Marriner's legacy with the Academy of St. Martin in the Fields is one of the most famous and incredible collaborations in recording history. Not only did they record the most recordings with one conductor and orchestra in history, but their incredible musical talent and ability to keep in time, in key and keep the elegance of quieter pieces. Of course, Marriner didn't just conduct the Academy of St. Martin in the Fields, for a time he conducted the Los Angeles Symphony Orchestra, Minnesota Symphony Orchestra, Stuttgart Radio Symphony Orchestra, New York Chamber Orchestra, Gulbenkian Orchestra, Israel Chamber Orchestra, Australian Chamber Orchestra and the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra. Marriner recorded over 600 recordings covering 2,000 different works, ranging from late Renaissance to the works of Philip Glass. He recorded prominently for Argo, L'Oiseau Lyre, Philips, and EMI Classics. During the 1980-90s, Marriner recorded almost 300 recordings for Philips Classics, a sub-label for Philips. These made international acclaim, and in 1985 he was appointed Commander of the British Empire, and the Academy of St. Martin in the Fields became one of the world's best-known orchestras, and one of the best in history. During the Philips Classics period, Marriner recorded many of the works of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, ranging from symphonies to operas, serenades and sacred works. All these were brought together in 1991 when the Complete Mozart Edition was released, a 45 volume CD series that, when put together, compiled Mozart's complete works. The total number of CDs was 180, with the amount in each box set ranging from 1 to 12, the highest amount. In the latter part of the Philips Classics period, he also recorded a large amount of the works of Bach and Handel, which included a 9 CD box set of Bach's complete orchestral works, which included the Brandenburg Concertos, Orchestral Suites, violin concertos, oboe concertos and the keyboard concertos. Another ground breaking Baroque recording was that of Handel's Water Music and Music for the Royal Fireworks suites, which was originally released on Argo, then once again Philips Classics. During his lifetime, Marriner's other Handel recordings were sold world-wide, such as The Messiah, the complete Concerti Grossi, Op. 6 and Op. 3, Judas Maccabaeus, the organ concertos, and the complete ballet suites, that includes music from Alcina, Ariodante and Almira. Marriner was also famous for his musical collaborations, with some of the world's best soloists. These people included Iona Brown, Klaus Thunemann, Joshua Bell, Peter Damm, Jacqueline du Pre, and Irena Grafenauer. Probably the most famous and longest collaboration was with Austrian pianist, poet and composer Alfred Brendel, with whom Marriner recorded works such as Mozart's complete piano concertos, Beethoven's complete piano concertos, Rachmaninoff's complete piano concertos and Prokofiev's complete piano concertos. Brendel also recorded solo for Philips Classics, recording Beethoven's piano sonatas, Bach keyboard partitas, and Handel's keyboard suites. Marriner was really brought to the world's attention in 1984, with the release of Milos Forman's film Amadeus. Marriner was approached by Forman, and was asked to record the soundtrack to Amadeus, which was mainly the music of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Marriner said yes and recorded it with the Academy of St. Martin in the Fields. It became one of the most popular classical music recordings of all time, and has now sold over 6.5 million copies worldwide. Unfortunately, on 2 October 2016, we lost a life that was cherished so much in the musical world. Sir Neville Marriner died in Chardstock, Devon. When asked for epitaph on his gravestone, he replied simply "Follow The Beat". He died at the age of 92.

Sir Marriner had a graceful style while conducting with his hand language emphasising the timing of resonance for each instrumental group. RIP Sir Marriner.

I was leader of the RAM Chamber Orchestra the frst year he was conductor there - such a nice man. Good, very good but not hard. He could have destroyed confidence but only, instead, built confidence ... and respect. Thank you Sir Neville.

Sir Neville Marriner is one the greatest interpreters of Mozart's music in the history of recording and performing. Without his landmark recordings used in the film Amadeus the film would have been alot poorer as a result.

I had the great pleasure of seeing Sir Neville conduct the Academy at the Garden State Arts Center in July of 1987. Mozart's Haffner, Mendelssohn's Italian, and Prokofiev's Classical. The performance was simply stunning under unbearable heat and humidity. Truly professional in every sense.

The BEST driving music. Calming. My former wife despised it. 😂 So I would lower the volume to almost inaudible. She never knew it. No drama.😂😂😂

Best interpretation of Mozart’s works is by Sir Neville Marriner, not only conducting, but feeling what the composer want to represent from the notes. Just like Herbert Von Karajan with Beethoven, and Karl Richter with J.S. Bach
