest due to water.
