Awesome vid as always Michael. I hope it sounds that good through an amp. I'm going to wait til the next version, I bought the Scream Honey and 3 n5's [N5, N5+, N5+3D GOLD] in a row, so I'll have to settle for my awesome Friedman Smallbox as my Marshall pedal. EDIT: the more times I watch this vid, the more I'm leaning towards getting one, just to have one because it's fkn badass and Michael truly pulls out all the tones better/deeper than anyone else will. He's interested in us hearing all it can do. Michael we love what you do for us, many thanks to your tweaking fingers, your professional ear, and excellent playing. Wu did build a killer here.

There’s other Marshall’s im a box I’m sure you know that. Tons of them. Weehbo jvm800, Bearfoot dyna red hot. The Angry Charlie’s, the MI audio crunch, the Carl Martin plexi but this one looks and sounds amazing. I love the toggles and all the things on the front. I need them. It makes things interesting. Oh and the Friedman be deluxe. Two channels. Lower gain and higher gain like the BE amp.
@b.scottfarthingsworth2 жыл бұрын
@@Utube-s8m You're preaching all you know to the choir, but thank you for the reply. Bearfoot is a muddy midrange box. The Angry Charlie gets halfway there, the Crunch Box gets a bit further, yet both are limited. Weebo got a little better, but I'd still take the Friedman Smallbox over any of those. The PlexiTone gets a bit further and sounds really great. But this Sinvertek pedal stomps them. Depending on the vid publisher, they all sound ok/good on a video, but the real test is playing through them in person, and then you get the FEEL and you feel how it reacts under your playing. So that is comparing a pedal to a pedal. Then, with this MGAT you have all those glorious switches to finely tweak and fine tune your tone. NOW, multiply that by 4. Four different amp tones, that are all infinitely tweakable. And, they all sound F'N great. So those other Marshall's in a box, can go back to school and learn how to add these feature to their designs and then maybe they could compete. Today, they don't.

That's almost more "Marshall" than an all tube Marshall. I've never understood why Marshall doesn't make pedals like this. You would think they'd sell like hotcakes since so many use pedals for their dirt these days. Granted, I'm assuming this is jfet & they would never go through the trouble of biasing by ear as I'm guessing this is.
@darwinsaye2 жыл бұрын
To my ears, it sounds the IRs are doing most of the heavy lifting in getting that beefy “Marshall” sound. When you played without the IR, and again when you played into the effects return, and then the front of the amp, I honestly didn’t think it sounded any more impressive than something like a Tech21. However, for recording it would totally eliminate the need to buy an actual Marshall amp, so that is impressive.

Since elite presenters like yourself and Euge Valovirta are using reactive load devices with a variety of impulse response (I.R.) simulators, it seems like amp reviews are not really presenting an accurate presentation of how the amp will actually sound in the home of the person buying it, especially given the fact that now most amps are bought online based upon KZbin videos like yours. Any comments on this issue?
@BigHairyGuitars2 жыл бұрын
Hi, yes. I would disagree. If I have an amp, run it through my 4x12 (a nice Marshall 1960 with 20w British greenbacks that sounds awesome), then I mic it up with SM57 + Royer121, and run it through my API preamps, into Apogee Symphony converters, in my studio, in an isolated cabinet room so I can turn the amp up an any volume. This is not uncommon if you happen to have a professional level studio. But most people (myself -at. home- included) cannot turn an amp up past 1.5. If I have a preamp, then I need to run it through a power amp, my favorite is a late 80’s VHT 2150 (very hard to find now, and they’re crazy priced), then through that big recording chain. What is the lowest common denominator of gear that people can relate to. A Fender HotRod? It’s a perfectly fine amp, but I out of the 25-50 guitar players I know, only 1 has a Fender HotRod. A Mesa Rectifier perhaps, but then through what cab? We’re back to the cab / mic / preamp / signal chain problem. I intentionally spent most of the time with the pedal direct into my interface, a moderately priced high quality interface, and applied an IR that is easily available ($39 for the TwoNotes software, $10 for the Alien ‘white’ cab). I showed all of the settings. Someone could get the exact sound that I’m playing through. Mic’d up cab, no way. There are SO many variable in the signal path. It’s fun, and it sounds great, but the signal path and room have a really big effect on the sound. Some people have said that an iPhone recording in a room is the most accurate. There’s something pleasing about those recordings, because they have massive amounts of compression, and EQ in the phone processing. They can make a tiny practice amp sound as good as a $4000 Botique setup. There’s really just no way to cover everything. I was watching a RJ Ronquillo video yesterday, and though. OH, I haven NO idea what he’s running through. He doesn’t say, IR? Cab? No clue. I’m not sure it matters, if I got that same amp, I’d certainly not sound like him with his guitar. I have to think about this more. Thanks for asking.

The n5+ doesn't work like this as a preamp. I tried, and it sounded like any other good amp-in-a-box pedal (trying to be a preamp). It was a little lacking. The MGAT-1 is a legit sounding solid state Marshall preamp. As a pedal the other n5+ pedals are great. Very natural amp-like drive. The n5+ is more in the Soldano territory of gain.
