Sir Anthony Hopkins celebrated 47 years of sobriety and offered a supportive message to people sturggling with alcohlism and addiction.
The Oscar-winning star of The Silence of the Lambs posted a video message on Instagram and wished people a happy New Year with a reassuring message.

Congratulations Sir! I am soon to be 4 years sober in March and at 35 years old, I returned to education to do a degree in Law & Criminology....drinking is more dangerous to health than you realise and if I hadn't nearly bled out internally from organ failure and quit there and then......I wouldn't be writing this........

It's been hard as hell at times to stay off booze; holiday season especially has made it hard. Giving myself kindness being the hardest part for sure in the process. Doing it, starting 2/15/2020 has been quite the ride. Oddly, during a pandemic it made it easier. Getting used to the stronger emotional responses across the board I've had, and reconnecting with people including myself? That's also hard but I'm still doing it on my own. 2 slip-ups, but pretty small comparatively. Both times it didn't work. Just made me feel shitty and left me with a horrible headache. Lesson learned so I find it still to be a win. Don't let people put you down; least of all YOURSELF. Congratulations to Anthony. 47 years successfully sober is a long long time for a person and quite the achievement.

I agree with everything you say....especially with the pandemic...I just found that because everyone was in lockdown that it was almost like the world had been grounded and you didnt have people coaxing you out to bars and clubs!

@@Hodgeyp3 Never was one for bars exactly but I lost my open mic nights and playing music with people. That hurt. But we all lost that. My close friend who hosted it was burned out and wanted out however so...I understood later. Good on him for doing that, getting sober himself also, and becoming an EMT. His brother is my bff. We re-connected after that fateful evening (bit of a falling out with both of them really) when I realized I needed to stop drinking or face a really awful life...or death really I suppose. Either way things are mostly back to "normal" but...is that really applicable to say for us all? Guess we're all just transcending. We go from here haha.

Many many old people also get bullied "Sir" Anthony. In retirement homes for example. They don`t count? You always address young pleople. What`s wrong with you? Other tha that I admire you and you inspire despite me being 24 years sober and already 62 yo.

Just thought you might need to hear this; I finally was talked into going to AA from a counselor that I had during a court ordered session with alcohol counseling indefinitely until I was cleared by the counselors for a drunken spree, I did..... And... it was what helped me..... I didn't feel comfortable at first and found speaker meetings easier.... but kept going.... I now have friends from there who like to do things and stay sober, and my life is better than it ever was, no matter what happens, it is better, and I am happier and at peace. Love to you! (I also got let off of having to go to counseling, lol.... after months, which I did learn a lot there too).
