Yes, those are silicone valve caps that do indeed, look like little dicks. They're actually a business venture by Steve Peat called Dee-Dar's Push On's; www.uberbikecomponents.com/category/489/Dee-Dar-'Peaty's-Push-On's' I really like them! ST Wil.

I am thinking to buy a 2019 in los Anglees area..I am very trumpeted but I am wondering about the long-term reliability of this bike vs a Pevit switchblade or Yeti SB 150...Can you help me with this question? I'm too worried about leader support as well rear-shock service

those shots in slo mo of riders receding always show up how much the rear wheel actually flexes when you hit a bump especially a short wave length high amplitude one. you can clearly see the distortion of the rim as the shock wave generated by the impact travels upward through the rim...just sayin

Do you think the lower priced/affordable models would suffer too much with the cheaper components?
@thatguythatdoesstuff74486 жыл бұрын
Well, I meant to edit, but accidentally deleted. Hopefully the full comment made it into your notifications. The only edit was the cheapest bike is actually about 3 pounds heavier, not 2.5. Take a look at the SCOTT site and compare the bikes.

Hey there Ian, Great question! I would say that the most important features on the Ransom are the chassis, geometry, suspension and TwinLoc system - and those features are found on every Ransom model. Each model also comes with the 2.6in wide Maxxis Minion tyres, 1x12 drivetrains, and powerful disc brakes. Of course the top-end models are lighter, and therefore easier to pedal uphill. But as Q Daddy has pointed out, it isn't a huge weight difference. If I was spending my own money, I'd likely look at the Ransom 920, which uses the alloy frame but still comes with Fox suspension, Maxxis Minion tyres, Shimano brakes and the SRAM NX Eagle drivetrain - and it's nearly half the price of the 900 Tuned model tested here! ST Wil.

Scott has a bike that’s Enduro capable, the 700 LT is 160 front and rear, which is an extremely fun and capable bike. I currently have the 700 Tuned LT, so it’ll be nice to make a direct comparison soon. 😁 It’s also only 28lbs with the 27.5+ tires on it. It climbs like an XC bike and descends better than any bike I’ve ridden to date for Enduro performance. The Ransom looks great geometry wise, but I hope there’s more colors to choose from.

What I was suggesting is that the 700 LT is still the best Enduro rig to date. 😉

motion macivor Every time I get on my bike I’m racing and pushing my boundaries. I ride and buy Scott to be sure I’m not lacking from the bike performance perspective. Scott has the best performance from every aspect. I use to ride Trek, but moved to get the twin-lock and better carbon stiffness design characteristics. Not sure if you understand what I’m suggesting, so hope this helps.

Whats the name of the top tube bag?
@singletrack6 жыл бұрын
Hey there Jonas! That's an Alpkit Enduro Pod that I've been using for a good while now. Since modern long-stroke dropper posts and full suspension bikes don't allow for using a saddle bag, this is basically the next best thing. It's essentially just a different take on a triathlon top tube feed bag, though this one is quite a bit bigger. As it can be quickly removed and installed on a different bike via two velcro straps, it comes in handy when I'm testing multiple bikes. Holds a spare tube, levers, CO2, tubeless plugs, emergency gels, chain links, cable ties - the key essentials that I don't always carry in my jersey pockets or backpack. I wrote about it in an article earlier this year: singletrackworld.com/2018/01/wils-top-5-trail-essentials-that-come-on-every-ride/ ST Wil.

When you activate the the Twinlock lever to the first position, is the front fork completely locked out?
@singletrack6 жыл бұрын
Hi there! Nope - the fork is only locked out in the 3rd and final position. Just to recap, there are three positions for the TwinLoc handlebar remote; 1. Descend: Both fork and shock are fully open 2. Traction Control: Limits rear travel to 120mm & increases fork’s compression damping 3. Locked: Both fork and shock are locked out Hope that helps explain, but just let me know if you've got any other questions mate! ST Wil.

Singletrack Magazine Thank you so much for your quick reply and for a great review. Do you think that this bike would benefit from having a Grip2 Damper installed and removing the front fork cable completely?
@singletrack6 жыл бұрын
That's a great question! If the Ransom were my bike, I think I would do exactly that - the GRIP 2 damper is very, very good, and would provide an even more glue-like feel to the front of the Ransom. I can see more aggressive, gravity-focussed riders making this change, and also considering a piggyback shock for the rear, or even a coil shock - both will work with the Ransom. I do think the TwinLoc system and the adjustable rear shock is one of the best features of the Ransom, and is what makes this bike so unique and such a good all-rounder. However, Scott has built it so that you can change the rear shock if you like. Along with the wheelsize adaptability, it makes this a very versatile platform to adapt to your personal needs. ST Wil.

How many volume spacers come stock on the fork and shock?
@singletrack6 жыл бұрын
The 170mm travel Fox 36 comes with no spacers as stock. The rear shock is a little more complicated, since there are spacers for both the primary air spring (like a normal Fox shock) and there are also spacers for the additional, radial air chamber that surrounds the shock body. When you're in Descend setting, you can toggle between Linear and Progressive modes on the rear shock (via the little Ramp Control lever on the shock body). This lever operates a valve inside the shock, which opens or closes this third radial air chamber, increasing or decreasing volume in the process. Remember - this only affects the shock while you're in the Descend setting. Inside this air chamber there are three yellow plastic volume spacers as stock. You can remove these to increase the volume of the Linear setting even further, or you can add spacers to fine-tune the progression of the Linear setting. The Progressive setting isn't affected by adding or removing these yellow spacers. From what I understand, there are no standard volume spacers inside the primary air spring, though you can add these if you really want to. However, since you can already fine tune the volume of the shock's Descend setting (both with the Ramp Control lever, and with the yellow shock spacers), most riders should get the behaviour they're after. Hope that helps explain! ST Wil.

WTF?? DHF in 29x2.6?
@singletrack6 жыл бұрын
Yup - it's a big ol' tyre! Speaking of, the tyres on our test bike are the regular 120tpi casing with EXO sidewalls. However, production Ransoms will come with the EXO+ rear tyre, which is around 100g heavier and features an additional Silk Shield casing reinforcement for added strength and pinch-flat resistance. These tyres weren't quite ready in time for the Ransom launch, so both tyres shown here are the regular EXO version. ST Wil.

I'm surprised, because I can't find any information 'bout this tyre. Anyways, that is the tyre I've been looking for a while now, can't wait to buy it (when it gets available :D)

Ah yes - it isn't quite available aftermarket yet! It's a great tyre, and I'll be putting a review together in the next month or so once I've had more time on it in some different conditions and terrain. Stay tuned! ST Wil.
