You missed some important parts, the Sinn is hand assembled and they calibrate with the movement in the case. It’s not Cosc but Cosc is just a marketing tool for Swiss watch makers. Servicing at Sinn is far cheaper than the Breitling and you get any replaced parts back unlike Breitling. They also over refurbishing which is really reasonable. Sinn is a enthusiasts watch brand

I don’t consider the Sinn a copy at all because it literally has the rights to it. This is a Sinn Navitimer. Over the years, both the Breitling and Sinn Navitimers have evolved independently to take on the core attributes of each brand. Sinn is more rugged and-do-it-all, while Breitling is dressier and more fragile, strictly a luxury interpretation. Yet, the aesthetics are still unmistakably similar. Personally, I love the story of the Navitimer, and Sinn is an offshoot of (and runs parallel to) that story. Any history lesson on the Navi should always include Sinn as they were a key player in helping Breitling survive the quartz crisis. Sinn has certainly earned its place in Navitimer lore.

I suppose Breitlimg didn't outright sell the design patent for the Navitimer but they merely licensed it to Sinn. After all Breitling started making the Navitimer again.
@peterlind7790Ай бұрын
Actually Breitling didn't survive the quartz crisis. They went broke and sold some of the tooling, dials and remaining movements to both Sinn and O&W. Sicura continued making watches and provided some quartz movements to Chronosport etc, with some success and revived the name Breitling in the 90's. The company has been sold several times since then I think. So saying the Sinn is a copy of the Navitimer is downright false. Sinn and to some extent O&W continued to produce the Navitimer and Sinn has successfully done this since 1979 when Breitling closed down.

I think this is a really great value. You get a lot for the money. The story of how Sinn (and also Ollech and Wajs) bought the rights and some of the cases and tooling for the watches when the original Breitling company got into difficulties in the 1970s is pretty interesting. I have an Ollech and Wajs "Navitimer" that looks a lot like an old Navitimer. It's one of my favorite watches. I'd seriously consider this new and improved Sinn model.

Now I’m hunting for a 1959 809 re-edition and stumble on this video. Bugger…I can get the Breitling used for $6800 at the moment but the Sinn 903 is ticking so many more boxes it’s making me doubt pulling the trigger. I’m a cargo pilot and wasn’t really planning on wearing the 809 to work. Wouldn’t trust it outside on the cargo ramp in the rain. Cockpits are scratch central so the 809 wouldn’t be a very practical everyday watch on the job. The 903 with it’s 20 bar rating and sapphire glass looks to be perfect as a daily.

I had the previous 903 from Sinn and a Navitimer years after. Sold both and I only regret the Sinn sometimes. You get more shine with polished hands on the Navitimer and that's all. This change from Sinn wasn't necessary in my opinion but it's an achievement to have 200wr, by a clever bezel mechanism and also a screw down crown. You mention swimming with it ; while it looks silly to do that, the simple fact that I don't have to remove my watch If i'm giving my kid a bath or washing something with the Sinn is enough. Also important to note that the logarithmic scale of the Sinn is complete while the one on the latest Navitimer has been made simpler, which detracts from its purpose. The Sinn is much closer to the old Navitimers. Thanks for your video and close ups. From the website it looks like the black dial is sunburst while on close ups, it isn't. Can you confirm sunburst treatment ? I'm really considering adding a new 903 now ... :) 2 wishes : - a date wheel closer to the dial - a close caseback as i don't give a F* to the see through case back

I think the only way this watch could be improved is if the date window were decorated in some way, like with the stepped cutout on the previous version, instead of looking like an afterthought on this one. The way you can see the dial deform around the date window due to being stamped looks a little cheap to me as well, as opposed to actually cutting the rectangle out.

I love the idea of the navitimer, but I just can’t see myself (even as a pilot) ever using the E6B in the form factor of a watch bezel. Using a slide rule itself is easy but you need to be able to clearly read the scales to line them up and that is hard enough to do on a full sized flight computer. Despite a flight computer living in my flight bag within easy reach I have yet to actually use it in the air. All of that said, I can’t stop coming back to the Navitimer as something I “need” in my collection. Right next to a Hanhart 417 RS Flyback, and a Sinn 103 column wheel Ti DIAPAL… and a winning lottery ticket to cover them all!

Thanka for the comprhensive review. Two questions: Do the hands have a metal finish or are they painted white? Also, do I see an eccentric adjustment screw on the regulator mechanism?
@PeterKotsa2 ай бұрын
From memory the handset was painted white... as for the eccentric screw, i cannot remember as I had to send the watch back...
@chronocommander0072 ай бұрын
@@PeterKotsa Thanks for the reply. White hands are good! I can see what looks like an eccentric adjustment screw on the regulator stud in your video. If that's what it is that's also great because it allows for precise fine adjustment in a manner similar to a swan neck regulator.

Even though it is not a head to head but I would highly appreciate if you could emphasize little bit on the crystal clarity. I am sure you are well aware about Brietling crystal clarity. I am somehow convinced apart from the 0.9mm taller considering the price and 200 m WR.
@PeterKotsa5 ай бұрын
Yes the Brietling has got exceptional clarity on the Sapphire and in comparing the two, to my eyes this Sinn looks to be on par. The ar coatings are invisible and the detail I can see in the dial is crystal clear...pun intended 😊😂 Again, thats according to my eyes, they look on par 👍

I am a Breitling guy and the Navi has always been my grail watch. But the price……I wish Breitling would have stuck with the Valjoux movement in the Navi. I have an ETA movement in my Superocean II and after 6 years is still running at +1. And I don’t need the big power reserve. Maybe the Navi would still be overpriced, but at least it would be a little more affordable. Having said that, this Sinn is could be the second Sinn watch I buy. This is fantastic.

Fine vid Pete! I have a question: I also want a VJ 7750 in regular layout: Day/Date @ 03:00. I am wearing my TH-20-00 in my 39 mm TAG Carrera (blue, date at 06:00 MSRP $6750.00 USD) so I am familiar with well made chronographs, with or without column wheel architecture. Do you have a sub $5K USD suggestion for finding a 7750 in a well respected brand (Rolex, IWC, JLC, PATEK, etc. not included…..too spendy. ) that IS NOT a pizza plate on wrist? Sub 39 mm would be great. Thanks for your usual, high quality vid!

If your happy to go preowned, then you can grab some excellent watches for a great deal (I bought my IWC pre owned (mint/box papers etc) Alternatively there are quite a few microbrands which offer the 7750 for great prices

I have a blue dial Breitling Navitimer ref A23322, which has a 7750 inside; so it predates the inhouse B01 movement. That particular watch has a vintagey feel to it and I love it to bits. I love Navitimers and I don't mind having more than one to make a Navi subcollection. I plan to get a Sinn 903 at some point, but I would very much love to get a different colourway than the current offerings. I know that will take a while, but I'm nothing if not patient. I'd love them to do an all black variant (which is a colourway they had in the past); so black dial, black bezel and subdials, contrasting white handset.

That is a very nice watch, I've always liked that design 🙂 But I would clearly prefer a manual wind version of one of these to have a thinner watch case. Most of automatic chronographs are too thick, it is not very elegant on a wrist to my eyes. Thanks for the review and for the explanations about that specific model 👋

Pronounced like "sin" in English (a deed which brings you to hell)
@thewheelieguy3 ай бұрын
Peter deserves praise for the correct pronunciation! Many English speakers, even ones who studied German believe the S is pronounced Z but that's just laziness. I had to get some to pronounce "seit länger zeit" ("for a long time") to convince them there's a difference. I'm American but Germans and Austrians tell me I have almost none of what they consider the "English speaker's accent". They frequently guess I'm Dutch.

I have to confess I am huge Breitling fan with a couple of pieces; a gold Navitimer 46 and a Premier 42. I like the Sinn of course but there is no comparison if you can afford the Breitling. The Navi has history, soul and evolution. Its incomparable. If you cannot afford the Breitling then save more for longer and buy it. It took me a long time to acquire the first piece and I were them both with pride and confidence. Some things are just worth the wait and the sacrifice.
@prava1638 күн бұрын
Any history the NAVI might have had died when Breitling died. BREITLING was liquidated and SICURA bought all the rights of both the name of the company itself and of all hits designs. Then swapped SICURA for BREITLING. So its fine to like more the Breitling than the Sinn... but they are both on exactly the same page, as neither designed the watch originally and both bought the license for it.
@shanghaiffgg8 күн бұрын
@@prava163 no, the history transfers with the rights. Just because a legal entity dies doesn't mean the heritage of the line dies.
@prava1638 күн бұрын
@@shanghaiffgg I don't see the logic there. SICURA boght the rights, just as SINN did. Both are licensees and neither designed the model originally. We value Breitling more because of the name.... name which they bought. It happens with many brands today, don't get me wrong, but to me buying a name is not the same as being that name. Unless you bought the full company, name and all. Which is not what happened when Breitling went down.

My dad has a Sinn U1, recently had it for service. He brought it himself to a service centre in Germany. It took them 6 months to service it, the bill was for basically half of the value of the watch and since the service it has been running slow. Safe to say even tho I like this model, I perhaps rather by it over at Breitling maybe they service better and not for such extreme prices?
@PeterKotsa4 ай бұрын
Thats unsuual... Sinn is usually quicker than that and the price sounds inflated somewhat.. Was there any major repair damage or just a general service? Cheers

@@PeterKotsa Bezel and hands, glass (He cracked, but not broken it), main spring, four smaller wheels, a spoked wheel, something that looks to be a cover around the canyon pin.,crown, seal, and a few screws replacements (I have the old hands and there is nothing wrong with them, likely just for newly loomed hands i gather. I guess it's normal procedure.) The bezel was pretty banged up after years of wear. The watch was running good even tho he hadnt had a service for ages. Ofcourse he had the movement serviced itself, now. The watch is about approx. ~2000 euro? value, the service cost+shipping it back was just shy of 1000 euros. He brought it in himself whilst in Germany, and they send a package back after about 6 months. With all the replaced parts neatly bagged. Charged him for that too. It looks good, but it doesnt run to the same standard as it did before. Now he does not want to ship it back to Germany and not have it for another 6 months for a mistake they made and took them over 6 months to make. He still wears it tho, he likes the damn thing. So he decided he rather loses more than a few minutes per week. I think he went from between half a minute to a minute to like 7-8 minutes a week now. But if it was up to me i'd be scared to buy a Sinn if this is how it goes.... Which I also felt was odd as German made products in general don't do all the work and then not make sure it is running good. Perhaps it happened during shipping even tho it didn't look banged up at all and was packaged well. Now I think of it perhaps there is a mismatch somewhere mechanicly with the replaced parts and the old parts in there. But then again they had it for 6 months, i'd figure that wouldve been enough time to run and test it for a while and make sure it runs good. Odd timing as that Breitling Navitimer watch is the only Breitling 'design' *wink* watch that I actually like, and was pretty stoked about Sinn releasing it, as we also have a catalogue Sinn book and apart from only a few models that have a certain attraction due to their simplicity and yet boldness I found quite a few models to be somewhat 'filler' models like so many watch companies do these days; a little bit of that, a little bit of this but losing every inch of identity within that watch. Watches like the 903, U1, U2 are just great, but if you'd give me a 556, 103, 356, 140, 142, 144, 756,757 I would trade them in. Im still in debate over the 900 and some 104 and 105's...

I had my U1 last year for standard service after 12 years of constant wearing. I bring it to the HQ in Frankfurt. It took 5 month and costs 290€. The U1 ist actually worth more than that...they changed a lot of parts, plus the crown and the hands.

Sounds like it may have gotten magnetized. This is common in watches I ve gotten from overseas, as they seem to like to X-ray small packages coming to the US. A quick visit to any local watchmaker can check and resolve this. I eventually bought my own demagnetizer.
