Hi , I followed your setup video with great interest, as I faced some (typical) problems during tuning my boomerang ( 10m Alu- mast at my backyard so far). 1. Angle of lower ,,radial,, ( actual it is not a radial, but the second part of radiator for resonance) is critical. Means lots of up and downs for SWR adjustment .... and tuning close to ground is affected by capacity of the ground around you ... so it changes after lifting up = itteratively you reach a result of approx. 1:1,2 .. rarely better 2. Angle between beams heavily affects impedance ( angle 125 degree seems too less for 50 Ohms, tendency is 135 - 140 degrees) 3. Lower beams sits on coax screening potential ( as it would be with a dipole antenna) .... however the aluminum mast sits parallel to this potential, too .. as fixing plate of antenna provides a quite conductive connection. Mast becomes a part of radiator length. May distort resonance ... and I assume, that distortion is increased as lower the resistance of grounding becomes (between mast and surrounding soil). An insulation plate between mast and fixing beam of the boomerang may solve such problem ... What do you think ?? .. would highly appreciate you comments on above 73 de 79HER215 .. In general, 11m resp. 10m QSO from my location to UK seems to have devopped severly negative during last 10 years ( low MUV) ... in ,,old times,, I could easily perform a ,,breakfast chat,, with locations in a sector between Summerset - Birmingham every sunday morning .. using 10 ,,Whiskeys,, only = real QRP conditions. ... so I am forced now to set up a volumineous 4 element shortwave Yagi ... more jungle on my roof ..and I am afraid to attract all regional lightning discharges to my home :-(((

Addition to my previous notes: think of prefering a ground plane with considerably less SWR problems as follows: 1. One vertical beam 1/4lambda sitting on the coax core plus 4 ,,radials,, at an angls of 135 degrees downwards, all 4 sitting on potential of the coax screening. Mounted on a mast ( ideally fibre) but aluminum does job, too. Fixing plate/ screws between all antenna elements and mast solidly insulated (plastic disk 3cm thickness, same between vertical beam and radial array. Easy going regarding feed point as you feed at max. current point, the voltage peaks appear at the end of all elements, i.e. open air 2 Above animal much less sensitive for SWR (small extensions at rhe 4 radials plus angle 135 adjust for 50 Ohm impedance ) and less affected by ground capacitance if tuned ,,at ground,, and afterwards lifted up (telescope mast). 3. Easy to be self made by aluminum tube with 1cm dia = takes 500 Whiskeys. Roughly 2,3m each beam for 11m band, 2m for 10m band to satisfy rule for the 1/4 lambda values 4. Min. Height of radial end points to ground = lambda/4 .. ideal more than 1/2 lambda 73 de 79HER215

Hi there great educational video but I hope you don't mind me asking about the s.w.r. I am assuming that the s.w.r was done at ground level what was the antenna attached to I. E. House, shed, aluminium pole. The only reason is because I have perchanced identical antenna. And what sort of distance are you getting on fm cb thanks for sharing

Hi Michael The SWR set on the ground lots of up and down with the antenna till i got it right. It works very well i chat most days from poole to the isle of wight. I use to have a thunderpole before it snapped in a storm when i put the boomerang up my m8 couldn,t tell the difference on the signal. it works very well

Whats the best way to set the AWR on the Boomerang 27 A antenna? can I just measure 102 inches on the radial and lock in down with the set screw then fine tune with the bottom ground plane radial by moveing it up or down. any info would be a help.

Would u recommend this aerial? My wife don't want a massive antenna in the garden but I have a flat roof do might put it on a pole on the roof.

This might look small but from memory they are around 12ft with a meter radial I think

Hello, i justgot one of these, but it wont work when attached to a 7 meter alloy pole in my garden. i tested all the cable conections which are ok. the only thing ive noticed that the ground of the antenna is connected to the bracket and in my pole is into the ground so is the signal going straight to ground. should i insulate the pole from the ariel

Hi Steve, I mounted mine on a pole that wasn't in the ground just on a 15ft ploe on the side of my shed and brackets it worked fine. I did use a Zetagi MM27 Small matcher to bring the SWR down so i could use it on 10m it seems to work quite well. The only pain was up & downing the antenna when tuning the swr. thanks for getting back, I actually solved the problem just after i messaged you, i put some plastic between the clamp and the pole and it worked straight away. seems like any incoming signal was going straight to ground but once insulated its fine thankx again

I had probulms so i used a small Zetagi MM27 Tuner. I know the probulms up & downing the antenna it's a real pain. But i think the best you can tune it. And even moving the bottom leg helps i found with the tuning.

Hi,It is difficult to find a small discreet cb antenna that works.Not every one wants a huge antenna and antennas like the Signal Keeper and Thunder just don't work!The Boomerang 27A seems to work. I have modified one to take more ground planes.Do you notice the antenna being slightly directional in the direction of the ground plane?
