what's so cool about cloud is his absurd willpower. overcoming mako poisoning, mentally rejecting being a sephiroth clone, etc. the tragedy of cloud is not only that he is a nobody trying to play Big Hero but also the hidden truth that the reverse is what is actually true. his impostor syndrome is so bad that he invents a fake persona that, in many ways, is actually less cool than he actually is.

Some may question why Sephiroth didn't just let go of his sword... but that was always his problem; his refusal to accept things. When it seemed he had inhuman, monstrous origins, he refused to accept it and instead decided to think of himself as his divine mother's "Chosen One" in his desperate bid to piece his shattered pride and self-confidence back together. In the same vein, he doesn't let go of his sword even when lifted up because that would be admitting to the fact that this nobody, this random Shinra grunt side character, not only caught him by surprise with a backstab, but in doing so weakened him enough to be able to pull *this* stunt. He rejects that reality, and thus makes himself incapable of simply letting the sword go and attacking a different, less "superior" manner. That complex was and always will be his downfall.

In the fake flashback, when you get into a battle Sephiroth can't even be hit by the dragon and Cloud gets one shot. The thing is, that was Zack not cloud and Sephiroth, although powerful, was not as powerful as Cloud's manipulated mind made him think. Sephiroth wanted to make Cloud think he was weak, even when Cloud thought he was SOLDIER, to keep him in line. Sephiroth not taking any hits from the dragon is the idealized version of Sephiroth Cloud had from all the legends. Sephiroth wanted him to get the Black Materia and join the reunion, like a good little puppet.

Cloud’s problem has always been a lack of confidence. His perceived “failures” in his life (in particular when he could’ve save Tifa from falling off the bridge at Mt. Nibel) convinced him that he wasn’t good enough, so when he failed to make SOLDIER, it was a self-fulfilling prophecy. Even though he was always more than physically capable of making the cut. And when he’s telling his story to the group in Kalm, he can’t remember what happened when he fought Sephiroth in the Nibelheim reactor (partly because he DIDN’T actually fight him), but mentions that “in terms of skill, I couldn’t have killed him.” I know it was mainly because his memories were messed up, but it was also because part of him couldn’t fathom that HE, a mere infantrymen, a nobody from a backwater country, could even defeat the most powerful SOLDIER on the planet. Let alone kill him. Cloud was always good enough. He was always “SOLDIER” material. He just never believed he was, until he had his moment.

It's a lot of different factors. This was Cloud's do-or-die moment. Like, people really be sleeping on how Cloud can even PICK UP AND SWING the buster sword, and HE HAS NO MAKO ENHANCEMENTS. He's certainly not as strong as Sephiroth, but in this moment, his rage at losing things precious to him sends Cloud over the edge into full adrenaline overdrive. So many people downplay Cloud's pre-Hojo experiment days but the man was still a fucking monster. It's noted he always had impressive sword skills even as just a Shinra foot soldier. That doesn't make him special, though. He's a nobody who doesn't believe in his own strength to the point that even AFTER the hojo experiments which turned him into a full blown fucking super soldier he STILL believes he's not strong. This is the same guy that beat Sephiroth at the end of FF7. Hojo's experiment didn't "make" Cloud strong. It turned everything that was already inside cloud up to 11 (including his issues) and gave him even MORE power. Hell, Sephiroth became a nigh immortal God due to Jenova. It's the reason Sephiroth takes interest in him specifically. Whole armies couldn't do what Cloud did to Sephiroth in this moment.

Well we can explain why Sephiroth doesn't let go. He's like Cloud was as a kid. Sephiroth believes everyone to be beneath him at this point. To let go of the sword would mean he has to accept that this nobody Shinra grunt just slid down the muramasa after impaling him only to then PHYSICALLY OVERPOWER him. Bear in mind at this point Sephiroth believes himself to be "Chosen" to rule the planet. So in his mind, why would the chosen one, the war hero, need to admit that someone, much less a nobody, is stronger than him? Cloud’s problem was never his physical strength. He’d always had that in abundance. (In the OG game, after his mind is repaired with Tifa’s help, he actually says “Physically, I’m built like someone from SOLDIER.”) His problem was always his lack of confidence in himself. But when Sephiroth burned his village, killed his mom, and grievously wounded Tifa, Cloud only saw red. There’s an old saying: “Beware the quiet man. For while others speak, he watches. And while others act, he plans. And when they finally rest, he strikes.”

Also in the Nibelheim flash back Zack(cloud in the flashback) was talking to Sephiroth he said "They gave me some new materia (the pre emptive strike), I can't wait to use it" Zack knows the materia researcher in crisis core it is likely they are the one that gave it to him in the ff7 og. I don't know about the ff7 rebirth but it is not in the rebirth.

Cloud s move doesn’t make sense - newton x meter > at the edge of the sword his weight works maximum, moving closer won’t make him able to lift Sephiroth. - They should have combined it with an accident on the bridge in the reactor, so that the sword stabs cloud but is also underneath the handrail of the bridge. Sepiroth is not able to lift him, because of the handrail behind him, but cloud can lift Sephiroth.

Cloud is a most luckiest guy alive in final fantasy, Not only Rage literally help Cloud throw him off the cliff, Cloud is also lucky to kill alive sephiroth, Not only that, Sephiroth we know is already dead and he got nerfed so much but even dead sephiroth got nerfed, dead Sephiroth still manage to beat Cloud but Aierth, Tifa and Barret save Cloud just before dead Sephiroth about to kill Cloud, and Avalanche team beat Sephiroth, Cloud is lucky for second time at Remake, Cloud is lucky Sephiroth we know is just a haunting cloud, He lucky to be alive today!

Sephiroth, a legendary war hero and super solider with newly aquired delusions of grandeur, was folded by Cloud, a lowly Shinra infantryman. That's like Master Chief getting felled by a Grunt in Halo, or Link dying to a Chuchu in Zelda. Damn, I would be pretty salty, too. I hate it whrn people say Cloud couldn't save anyone this night. Nor could Zack that night, he failed to save anyone and got defeated. It's Cloud who literally saves everyone who survived that night by being the one to kill and defeat Sepiroth. Had he not, Sepiroth would've killed everyone as no one was stopping him. Why do people ignore that fact? Cloud saved Zack and everyone before Zack saved him. Cloud never failed to make Soldier for physical weaknesses, it was mental instability that made him unsuitable for the Jenova experiment which is what Soldier really was at heart. Cloud was juat a kid, younger than Zack, hell even Zack was teaching Cloud so he could retake the assessment for Soldier. He his not injected with Zacks being, he does not inherit his skills, his skills are his own, his strength is his own magnified which is what leads hin to be able to go on and solo more powerful forms of Sepiroth, twice. But, he's literally a stone throws away from becoming a robed man until Tifa finds him in Midgar and the sight of Tifa alone was enough to pull Cloud back but his mass insecurity combined with PTSD let's him create a fiction to protect himself, a hybrid personality between him and Zack. Zack is not a cold hearted merc, nor is Cloud it is a shield. Remember it's been 5 years for Tifa but the last thing Cloud will remember is killing Sepiroth, to him that incident was pretty much a few days ago, his mom is dead, town destroyed, Tifa maybe dead and he wakes up to watch his best friend get murdered. You can't even begin to fathom how mentally destroyed Cloud is at this point. Between seeing Tifa and the fiction his mind creates it saves him from becoming a true puppet in that moment and lays the foundation for him to make the influence Sepiroth/Jenova has over him irrelevant, again thanks to Tifa.

As much as I love this scene I feel Cloud being able to wield the Buster Sword and move like he does in the Remake/Advent Children prior to the experiments that were done on him takes away some of weight the original scene had.

I respectfully disagree. I think people forget that Cloud is the 'chosen one'. His story gets lost between Zack and Sephiroth but he was always stronger than both of them. Cloud physically killed Sephiroth (in this scene) and then mentally/spiritually kills him again (after the party defeats Safer Sephiroth). They don't necessarily explain why he's as powerful as he is, but pre Jenova cells Cloud kills Sephiroth and post Jenova cells Cloud kills God Sephiroth and his spiritual entity (one on one at that). I'm not saying its good writing, I'm just saying that Cloud was always more powerful.
