Oh yes, SHINee was intended to be an r&b group, reminiscent of the 90s boy groups when they debuted. Their r&b ballads with Jonghyun's incredible vocals were signature of SHINee in the earlier years. I'd say that after Sherlock they started to change their style and experiment, and then View happened and that lavish house music style defined them for some years afterwards.

SHINee's "Romantic" performance was an MNet MCountdown music program stage as part of a comeback performance, so at that time MCountdown used to have groups compete head to head against each other for the win. So SHINee was competing against F.T. Island. (The other group you saw standing there watching SHINee's performance.) This MCountdown performance was extra special because it was SHINee's first win on the show and they beat F.T. Island, a senior group who is also known for their powerful vocals. So it was a big deal and the SHINee members cried after this show. The main singer of FT Island, HongKi, is known for having one of the best rock vocals in the industry. You might have noticed that at one point you saw HongKi shaking his head, because at that point he could tell that his group had lost. :D F.T. Island (Five Treasure Island) used to be a 5 member Kpop Rock band under FNC Entertainment. Not only does F.T. Island sing but they play their own instruments. F.T. Island debuted in 2007, a year before SHINee and they are still in the industry today. However, 2 members of F.T. Island left the group a couple of years ago, so they currently only have 3 member. The members of F.T. Island and SHINee are all around the same age. You should really look up a full clip of this performance to see the full competition and to hear F.T. Island's performance. F.T. Island didn't lose because their performance was bad, I think you will be impressed with them as well. SHINee just happened to be the audience's favorite that day.

Early SHINee is soooo R&B!! I love it!! And key shines so much in Romantic, it immediately became one of my very top favorites.

SHINee's performance of "SHINee World" is from their very first SHINee World concert tour in 2010/2011 so Taemin is about 17/18 here. And that is why you may notice they have the same style and look from their "Lucifer" MV. SHINee's nicknames come from the rap section in their "The SHINee World (Doo-Bop)," which is commonly referred to as Minho's Dibidibidis rap. In the rap Minho says: (Dibidibidis) Bling Bling is Jonghyun (Dibidibidis) our powerful Taemin (Dibidibidis) the only tofu is Onew (Dibidibidis) SHINee’s Almighty and All-knowing, Key (Dibidibidis) The charismatic flame, Minho (i.e. Flaming Charisma). Lee Jinki was given the stage name Onew because of his soft and gentle personality. Onew is a combination of the Korean characters that mean or sound like soft and gentle, which in the rap they compare to tofu. So, Onew's nickname has become "the tofu leader" or "our tofu leader". Jonghyun is "Bling Bling Jonghyun" because they say he has always sparkled with talent. Key is "the almighty Key" who opens all the doors in the industry. Taemin is "Powerful Taemin." And Minho is "Flaming Charisma Minho," which comes from the fact that he is super passionate about everything he does and he has a need to always win, he won't quit until he is the winner. :D And just so you know, this was one of Minho's very first raps, and it was one of the only raps that was NOT wrote by him. The rap was wrote by one of their managers and SM thought it was funny so they added it to the song. But Minho and the other members always thought the rap was super embarrassing, and up until a few years ago -- after performing it several times during their early years -- they refused to ever perform it again. However, in the last few years, Minho has said he is starting to see its charm and he finds it kind of nostalgic, so whenever someone asks him to perform it he doesn't find it quite as cringgy anymore. Yes the lyrics of this song refer to the other songs on this album. For example, the lyrics "Noona, you’re so pretty" is referring to SHINee's debut song "Replay," that is why they say, "With this song I immediately Start." And the line, "Again, with you’re like oxygen," is referencing their song "Love Like Oxygen," which is the second track on their The SHINee World album, etc.

big agree, best place best b-side, four seasons close second (I prefer the original version of in my room, but this remix was really pretty too). i totally agree about the production of recent kpop, which is part of the reason why onew's comeback stages being so noticeably live was so refreshing! listening to baby shinee is so fun bc their voices are all so good already, but it also helps me appreciate how much they've improved

I agree with you about the shift in the industry. Kinda feel bad bcs it must be so preassuring for the recent artists :( Idk about others bcs I only followed SHINee, but recently, for this DICE mini album, Onew clearly show his live performance for his promotion in music show like this one in Romantic performance. He explicitly said for On The Way and Yeowoobi performamce, he did it live real time while the broadcast was on air. As an older shawol, this album hits me in the nostalgia lol. I agree that other more recent albums have better quality in their lyrics, line distribution and overall performance of the guys, because naturally the evolved too. But The SHINee World is the first full album I listened to and it's because of the r&b sound and vocals that I fell in love with them, so it has a special place in my heart. And it has the holy trinity of Romantic, In My Room and Best Place! The best SHINee songs to ever exist! So thank you for your honesty about everything and taking the time to listen to it.

Wheesung is a famous rnb Korean soloist (Insomnia is probably his most famous song in the west, and Jonghyun does a WICKED parody of that on occasion in their early days) and sunbaenim and Minho started writing his own raps very early on, so he has a lot of writing credits in the songs.

Omg an hour of SHINee from you? Yesssss!!! Thanks for this!! I'm still amazed by how great their vocals (especially Jinki, Jonghyun, and Key) were at this young of an age. Lots of people (and SHINee guides) praise Jonghyun for his lyric writing (as they should, he's amazing) but many also fail to see that Minho, at international age 16, has writing credits on their DEBUT album.. yes, he didn't write the main melodies and stuff, he wrote the raps, but that's still a feat that he got those lyrics approved by SM for those songs. SHINee was originally supposed to be a rap group then they debuted as a contemporary R&B group and they were supposed to be experimental and I'm glad they have found their sound through the years. There's one song on the first Replay EP that didn't get carried over to the SHINee World album and its called "Real" if you want to check it out. It's pretty upbeat too. In My Room is originally sung by Jinki, Jonghyun, and Key but they did an OT5 version of it live in 2013 if you want to check that out too, it's great. Love Should Go On was also in the Replay EP and didn't make it into the SHINee World album but then get put in a remix for the Amigo repackage. There are other songs in the Amogo repackage too that you haven't heard. Maybe you can do an Amigo repackage + Real reaction next to cover the other songs so you know you won't have missed any? I have requested before a Love Should Go On + Love Still Goes On reaction in the comments when you asked for Minkey raps. Love Still Goes On is in their 2nd album Lucifer and they did a combo of Love Should Go On and Love Still Goes On at SWC4 that I love. Odd/MTTM is my favorite album and I usually have difficulty picking favorites of anything. I think it's because it was at such a turning point in their career with how much freedom they got and the variety of songs in Odd/MTTM is nice and has several of my most favorite SHINee songs. TMI :I want to introduce SHINee to my younger sister so we can both stan them. She checked their Instagram accounts and said " They don't have much followers when compared to... I think they are not popular I guess, i am not gonna listen to them" that's how things are now a days... How these numbers can explain what journey they have, the struggles, the happiness, the talent and the tears. Older groups are much more to explain... Much more to understand...much more to appreciate! Even am 25... I love/ relate to only SHINee. SHINee gives positive vibes....all the songs are soulful! I think this performance of "Graze" was from SHINee's first Japanese tour in the beginning of 2011. So they were doing this choreography since 2010/2011, not quite 2008. Although this was a song on their first album from 2008, I don't think they performed this song before this concert. Therefore, the chair choreography with this "Graze" performance could be a little newer than 2008. However, you are right, they did have chair choreography, with their song "Love Like Oxygen", which was a comeback song from 2008, so they did perform that chair choreography back then. :D Taemin was a pretty good singer at this point, it was only the first few years where he struggled as a singer, but by the time he was 17, which is when this concert was, he wasn't known as the bad singer that he once was. You have to take into consideration that just because these songs were from their first album, doesn't mean all these live performances were done at that same time. This concert was about 3 years after their debut. If you notice, the look they have at this concert is from their "Hello" MV, which was released at the end of 2010. (You can tell what era their live performances are from if you just remember what they looked like during most of their MVs.) However, the radio performances were part of their promotions for the album so they were from 2008, hence why they look like babies and they have the same look and style from their "Replay" MV, etc.

We live in kwangya - 2022remix lol🤣 The live stages then were literally something else. I am so glad Onew chose reality for his music show appearances for dice. We could clearly listen his breath, his lyric mistakes etc. So proud to be his fan. As a fan who joined SHINee world in 2018 it completely bewilders me how everyone else debuted with concepts like aliens, superpowers, clones etc. And then there's SHINee , our obsessive young lovers. SM really experimented with them. Like how was this group supposed to be debuted as rappers but their first album is filled with ballads..

I was a teenager in the 80s, I totally agree with your view there. You're such a mood, I want to go ditto all the time. You can pace your album reactions but you'll find there are always gems on every album (Korean or Japanese). They do have songs I don't need to hear occasionally, mostly because I don't like the genre of song, even while they do a good job portraying it, but that's about it. And live SHINee manages to make me like some of those, too. TL,DR - you will never feel like you have wasted your time, whenever you find time for SHINee music.

we love this weird unorganized spontaneous album reaction! No need to apologize for your personal opinion and comments though haha. We get it. I think SM made them focus especially on their noona fans during their early days. SHINee were still young here and they were still trying to find their color. But their talent, determination and passion are seeping through their every performance. This album makes me feel nostalgic all the time because hearing this makes me think of what SHINee boys had been through to get to where they are now. Hi Austin, ty for the reaction 💕 I understand how you feel, this album is A Lot and definitely prefer their funkier albums, but I do find myself going back to some songs like Graze, In my room and romantic bc they're the classic rnb shinee sound they were going for at the beginning. If you're looking for a shinee album to surprise you, the next one definitely has to be the Odd/Married to the music album! its a whole bunch of genres and it feels like every two songs. the songs arranged differently kid of work more coherently, but in the album's order it slaps you with the change of pace, but it's a fun experience!!

i really love the SHINee World album, it's so nostalgic and idk i just always feel so good listening to it, however i understand if its not everyones taste. Also i felt that way the first time i heard this album, i thought i wouldnt listen to it that much because the genre wasnt my thing, but even in 2022 i never skip the songs and i just hold so much love for it.

i remember my first time listening to this album more than a decade ago, and also thinking like you did - that all these tracks sound very similar. but nevertheless, all very pretty R&B ballads and so i downloaded all of them into my mp3. after so many years of knowing these songs (not my go-tos for sure, but i do come across them on shuffle now and then), i have come to appreciate these songs for what they are. watching this whole reaction, i find myself singing to all of these songs and being transported back to those early days of when i first started loving SHINee. it's all so surreal, time really passes by so fast.

I loved loved loved this album when it came out. I still do random listens to the whole thing a few times every year. Baby SHINee were amazing and they got even more amazing as time passed. And yes to the live performances back then. I mean, back then, they used to perform in music shows live in real time, not like all the prerecorded stuff nowadays. That's why at the ending part where they announce winners, everyone's all sweating and out of breath because they literally just performed! Sad that it barely ever happens anymore.

Thanks for your reaction! I relate to your opinion about this album a lot. It has some really nice ballads and vocals - my fav song is Romantic, but I would rather choose my retro-disco-synth Shinee songs to vibe through the day c:

What is amazing is how SHINee was able to portray such mature emotions at such a young age. I think they commited to the delivery of their emotions to show the auidence to how serious they were about music. Also they had limited opinion in their music direction in the beginning and had to make it work with what they were told to do. They did great for their age.

I like this reaction as it is... and yes please do Live Performances of songs in your album reactions if they are available. First Album and SHINee just dropped vocals after vocals (after almost debuting as a hiphop/rap/non-vocal centered group). Plus, singing to songs like they had 525 breakups. Thank you.
