The scene with Adam pretending to die may be the most hilarious moment in movie history
@opaque474210 ай бұрын
What's funny is I see/hear so many reviewers call out Cary Elwes for his bad acting in the original Saw, but I hardly ever see Whannell get criticized for his. Granted, he is a writer turned director, but that death by poison scene was beyond cringeworthy lol. I love Saw 1 though.
@opaque474210 ай бұрын
Such a good point. I've had discussions with fellow movie lovers and questioned why so many franchises FAIL to even get the most basic details correct with community: Michael Meyers' mask and jumpsuit, even Jason Voorhees from part 3 when he got the hockey mask through part 8, or Hellraiser, etc. So many just assume fans do not care, but I care about that stuff. Even who plays the main villain--only a few even care to get that consistent. I appreciate Saw for that.

OMG, the sheer unadulterated JOY of seeing you do this series and say what you did. I was just saying to my husband as I pressed play, I was so surprised to hear you say it was your fav horror series (it's mine too) as so many people say "I like the first one, but the rest are sh*t!"... then you proceeded to say exactly the same thing! I always rant on about how hearing the music and seeing the twisted pictures logo coming up gets me ridiculously excited. It's awesome to see someone well known & respected in the community talk about these movies as they deserve to be talked about.

I love this movie. When the twist happened at the end...mind blown! I also like that is was so low key and unassuming. No one knew what it was at the time...and it was a phenomenon. There are some great other entries in the series, but for me...this one is the best, probably because I remember how original it was at the time! Thanks for the review.

This first film is amazing and one of the best and unique horror films ever made. The entire series as a whole is everything you said and more. It always felt like the series was made by people who loved it and took it seriously.

Great review and I agree with u I love this series due to its continuation as I hate when films dont mention the other instalments in its franchise. I can't wait for another sequel as they might tell us who was in the other pig masks at the end of saw the final chapter. I just love it when films come full circle. 😁

GREAT review! It has to be said that SAW was based off of the 9 minute short film they produced in Australia, titled SAW 0.5, but the reality is, the idea behind the concept of the first 2 movies at least, was based off of a hybrid of Seven (1995) and Cube (1997), while throwing in the blind man/trap short story from Tales From the Crypt (1972).
@krissymarklewis17933 жыл бұрын
There maybe 2 entries where it was a bit meh but as far as retconning and continuity they nailed it. Even the lesser entries were not totally awful, I haven't seen Jigsaw yey but from what I have seen they are all solid.

Great series, but the first was the absolute best of the series. Truly original and original is something we don't get a whole lot of anymore. Sometimes I wonder if there will ever be another Halloween type movie ever again. Something that can influence and revitalize the genre that much. Even Scream to a lesser extent.
@Jean-PhilippeGuerin6 жыл бұрын
Some things that bother me: I would have tried to fire the bullet at the chain lock see if that helped. Its silly to me that they dont even try. Also, how long was Adam under the water? Because he would have died in like 30 seconds lol. And the villain (Ben linus from LOST) I thought was a bit silly that he kidnaps Gordon's family and he looks super evil but he's not a villain he's just a normal guy that needs an antidote just to make you think he's the bad guy which doesn't work as much for me on multiple viewings. Its kind of silly knowing where it all ends up. Other than that, my fav of the series.The twist is iconic. Game over. Jigsaw is my favorite horror icon.

Seriously, Saw is an underrated horror series. The only one I will ever agree with people who say it’s bad is the seventh film… but even that film has some fun elements here and there. Overall, this is the only horror series where I can legitimately sit and watch back-to-back films and been invested the whole time. In fact, back in 2017, when the eighth film was released, I watched the first seven films back-to-back in an single day, and had a blast as Adam would say. Great characters (John Kramer, Amanda Young, Mark Hoffman, Peter Strahm, Eric Matthews, Eleanor Bonneville, Lawrence Gordon, Allison Kerry, Marcus Banks, and Angie Garza are who comes to mind), a well-established mythos, and some impressive practical effects make these films, even at their worst, entertaining. Really looking forward to the tenth film, especially with the reveal that both Tobin Bell and Shawnee Smith are returning, and I’m still hoping for the return of Costas Mandylor at some point.

I enjoyed the series, but i like them pretty much in order because as it progresses something is up with the decision making, not badly but like say the scenes involving TV's, they originally looked legit but later got noticeably too clean and digital or green screened, less raw and natural. I still need to see Jigsaw but i always had fun with this series, the continuity is just amazing! I really loved the ending of 7! @SinisterCinemaReviews I just finished binging Saw 1 through 3 earlier today and I will be binging 4 through 7 as well as Jigsaw which I rented on demand earlier today so, I could finish the rest of the whole franchise tomorrow. I find it funny that, I watched 1 through 3 which is what I like to call the “Kramer Saga” of the franchise if you get what I’m saying haha lol, however I swear I had to turn up my TV much louder than usual when Kramer was talking compared to other characters because, I was having a hard time understanding what he was saying sometimes, which I honestly kind of expected since, he had brain cancer and even in real life if your talking to a person that has late stage terminal cancer like that they talk much like Kramer did in the Saw franchise sometimes so, you really have to pay attention and hang onto every word they say. However, I’m really enjoying them so far, I’ve heard constantly from my friends that I hold there opinions on movies close since, we typically have the same tastes in terms of what genres of film we like and several of them who are big horror fans like myself said that 1 through 3 are great and much like you said in this review that you constantly hear people say they are all shit after 3 which, I really don’t want to be the case I want to really enjoy the entire franchise but, I also am going to go in with little to no expectations and let the rest of the franchise play out like it does because, I really enjoyed 1 through 3 and if they keep up this fun and entertaining quality through the rest of them then, I’ll be satisfied 100%.
