Sadowskys and Sires both sound great. The thing that won me over with the Sire was how amazing the neck feels.

The sadowsky seemed to have more output to me, especially mids and treble but as a trade off I heard a lot of fret noise from the sadowsky which really suprised me as it's the more expensive instrument. Both sound great but with budget being a major player for me the sire wins, for me personally.

The Sire sounds great. So does the Sadowsky. The Sadowsky is a bit thicker on the bottom but I really dont think the Sire was EQ'd up like the Sadowsky but that's what the "bass control knob" on the Sire is for and it has PLENTY onboard. I own both. If u can afford a Sadowsky I say go for it. If not, The Sire will not let u down, Trust me. Remember We are talking $1500 vs $4000.

Thanks for sharing, I'm curious why using different preamp settings. If so, I think it's better to do the test separately. Sadowsky has a bass/treb boost only preamp which Sire has cut/boost one. This will make a huge difference if setting both basses the same freq. Like the slap part, bass 70 means 70% boost on Sadowsky and 20% boost on Sire. It's a little misleading, I think.

Ming Qu Thank you for your comments. As you mentioned, Sadowsky and Sire bass's preamp is not the same way (Sadowsky has boost only, Sire has cut/boost). So we've set up a suitable setting for each instrument.If we have a chance, we will do it again in the same setting in Boost Mode.

The Sadowsky definitely has the tonal edge in this demo. But I think the Sire could probably come closer to the Sadowsky's deep but clear tone with a little EQ adjustment. Considering that the Sadowsky is probably over $1,000 more expensive than the Sire, I think the Sire is pretty damn good. However I'd skip the cosmetically over-the-top V9 and just go for a simple V7 or V7 Vintage. It's basically the same bass without the pretend flamed top and bling at an excellent price point.

The sadowsky sounds better than sire in my opinion. I own a sire v9 though and I can attest that it is a quality instrument. The pre amp is amazing on the sire and for the price of 700 you can’t go wrong

important note, the Sadowsky in this video is a metro yoshi japan Sadowsky. I have a 2 Sadowsky NYC, have more acoustic resonance and the tone is more open than metro Sadowsky,, ok,, but one of my Sadowsky price is $8500 and the other $9925. My friend have a Sire V9 $899 ,, Sire is not better than Sadowsky metro and ever than SadowskyNYC,,, But i say again, all Sire jazz bass line are the best, best jazz bass for the price. I recomended the Sire V10, is amazing bass , and for the price is the best option. Sire v9 and v10 the 2 basses are amazing jazz bass.

Those basses have different tone goals in their own design, that seems clear in this demo to me. Put the same pickups in both basses and the same preamp, then evaluate the differences.

Sire has more midrange. Frequencies were explained to me by a sound guy. In this case the mids "arrive to your ears" first. The Sadowsky is more mid scooped sounding which makes the lows and highs "arrive first" to your ears.

I didn't think I would notice that much of a difference, but the Sadowsky really sings. I don't know what the price is on either so not using that in my judgment. The Sadowsky has a richer tone to me.

Not a fair comparisson though. Its always better to compare rosewood vs rosewood and maple vs maple fingerboards. Anyway good review, Id prefer to take the Sire for the price which is 2 or 3 times less than the Sadowsky, and also for the midrange on the Sire.

I hate the mid control on the Sire V7! If you don't take the time to dial it in correctly it really destroys your sound! Now I installed the Sadwosky preamp on all my Sires! Wow! Way way better and always a good sound when plug in!

The preamp settings weren't the same so you're basically comparing apples to oranges. The Sire sounded just as good to me and didn't have the fret buzz the Sadowsky had. For the $3000-$4000 difference in price, I'll take the Sire all day, everyday and twice on Sundays.

I think hard to judge between basses without complete, real instrumented mix... or on stage with full PA, sub and line array the real difference can be heard. Maybe the Sire would be more punchy in this video, but on stage the Sado would be more earthshakin..

I think it depends on what you like. While Sadowsky sounds clean and transparent, Sire has it's own sound, it simply punches through way better. Maybe if soloing is what you do most then sure, Sadowsky wins. I like better the Sire, but that's just my opinion.

I have owned both and still have the Sadowsky (even a second one). While the Sire is a great instrument, it just can't really compete against the Sadowsky. Those internet videos are nice, but it doesn't translate the reality. Playing live a Sadowsky can't be described here. It's is far beyond the Sire in terms of playablility, craftmaship and tone. You just pay for what you get.

Well, once again. Here we have an "UNBALANCED" comparison. The problem to me is, the basses don't have the same "FINGERBOARDS", they don't have the same "WOOD" tops, the Sire has a 4 or 3 band bass preamp, when the "SADOWSKY" probably have a 2 band bass preamp. Not a good comparison. Both basses should have equal preamp bands, same fingerboard woods, same body woods, same nut material, etc. So, I can't tell which one sound the best from two different companies. Thanks for trying. :D

Aaaaaah! 😱 1st,...a 5 string "SIRE" with a "ROSEWOOD" neck. 2nd,...a 5 string Sadowsky Metro,...with a maple neck. You're gonna get (2) different sounds. (PERIOD). Here's another "UNFAIR" comparison. Also,...you had the "SADOWSKY" colored better than the "SIRE". Can you do a Sire with a maple neck and show both basses controls set flat laying side by side? When you pick up one to do the video,...make sure the other bass can be seen in the background ready to be played when you're done with the 1st one?
