When it comes to dating, what is our role? Should we be waiting on God, and if so, what does that even mean? Or, should we be taking initiative, and if so, what does that look like? Do we "let go and let God"? Do we download Christian mingle? HOW SHOULD A CHRISTIAN GO ABOUT MEETING SOMEONE?!
In this video I'm sharing what I think the answer is, and it might not be what you think. 😉

I just heard this recently and I feel it fits in well with this issue. In a sermon I recently listened to the pastor said, “ don’t lower your standards, lengthen your patience.” I feel this is a good “in between”statement. If the person is not right keep waiting, if you feel this person meets biblical standards give it a shot. This does involve having your eyes open.

I choose to wait on God; let's allow God to write our love story because it always has a happy ending. Let's be patient enough to wait for the man that God ordained for us because I always believe that God has never been intimidated by our age. He got a word over our lives. Always remember that shallow values produces empty victories.

Seriously, best godly AND realistic advice ever! Not over-spiritualized, but still biblically accurate, and so, so true! My story in meeting my husband actually WAS a mixture of both waiting and pursuing, and all of it was beautifully orchestrated by the Lord! Love this, Kaci! Would definitely recommend this video to any single friends I have struggling with the same question. :)

I'm confused should I pursue this guy that I like for 4 years or do I need to keep on waiting until he decides to ask me out. I had put up walls when we first met. we were coworkers so my focus is mainly about work not on building a romantic relationship with him. i felt bad because it took me years to finally admit to myself that i like him. i just hope it's not yet too late. we have simple conversation sometimes but it's more of a friendly one. maybe he became cautious or also built his walls. i just wish we can meet again so i can clarify what's this I'm feeling

I was meditating on the story of Isaac and Rebecca last month and I have never red it the way I red it before. I just feel in love with their story the entire time. I am 33 years old, my last relationship was 3 years ago. It really is a struggle specially when you know your ex is already in a happy relationship yet here I am still struggling with singleness. But reading the word and trusting God with everything that’s happening in my life is really giving me the strength I need. When I feel like questions are starting to build up on my mind about my singleness, I just pray to Him. I surrendering everything to Him is hard because too many temptations are around us but having a family in Christ who supports me thru constant fellowship, reading the word, being intentional with my prayers and realising my feelings thru journaling is very very helpful. Also watching videos like this motivates me even more. What I learned thru this process, I don’t want any ordinary relationship. I want a guy that God has ordained for me. Just like Rebecca to Isaac. Not Mr. right but His anointed for me...2 things that struck me with my learning thru my singleness. 1. God may want me to remain single because He wants me to be His alone and not too distracted with human relationship like I was before. After all He knows my heart. And being in a relationship makes me weak specially if its an unequally yoked one. 2. I will just constantly and continuously trust His process and timing. Because there is still hope in my heart that one day God will write my love story too hahaha. Thank you so much for sharing this video! Love love this so much! Full of truth. Also I am in love with your bed hahaha!!

Very good breakdown and God bless you! You hit the nail on the head in noting that no story is going to be the same and how we can often make the mistake of comparing and trusting in the blessing instead of the Blesser. Both stories you brought up communicate the fact that God is can operate any way He chooses. God is infinite and not finite in being and thought like we humans are.

I just wanted to say I so appreciate the wisdom you share in all your videos. I am someone who often over-analyzes and asks others' opinion to the point of paralyzation. I'm so often begging God for the answers without hearing Him instead of first pursuing intimacy with Him in order to be able to discern what he's saying to me directly. Thank you for supporting the balanced approach. I believe this as well but I was often torn on how to act on the topic of finding "the one". And people were so divided on this matter I almost became frustrated like could *someone* just give me a decisive theology on this. If I sometimes felt like approaching I felt like I might be distrusting God and going in the flesh; If I simply surrendered it it sometimes felt like I was naive and expecting God to do everything for me.

This is a blessing. I think people in general unnecessarily place a stigma on singleness. Don't get me wrong there is nothing wrong with wanting to be in a relationship. I like how in your article you mention that there are pros and cons to each season. At the end, each season is ultimately what you make of it. Singleness can be an opportunity to maximize your efforts on helping others, learning more about yourself, and seeking God. You don't have all the obligations of a relationship. God has plans for everyone if we are willing to let him, and those plans are for good and not bad (Jeremiah 29:11). I am 20 years old and have never had a serious relationship, but am trying to grow and serve as much as possible before he presents the right woman to me. His plan for you can be compared to a GPS. We are presented with the best route but we don't have to take that route. He wants us to follow him by choice. The GPS ultimately isn't driving the car. God's will is a very complex and beautiful aspect that is beyond our understanding. Just give it all to him and the rest will follow!

Good message! These records are very different circumstantially, but something that each record has in common is that those involved had *faithfulness* to God! Historically I've thought that it was more my responsibility to go out an diligently seek my future wife, but I have male friends who are more passive (for lack of a better word) and believe it'll happen when God puts someone in their lives; I've always seen conflict between these ideas but I've never compared these two records like you have, and it's comforting to know that the latter idea isn't giving up, and that God is looking after us all in this area of life because even though we have seen things differently, we still trust Him.

I have had people tell me to put myself out there. I have gotten rejected like that. I have been single for 6 years yep. I have had people tell me to go out more. Or to go to places where guys are at. I’m not wasting gas. I enjoy going to coffee shops I like to run errands in target. No one has ever approached me. Plus I am a black woman 🙍🏾‍♀️I just wish someone wouldn’t judge me for the color of my skin. To look at my heart instead of the outside all the time. I’m nothing like how society shows us.

I'm in my early 30s, I've been single all my life, and I know what you mean. It can feel that way. At this point, I'm not sure if I'm only waiting, or if it's the Lord's way of saying, "No." (It's been seeming more and more like "No," lately, but I'm honestly not sure if that's God's voice or simply my own discouragement.) When I have those days, I try to remember that Jesus, while being perfectly God, was also human - he knows the hurts and loneliness in our hearts, and we can lean on Him. He understands. I also try to remember that sometimes, what God wants is for us is to say to Him, "Not my will, but yours," the way Jesus did in the Garden. My future is in His hands. It's certainly not easy - and not to say that I don't still struggle, because I certainly, certainly, do - but I've found when I can do that, when I can surrender my own will, and just trust that He is leading me wherever life takes me, that's when feel God's peace most strongly. I hope that helps you, at least a little.

I know someone who said that when she met her husband, one of the things they said in a conversation is that she is very godly. She eventually asked him if he’s godly and he said yes. Then she taught more about herself being godly and he learned more good things about it. Now I’m keeping that in mind because I need to remember that for whenever I find someone. Especially if I don’t know him from church, or anything related to that

Wow! I don’t know if I’ve EVER found a more perfect video addressing this topic!! Thank you so much for making this-you completely nailed it! It is going to be different for everyone, and I love how the Bible addresses that (you chose great examples!)! Also, you’re so right about hearing stories about how people met and the incentives behind us asking those questions! Guilty as charged: I usually am asking myself if there’s some formula I can derive from their stories. 😅 And you were so beautifully encouraging at the end! I know you understand what you’re talking about: all the quotes of mixed advice you receive as a Christian were spot-on. And I think, ultimately, you always KNOW which season you’re in. For example, I really WANT to try to make things happen and set things up like Ruth. But I know for now, God has called me to waiting and trusting in Him. There’s always a season and there’s always a purpose in that season. Again, thank you so much for this! I’m praying for you today! 💕

I think all things work as togethers work, between God and Man/Woman. We have to move towards our goals, and God will put people on our path. At least, that is what I learned through out my life. If you do not expose yourself to others, those potential partners will not walk into your apartment and knock on the door asking you for a date. God is all about openness, courage and determination and those things greatly help out finding someone we want to fall in love into!

Thank you Kaci for the advice you gave. Some of your advice I already do. Some I need to get better at doing. If I may ask/request advice on how or where to meet a single woman? Got to meet and interact with a woman first before any dating advice can be applied. Can't take the initiative if I have no one to take the initiative with. This is my current situation: 1. For the past five years I have worked second shift. (4pm to 12:30am sometimes 2:30am Mon-Fri, sometimes Sat as well) Working those kinds of hours I have found make it extremely difficult to be apart of a Bible Study/Singles Church Group. The few groups I have found that happen on Saturday and Sunday have been for women, or married couples only. 2. I have tried online dating sites. Over the years I have spent around $1,500 on those site. To no avail. The sites are flooded with fake profiles and very fickle people. Or just women that I don't find attractive. and 3. I'm not 6 foot tall or taller. I'm 5'8" and I have found that, for the most part, it is socially acceptable for women to have AND express their desire for a tall man... 6' or taller. But it is not socially acceptable for a man to have and express their desire for a woman that's flattering and attractive. Honestly I'm just blowing off some steam here. This is just one of those things that can't be changed. Better to put our efforts on things we can change. Anyway I would be grateful for any ideas or feedback. Thanks again! Cheers and God bless to you and your fiancé! 😀

@Adventureinlife the struggle is real I have had the experience of spending money on online dating sites where the men on there are very superficial where they want someone who looks like Kim kardashian. Sorry I am black I’m not mixed or anything else. I am short height I don’t care to much about because not everybody is going to be 6feet or making the 6 figures either. I desire someone who has a good heart. That online dating isn’t for me at all. You keep your head up there is someone for you. 😊

This was edifying, thank you!I feel released. Everyone has an opinion but u know, Sometimes with people we have to have a bit of grit and be tough towards well-meaning but wrong outside voices, especially if we know what God is saying to us. Here's what God shiwed me today: Romans 8: 24-26 For we were saved in this hope, but hope that is seen is not hope; for why does one still hope for what he sees? But if we hope for what we do not see, we eagerly wait for it with perseverance. Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. In other words, let's keep hope alive for the manifestation of the blessing of marriage which is the desire of our hearts...let's wait eagerly, with perseverance and when we are weak, lets remember that Gid helps us in our weaknesses who is praying for our greater good and loves, comforts and guides us.

I think there is such thing that God intends someone to stay alone. This way or another. Whether he sent someone in my way before, in the form of a bad guy and I was too stupid /impatient to unpack him and find there is a good person inside, or He never intended anyone for me... I guess some time we just have to accept that it's not going to happen. Instead of asking for something that's not for us, that's not our path, keep hoping and praying, we should just move on. Maybe, after losing half of our life waiting and hoping, we can free up that energy and make ourselves useful in another way before it's too late.
