the really crazy thing was how often Sinner and Medvedev played each other Federer v. Nadal played 40 times over a span of 15 years, so that's 2.66 per year Nadal v. Djokovic played each other 60 times over 18 years, so that's 3.33 per year Federer v. Djokovic played 50 times over a span 14 years, so that's 3.57 per year This is like a heatmap for when both players are playing well - they play each other more often, because to play each other at all, they have to be consistently reaching late stages of tournaments. (obviously ranking number messes with the metric, so its a bit simplistic) Sinner v. Djokovic have played 8 times over 3 years, so that's 2.66 Alcaraz v. Medvedev have played 8 times over 4 years, so thats 2.0 Sinner v. Alcaraz have played 10 times over 3 years, so that 3.33 Sinner v. Medvedev have played 15 times over 5 years, so thats 3.0 (not including Riyadh in any of the above stats) and we could probably assume that somewhere around 3 is the norm. So the heatmap heats up as you get closer to the player's prime years, if both players are prime in that period. Sinner v. Medvedev, from 2023 to 2024, have played 11 times over 2 years. 5.5 per year for comparison, we have Federer v. Djokovic, 2009 - 2012, played 19 times. that's 4.75 Federer v. Nadal, 2007 - 2009, played 15 times. that's 5.0 Djokovic v. Nadal, 2007 - 2009, played 20 times. that's 6.6 and... Federer v. Djokovic, 2014 - 2015, played 14 times. that's 7.0

Daniil simply cannot play offensive tennis. It’s out of his character and skin. The unforced errors count screams inconsistency and unclutchness. Sinner didn’t have to do much and go inventive about his game, just to make the ball over the net for Daniil to do the job eventually. He has to find the right balance between his true self and to make the corresponding adjustments to stay competitive with Carlos and Yannik, who are pretty much the only guys forcing Daniil to go for those drastic changes in his game. He has to figure things out. The silver lining for Daniil would be his serve today, where he at least didn’t make any double faults since forever!
@cleb480212 сағат бұрын
could not agree more, it really felt this year like he was pressing the ball so much and that's not really his strong suit at all in my opinion. I feel like he'd be so competitive if he stuck to his guns a little more. I get he's trying to reinvent and evolve as a player but it looks as though it's taking away from what makes him so effective from the baseline in the first place, consistency and accuracy. but I will trust that their team knows what their doing and will find a way to return to form in 2025 like he's done so many times.
@marchvertochko005611 сағат бұрын
@@cleb4802you hit the spot with that comment. It’s so annoying seeing Daniil struggling with returning the serve of Yannik in the first serve as the Yannik 1st serve win % was literally 100%. Once he adjusted his position to his old one, he started to make more balls back challenging Sinner. He just have to find that middle ground without taking away his identity and what he’s known for. He could build his game around being more defensive focused with a particular focus on precision and right placement to draw those errors off the opponents. He would also wear down his opponents, but now he seems to be making those changes realising the balls do not give him much of an advantage when he’s playing he way he’d play 2/3 years ago. Hopefully the coaching staff indeed knows what they are doing and be working on the proper execution tactics to beat the top-tier opponents like Carlos and Yannik

ah, although I play Tennis now(as a 4.0+ player) I used to play Table Tennis for long time. I play both of the sports for at least 7 years. I have feel like the Tennis match is becoming BORING( or is it always boring?) a bit. when it is rallying: there is only 2 things to do. 1. move your opponent by pushing the balls further from them 2. make drop shots 3. go to the net, which is rare, but ok what else can you do? slice don't make much difference, it just mess with the tempo, never seen a pro player can't return a slice. what else? the match is becoming boring. And for Serve in Tennis, the pattern is usually same. First Serve is Flat, Second is Kick or Slice. 99% of the variation is the location. While table tennis have much more strategy than Tennis, because the spin mean a lot than Tennis. Just talking about serve, there is at least 10 ways of serving, long/ shot, sneak, fast, slow. The key of Table Tennis is Variation, so it is more fun, you got 100 styles of player. But Tennis is usually just 3 4 types of players. The key of Tennis is Consistent. Usually people who is more consistent won more. Djov, Medv, Sinner. I still like Tennis, don't get me wrong. I just feel like the match is a bit boring now. I don't know why Table Tennis is not so popular is the US. definitely it is popular in Euro, but that is another topic.

Medvedev just can't win a big tournament by being so predictable at this stage of his career. He doesn't even bother to come to the next. His volley game is absolutely zero. His serve is also not doing the magic these days. The only way Medvedev is going to get past sinner or Novak or even Carlos is by adding net play and volleying to his game.against a player like sinner He just can't sit on the baseline hoping for a short ball or a mistake from the opponent. He has to unpredictable to atleast make a game out of it. Even sinner improved his serve and net game. He was always a deadly baseliner. Just that he improved his ground strokes , worked on his serve and net game and see what a beast he has turned out to be. Almost 12000 points in a season is a humongous achievement. For that matter even Sascha has worked on his forehand a bit. Even though his volleying is still awful but it works for him fine. If zverev somehow ups his net game he can become the same level with sinner alcaraz and Novak in the next season. His serve and backhand still being one the best on the tour. He has a really great chance of winning his first slam next season

Sinner and Fritz are waiting for their opponents for the Semifinals, who will they be? I say Ruud and Alcaraz. Alcaraz will bt Zverev 6-3, 6-3. And Ruud will bt Rublev 6-4, 6-4 to top his group.

Now zverev will try to avoid sinner by beating alcaraz at any cost....if zverev tops his group he will avoid sinner...and sinner can play any one of alcaraz, ruud and rublev if rublev beats ruud depending on calculations....

Sinner's play is so boring it reminds me that of Djokovic. Ofc is the right play if you want to win titles etc but if you are not a fanboy of anything other than the game itself it's simply not fun to watch.

You just dont know about tennis if you consider such pace and clean ballstriking boring to watch

Explain how Sinner is clearly doping. Show your credentials for making that claim and the evidence that led you to that conclusion. Or stfu. Also, listen to Meddy's press conference afterwards. He has no problem personally with Sinner.

Medvedev vs Sinner really sums up what i find so boring sometimes in modern tennis: defensive play, baseline bang bang... I wish courts weren't slowed down that much.
@Stu495839 сағат бұрын
I find "baseline bang bang" a whole lot more entertaining than the 90s style of serve and volley with avg rally of 2 or 3 shots.
