@@LineSpeedJediTimRawlins I was out practicing my single Spey. Should my fly be airborne during the sweep? Regular modern Scandi line - approx 33 feet head.

Awesome to see you talk yourself through it. I literally talked myself out loud of some crappy casting today! I’m not the only guy talking to myself.

In the slo mo at the beginning just as the leader was peeling, a bird takes off. First time I looked I thought "What the heck is that fly!" Until I looked a second time!🤣🤣

@@LineSpeedJediTimRawlins I really am learning a lot from your videos. I've got a shoulder injury that single hand casting doesn't help. So I'm moving towards 2 handed until it gets stronger. I've just put a removable fighting butt on my 10' 4# making a micro skagit

Hi Tim, That was a good job of describing the mechanics of the casts before actually preforming them. All is well here :) Ard

Nice video Tim! I think you cast well! Not all of our castingdays we dilevery our best casting, but you still learn a lot and need to think out what to improve for the next practising day! You mension the translation in the end of the forward stroke in the beginning of the video I think you meant to say rotation? A good way to get ridd of to much line stick in the ancor is to lift the rod higher when you drift before delivery cast. Keep up the good work Tim and let new speycasting videos come our way! //Roger

Hello Tim Sure let me start with the running lines. I always place a swivel from the running line to back end of the shooting head. This two kinds of running lines works best for me if wet before use, I like the cheaper green big game trilene from Bk in 40 lbs to fish at night, but my favorite is a 35lb, floating Ken Sawada Flat Beam Super Shooting Line. Is easy to manage , again, must be wet before use as well, doesn’t tangle if a swivel is placed between running line and the shooting head back end, also for casting at night and be able to know how much of the hangover you have at low light, this running line is very easy create a “kink” or bump in the line by just folding it and press down with your fingers, that bump is let it me know when it’s time to stop the retrieving and start with the next cast with a perfect amount of running line for the hangover every time. The Skagit shooting heads Is my best bet to any light conditions, surf or weather situation, no over head cast need it, just roll cast regardless what wind direction is out there, like casting side or non casting side wind direction, I just go with a Snap T, P-poke most of the time. One big diferente for me in casting at night, is the distance, I cast no more than 60’ to 70’ max even in perfect conditions. Reason why, less running line to manage equals less possibilities to tangle, tangle running lines at low light is a nightmare, but when in the sur especially in cold fingers weather; is just more efficient and easy for my casting skills stay compact and efficient when fishing at night by just “casting short” Definitely Skagit heads are a game changer for me. Rod lengths no more that 12’. Keep up the great work Tim! I’m learning a lot from your videos. Thank you for the time!

Too much arm movement? Bad day casting? Too much line stick? Yea maybe, but still, you’ve self diagnosed and you’re doing great. I’ve watched your progression, and you’re getting better all the time.

Hello again, great job Tim, one question please...,”If “...you have to close your eyes during the formation of the D loop, what’s the only reference or feeling you have link to the rod , that is key for you to know everything is lined up correctly on the 180? Thank you!

Sorry Tim my question wasn’t very clear. One more time please, lest pretend you are casting in the dark, with no visual reference over your fly line or rod. How do you know the 180 principal is right? Thank you!

Line Speed Jedi I fish at nigh in the surf, not many times is so dark that I can’t be able to see the rod tip, the fly line to the leader and fly. Feeling the rod tip is the key for my 180 Tim . I always find useful the rod tip feeling to figure out the 180 regarding light conditions. The rod tip feeling is exactly the same as any over head cast will be with a single hand fly rod, you really can feel a “bump or tap” over the rod tip when the fly line is fully extended and “stops” at the end of each casting stroke. That’s how I’m timing and set my 180 when roll casting or Spey casting, on the feeling, this will be always my main reference to get the 180 right, is just that rod tip “tap” feeling after the formation of the Dloop, also, by the intensity of the “tap” I know how deep my rod is loaded, the “sharper” the 180 is, the more efficient and deeper the road load will be, resulting in a much better and clean “tap” feeling. Hope it helps. Happy 4th guys!!
