Sip It or Skip It: Penelope Barrel Strength

In this video I will review Penelope Barrel Strength and let you know if I will sip on it until the bottle is gone and buy it again or if I will skip buying it once the bottle is gone and replace it with something else.

I've been teaching for 28 years so I hope I'm good. I treat every year as my first year. Penelope Barrel Strength is good. I just prefer the Toasted and Architect more. Cheers!

I fully agree with you guys on this one. It is a little hot but it’s tasty. I’m a big fan of Penelope, but this is my least favorite. if you happen to get a hold of the light whiskey 100% corn that was aged 18 years in bourbon barrels, it’s freaking insane.

Nice job! I have a small office in my shop that’s 5ft x 9ft and I’ll have a 1 to 1.5oz pour and let it set on my desk for 10-15 minutes with the door closed and when I walk back in I usually get a lot of nice aromas!

It has been a while since I reached for the Architect, but if I recall it was my favorite of the Penelope.

There is a batch 17 near me for $60. I always describe bourbon as a “10 lane highway” with each lain representing a flavor note and typically only a sub portion of lanes are utilized with each lane acting at different intensities. But it’s pretty much always the same “10/or subset” of 10 flavors that we spot in bourbon over and over. Scotch. Scotch though, for me, has dozens and dozens and dozens of lanes and every scotch will occupy some subset of lanes.

I love the Penelop BS. I have a store pick of it too. I have tried all of their offerings except the newest rye toasted. I did not like the Rio or Valencia. I like the Architect and have a store pic that I am looking forward to opening tomorrow when friends come over. The Tokaji and Rose barreled are great too.

@@whiskeyisajourney Just so you're aware. The original Toasted was bourbon. After the buy out, MGP switched it to rye, which is now in some stores. I liked the Toasted so well I bought a back up. I love rye so a rye toasted sounds great. Wanted 1 bottle fall back on. RY3 is made in Va Bch, secondary casking only, no idea who produces the aged rye. Their toasted in really great. Not sure if its made its way out west yet.

Hey I loved hearing Mary Bridget mentioned my recommendation to try the Lagavulin 16!! Please try it!! This Penelope was a bit rough for me. Very hot. Like Mary Bridget I didn't think it would be this hot on nosing. Skip it!! Hugs to you two!! Wish I was heading out on the BBQ trips!! 🙂

I personally like the Penelope Architect. I also think you can't go wrong with any of them. Just go for the bottle that's under $60

If you can, find the white label, which is their 80 or 90 proof if the BS scares you. In my humble opinion it's one of the few sb's I enjoy because it tastes like the cask strength.
