I agree Alice in chain's unplugged was the best of the unplugged series, Layne Staley's voice is unmatched you got so many bands who came after Layne went on his hiatus who literally owe their whole careers to him and Alice in chains, look at God Smack and Sully there a damn glamorized cover band they took their name from a A.I.C song for Pete's sake. Rotten Apple is so underrated its so amazingly deep. I love Nirvana but A.I.C with Layne Staley or Madseason are my fav bands those songs speak to me.I can relate to Layne on alot of levels granted I never touched heroin but ive seen the damage the needle can do first hand my 5 year old son lost his mom last Xmas, honestly if it wasnt for my current girlfriend I'd probably still be in a dark place and the most beautiful part is we dated 15 years ago and we drifted apart i reached out to see how she was and everything just fell into place it's crazy how life is its beautiful and painful but noone knows what tomorrow will bring.

Funny how I hated Nirvana and the whole genre back in the day. I was a frustrated kid and the 80's thrash was the answer for that and I blamed grunge for, well, whatever I blamed it for (honestly, I can't remember at this moment). As I grew up (now 37) I have learned to appreciate it and perceive it from a whole different perspective. The grunge movement has been so vital to the musical market. Not just as a genre but also the philosophy behind it. I regret not paying more positive attention to it back then, but I guess I had to grow older to be able to understand it and appreciate it.

All of you hating on the interviewer don't seem to be willing to admit he is so right with his first question. R.E.M. suddenly got rough and rocky with Monster while the rock/grunge wave was still alive. And look how they swiftly moved to some Kraftwerk'esque sound on Up. When the Seatlle / hard rock wave was almost a thing to pass towards the end of 90s. Just look how U2's music shifted during 90s, how their "rock music" was more electronic [Zooropa] or less electronic later, closer to 00s - depending on the charts, perhaps. Bands make music to make money. R.E.M. are no exception, and they could sometimes be placed among those bands that are able or trying to get closer to some waves, fashions etc. - ? Anyone remember NIN Starfuckers video ? Have a nice day.

I wish I didn’t have to hear Courtney’s name every time I hear Kurts. She doesn’t deserve that or any of the everything she took from him. Literally. She makes me sick. All she is to me is Kurts biggest mistake in life.

Kurt and Courtney loved each other, no wait they adored each other so much so they got married and had a baby. Kurt was already on drugs before he met Courtney, she did not ruin that mans life he did that all on his own. In many ways he was self destructive, all we saw was what he was outwardly putting out into the world. No one knows what was going on in that mans head, Courtney has every right to be mentioned when Kurt is mentioned because she is such a huge part of his life. It irritates me when people hate on that woman whose only crime is loving Kurt. It’s like when Yoko was blamed for splitting up the Beatles by taking John Lennon away, no they just loved each other.

@@teacupalice Sorry but you are almost completely wrong. After a couple years of researching his case and his life including all the people in it from his family, to the band, friends, other bands, Courtney, the detectives, lawyers, and other people who research the case as well I am firmly confident that she was a poison from the first day she targeted him. Yes Kurt had issues with drugs but he had cleaned up his life for the most part and she was not only a major enabler but in his last months she was actively working against him. Kurt was also going to divorce her which set into motion a horrible and unfortunate series of events that led to his death. Not suicide. But death. Giving details is impossible in a text like this but if you honestly and seriously look deeply into this I’m truly believe you will see things, and in particular, Courtney. 🤙🏻

@@teacupalice I think the comparison between Yoko and Courtney does not fit. The evidence that this was murder for hire is too much to ignore. But I'm a 46 year old man who lived through all of that and have a different perspective than you.

Can someone tell me why Bill and Peter are never with them? Just curious.

Bill is retired. No idea why Peter never joins them though.

Bill left R.E.M. in 1997. Buck seems to have left R.E.M. completely behind after they disbanded in 2011. Seems like he wants no part of these legacy promotions.

Peter is always on the road still playing with all these other bands that he joins or kinda put together like little mini super groups

Bill left in 1997 as mentioned below and Peter like minded to bill has just been there and done that, their music speaks for It's self and while they are asummably happy about the reissues for the fans sake they don't have the time to waste promoting something they proudly created and released 25 years ago and plus they have two leading members who are perfectly comfortable with doing the exact opposite respectively. Bill and Peter did their time and they are justifiably finished. Obviously It's not out of disgust for the process It's just personally neither of their nacks judging from what we know. I Love What all four of those guys did together, they were a decent, compassionate and legendary band from top to bottom, begun and end. And their musical impact will endure until we are all pretty much wiped out of universal history. I mean honestly fr if you think about long lived bands that are hallmarks of popular music their are obviously a few but the fundamentals are The Beatles, QUEEN and then theirs R.E.M. which imo they are better than queen and equal to the best that beatles catalog has to offer in equivalence to their time period. ✌🤘🖖 P.S. I fully realize this spun off Into an ass kissing rant and I realize i'm a complete fucking music dork but this band changed my life and they will deservingly last the ages. And oddly enough alot of people still sleep on their best work and or if not damn near all of their music generally, It's surprising. Long live R.E.M. Remember every moment.
