unfortunately, people still do end up sexualizing them :( I’ve tried to look for fanart on Pinterest to get some inspiration, but ended up getting edits and drawings of them in super short skirts and fishnets (which usually aren’t an issue, but in this case, it’s just plain gross) and I was so uncomfortable I almost cried - but that part could just be me being sensitive. but same to this comment. I love them so much and they make me super happy and they’re probably my comfort band at this point - since I’ll watch da da dance and get instant serotonin when I see Moa singing her part lmao 💀💀

Babymetal is groundbreaking not just because of their style but because they brought positivity and joy to metal. It needed it. Those old artists like the new energy.

I totally agree. I grew up in and around the bay area trash metal scene, and by 2005 could barely listen to most metal because; cookie monster singers. Metal needed this. But I don't look forward to the day when this becomes the new cookie monster (no doubt producers are already working on it). New things are good, but not after they become a must-have gimmick.

I am in Canada and watch Baby Metal videos everyday now, and am one month short of 69 years old and I absolutely love BABYMETAL and I think YUI METAL is the cutest little rock star ever seen on planet earth. I could not be happier for these young women. Being pulled from their early group to form Babymetal. It takes courage considering in their early years they said the first time they really listened to metal that it scared them to go on to be one of the biggest bands I'm a genre I'm sure nobody expected. No band could do kawii metal like Babymetal. Any band that trys is just an copy of something great. I do look forward to see how far this band will go and pray they will be around for years to come. Why not? I have all 3 of their albums in my car, I even imported the Japanese version of Metal Resistance to get Syncopation. Be proud of being a fan of this group, they're the best thing going for music today. A group of 20-22 year olds with a decade of experience already, no egos, no drugs, no drama, they tour their asses off all around the world and never half ass a show whether it's 55,000 at the Tokyo Dome or 1,800 at the Coca Cola Roxy Theater (I can personally vouch for the later), and not one of their 3 albums has presented a drop in quality from the previous. There's no where else you can find that combination.

Those factors but also for anyone to interview them, they must meet first with a team of handlers and get a lecture, then submit all questions for approval. That's what a guy who interviewed them said....and the girls are coached on certain answers too and can't stray much from very basic questions.

The sounds used in our language are quite different and it's hard for them to pronounce "V" and "R" sounds for sure, "R" and "L" gets mixed up. Often they will use a "B" instead of "V" as in "Foreba" instead of "forever" and "Lob" instead of "Rob" I'm sure I would sound way off if I tried speaking Japanese too!

If you tell them to read the words "Ong" then they will say "Ong", and when you ask them to say "On" they will still say "Ong" no matter how hard you try lol

I've seen several other of their English interviews where the interviewer would use a more...colorful language to express excitement. Japanese grow up learning English in a very pedagogic manner, and shades of the meaning of more...interesting ways to express strong emotions may be lost in translation. In one of the interviews, I saw Su was quite taken aback when the reporter complimented their performance as "...f****ng amazing...". I'm sure that Su and Moa's English has gotten better now, but I imagined that the girls must be in shock about how profanity can also double as something that intensifies positive message in spoken English.
