What you’re doing is so awesome and of all the banjo players that do KZbin videos. You are my favorite by far.

When I was in college in the 1960s, I developed a single string style of playing to deal with melody lines. I had not yet heard either Don Reno or the other well known single string player at the time, Eddie Adcock or anything about their playing styles and I kept my single string playing to myself since I didn’t think anyone would think very highly of it. Once I heard about The playing styles of both of those players and listened to their playing, I started making my own single string playing more public since I no longer felt like some sort of misfit.

This great!! I went from playing bass for 27 years to picking up the banjo. My first instinct is to learn scales and the fretboard but that didn’t have the natural flow that traditional rolls had. I’m totally going to practice this a lot.

Slides, hammer ons and pull-offs can be a way to get more of a legato sound. However, my goal is to get a legato sound even when every note is picked. I record myself with a phone to see how close I am to that goal. The recording shows the three or four notes that are not ringing out in a phrase, and that tells me what part of the phrase needs work.

Eli, what is the name of that cool tune your playing when your videos end? Do you have tab or a video of it?

Great vid! Is that an improv lesson being hinted at? Would be a first on KZbin.

I like them all, my favourite though is the 2nd string. I'm slightly better at banjo than comedy.

So basically just sound like a flat picking guitarist lol. Bela fleck in that clip really just sounded like he was playing electric guitar
