In addition, John DiMaggio makes the Joker sound cold, calculating and very intelligent. He only breaks into a fit of madness near the end of Red Hood. Really great perspective.

I think Hamill is remembered as “thinner” because of the redesign/ Arkham. His design in the original animated series and Phantasm is a unit who dwarves nearly everyone besides Batman. I think Joker is meant to be larger than you’d expect a clown to be, and that’s part of why he’s so imposing. Even Ledger was 6’1”, imagine if he was 5’8”; the effect isn’t the same

That is just my opinion of course.

Juliano Augusto I personally LOVED DiMaggio's Joker almost as much as Hamill. Close second for sure but God damn did it set a high bar. His laugh alone brought something new to the table and sent so many shivers down my spine. His dialogue was also extremely funny and dark, just like The Joker is supposed to be. Much darker than Hamill but good Lord I loved every second. I hope he gets the role again someday. Because it is phenomenal. I could see him voicing the New 52 version of Joker.

The point is that Heath Ledger's Joker was so incredibly inspiring that he basically changed the formula of Joker's personality. He is now less clownish, deeper voice, his insanity is much darker, he is more violent and he doesn't use acid flowers and lethal palm-buzzers as much.

BPAdemo What's the point of having a clown as your bad guy, when he doesn't use demented gags to kill people. That's the POINT of the Joker. He kills people in zany psychotic ways. Like using one of those bang guns that fires twice. Once to show the hang flag, and the next to embed that bang flag in some guy's chest. That's the problem with the Nolan films. They capture the Darkness of Batman but the soul is missing. Also, the comic Joker is still wonderfully zany, so no, Heath didn't change the formula for Joker.

The best part is the contrast with how childish his personality is here. He acts like his parents took away one of his toy cars. (But he still shows he's the boss, and making a villain both childish and menacing seems difficult without making them insane.)

DiMaggio's Joker is epic in my opinion, the deep voice really brings out the psycho in him. It's like the more experienced, battle hardened version of Joker. Troy Baker and DiMaggio are second place to Hamill's Joker (it is legendary, after all), and 2004's "The Batman" animated series' Joker Kevin Richardson is third. All others are pretty much unknown to me.

Coming off Mark hamil's joker I was skeptical, but I won't lie when I first saw this movie I got used too and started loving this joker voice. Not sure I'd want every joker like this, but it's perfect for a cold, dark story like Under the Red Hood. Really sells how fked the entire situation was for Jason

This Joker just terrifies me, and that's a good thing. With John DiMaggio, one minute he's making jokes and making you laugh, the next, sending shivers down to your very core in fear. That takes a lot to do, and he does it *well*. 4:32 *Black Mask:* "I need you to murder the Red Hood. You think you can handle that?" *Joker:* /easily murders Black Mask's five bodyguards with one cup and four bullets in five seconds flat/ This is why we can't have nice things...or cups that aren't made of plastic.

I love how delighted at the irony of the situation he was in when Jason kicked that door down and all the pieces came together. He didn't care if he was about to die, because for the Joker, the only thing that matters is "the bit". Even at the expense of his self-preservation.
