The intro of the Stevesons getting hanged lives rent free in my brain to this day. Not "scariest". There's a difference between frightening and scary. A jump scare will give you an automatic fright and raise your heart rate but that's completely different to other types of horror films which don't relly on jump scares. Your heart rate wont be as high watching them because there arent sudden jump scares BUT it doesn't change it from being "scary".

Funny little story I'll share. I was in grade 9 when this movie released and live in a pretty heavily forested area, one of my friends went to go see the movie late at night and rode his bike to the theatre. Fun fact: My mom took me to see this movie when I was little, thinking that it was gonna be some cliche, haunted house movie. I remember the opening scene of the hanging family catching me off guard, but it didn't bother me. When the lawnmower scene came on, my mom said I started screaming, flailing, and crying.
