Thanks - my dad has just bought one and I couldn't figure out how to change the height of the blade down from the maximum - I ended up rushing to turn it off then twist the thing! Packing up is a good idea. I've just purchased the 4 way splitter for it - seems it should speed up the work on the easier logs.

Great video, I wonder if you ever use the side shelves ? Looks like the arms would just get in the way ?

I have the Handy 6 tonne version of this machine, operatred for the last 3 years. The splitter not going down fully to the table IS NOT AN ISSUE. I process about 15 tonnes a year and use this machine for many days. Speed could be faster but the limit rod is a absolute necessity.Power to split is okay, some of the rounds were 5 foot (yes feet) across that I split with a maul to 50 kilo lumps I could pick up, rounds of up to 2 foot or so go straight on the splitter. The table is suffering some damage as a lot of the wood is highly tension an splits with a bang throwing the wood and the table off the machine (breaking the retaining pin in the process of course.(you should not really be splitting wood like this- its bloody dangerous). Other than that a highly reccomended machine absolutely reliable and remember a petrol engined version has to be 50% more powerful than the rated power of an electic machine as motors are quite happy to allow overload to at least 50-75% of their rated power. I converted the double handed safety device to a single handed unit as its much quicker and SAFER to operate!! IF a log goes bang as it splits your face is directly above it with the istalled two handed feature currently fitted ao comply with EU lack of safety rules. The unit is very quiet - just put it on a level surface so the table and guards dont vibrate as shown in this video

Hi mate, hope you're well. I have the same splitter and I want to do exactly what you did and covert to one handed operation. Might I ask how you accomplished that? Would you have a link to a picture or a video of that set up? I'm a welder so have no problem with making some sort of new mechanism but I have zero experience with hydraulics. As you say, the two handed mechanism is a bit dangerous and I want to make the table a bit larger to accommodate bigger logs and get rid of the annoying side arms. Any help you could give me would be greatly appreciated.

I have an old one of vertical 7 ton SIP machines. My comments are: it is stupid not going all the way down, as I need to split on a block so it does, and it is a bit slow. Otherwise for domestic use it does the job and is reasonably powerfully.

Looks like a not bad machine, would be interesting to see how it copes with some well seasoned knotty oak
@CalvinThomas055 жыл бұрын
Hi David. Yeah it looks like a well made machine. I think it has a fair bit of power by the slow speed it is going. I will try splitting some old knotty oak in the future and do another review on it. Cheers Calvin

Hi Calvin, how have you found this a year later? I have to say I've never felt comfortable with the body position needed (groin and face so close to the action) did you get on ok with it or did you make some adjustments to the set up?
@donalfinn42054 жыл бұрын
I have a 7 ton splitter but if I’m splitting dry logs, when the pressure comes on, the log explodes which I don’t like at all and body protection is essential.

Did you find a way round this? Looking to adapt mine or add a cage as its lethal!

think this could be hacked up to make a decent forging press ? can you see a way to make the handles work from a foot for instance ? also i could put an anvil on the table and forge to the anvil gets passed the gap issue ?

Must admit I'd feel safer with a horizontal machine where your well clear of the action. I think your too close to the wood with this model.

I'm not impressed with mine, Sip have had it back under warranty for over 3 weeks now as the plastic shims kept falling out of the guide area. Poorly built if you ask me, most likely chinese
@CalvinThomas053 жыл бұрын
Hi Atom. Yes I had that happen to a sealey one I owned before this one. Yes I think most of these are the cheaper Chinese that's the trouble these days its hard to find quality. To be fair up until now my shims have stayed in my machine ok. Cheers, Calvin
