Freestyle Tutorial (Advanced Aerials) | Rocket League

Go ahead and try counting how many times I said the word "freestyle". Go on, I dare you! Apologies if this one sounded a bit quick. There was so much to get through and I didn't want the episode going longer than it had to. I'll slow down next time.
*ALSO* To everyone telling me about the 390 degrees vs 330 degrees, I know. The 30 degree arrow should actually be flipped, but I realized it too late after making the video. Oh well.

Of all the air roll aerials/freestyle tutorials out there, you are the FIRST person to state that the way you control the direction of your aerials is with your BOOST. Holy shit. When I first started Rocket League about a year ago I stumbled upon Kuxir and watched some of his freestyles and thought "I'm never gonna be able to do that." nearly 400 hours of gameplay later, I'm starting to get it right now!

He rebound his air-roll/drift key to R2, I think. It's defaulted to a rather inconvenient key (can't remember which). The air-roll key is the same as your drift key when driving around, but then in the air.

His air roll is L1. R2 is his acceleration (gas)

Finally a nice and straight to the point tutorial video with no bs and absolutely good information. subpar's newest tutorial video is laughably ridiculous. I mean the whole message was, "your car flips the same direction as your thumb stick is placed at the time of your second jump, even upside down or backwards!" And it took 15 minutes to "explain" it all. What a joke, it's not like we are brand new players, and they're not the target audience.

For PS4, important to remap your air roll to L1. Square is not practical.

Same goes for Xbox players as well. I didn't talk about rebinding because it's entirely possible to do it with default controls, but the earlier a player changes their controls, the easier it is to adapt.

I can use L1 it's hard 2 u it but with square is easier but L1 is better cuz if u need 2 boost in the air u do it simply but with square u need 2 lift ur thumb or use a different thumb but I use square but it's hard 2 use it with freestyles I can't even do it help

Great video as always, you're tutorials are so well done and you explain everything perfectly. Despite that, I don't know how to fix my problem. Even after your tutorial and many others like it, the whole perspective and where the camera is just won't click with me im not even talking about aerials but on the ground. I'm past 1000+ hours of game time and I feel like I've been playing wrong for so long that no matter what I try I can't overcome this.

Muscle memory seems to be screwing you over xD I would say try playing freestyle a bit and mix up controls to try and break the muscle memory and make new muscle memory for actually doing good xD

I think freestyles give more freedom to move, if you freestyle your car has more control of where you go, it also allows you car to spin faster, allowing you to apple boosts at various angles in order to not only provide sick flips spins etc. but more of a controlled flight path for your car, making it easier to hit the ball multiple times for an "air dribble" or "air drag"

I have another tip, the default air roll button puts your hands in a strange position so it can make it hard to freestyle and recover, i would recommend making your air roll button left bumper then make scoreboard right bumper and you'll be good to go

Flying backward the rear of the car goes left to right like the analog stick, use that to help keep you orientated until it becomes more natural

I can do most of these things somewhat reliable in a controlle environment (practise mode etc.) But online in a 3v3 etc. people just ball chase everything and you cant get any play off. Let aside that the pace is higher.

Trying to learn myself how to freestyle... Set my self up a nice wall to aerial, and being doing it over and over and over again. Doing normal carries first to make the goal consistent then added different twists and shit.. Getting there... 😋🤘
