Many a barn has burned to the ground from spontaneous combustion of a season’s hay stored within, so please don’t consider covering the hay as a viable option. Tough decisions for sure. Covering it even with a mesh will add to the heat it self generates plus add to that the heat generated from the metal roof in the heat of the summer. So also maybe consider some smoke alarms in your barn maybe tied to phone apps? I’m so glad you found Sissy, that was scary for sure. 💕 Happy for your many Blessings Morrow family!

Netting wouldn't work for the little chickens. They might get caught in it once they got up there. Not to mention if they are laying eggs, you might have a few rotten eggs falling to the concrete. Not a good smell, especially if you can't find or get to them to clean it up. I looked on amazon...they have some pretty large mesh tarps under $80 each. And it might be better. Or you may have to tarp from ceiling to floor, like a tarp wall, and just have it where it can be rolled up or back when you have to get the hay. That would keep the babies safe. Glad yall found her. Amd the look on LEs face said it all. That's his baby girl. God bless and yall be safe and stay cool. ❤From a fellow Texan❤

Just a fyi...freshly baled hay retains heat. In Iowa we've had instances where a hay barn has burned down from it. It probably contributed to Sissy's body heat.

Oh bless her little heart. Little Sissy had no idea of the commotion she had caused, however, she must have been frightened and the way she snuggled into LE was so precious and the way LE held onto her for dear life was gorgeous to watch. I have no suggestions for the hay issue, but I'm sure there are some really creative people on here that will give some great ideas if you haven't come up with one yourselves. I hope you can figure out some way to keep everyone safe, most farms keep hay bales out of reach from their animals, as far as the chickens there's nothing you can do to keep them out I guess just watch to make sure when they go broody try to move them 😊I'm so excited for your amount of hay though it's a blessing for your babies, But it's an new adventure. You know earlier when the guys were all loading up the hay in the barn and the little ones were running around I got so scared that maybe one would get run over or get smashed by a hay bale or stuck in between some but at the same time not a good outcome. I'm so glad you found her something told me that she was in amongst the hay I just had that funny feeling when I saw all the hay being piled up in there. I think when you guys are moving the big tractors around and hay bales think stuff like that those babies are too little to be running around while that big piece of machinery and hay bales are being moved around. You can't see them it's just like a toddler walking in front of your car You can't see them because they don't their head doesn't come up above the hood or the trunk. You need to be having them secure someplace before you do anything like that again. Promise me
@Nirrrina3 жыл бұрын
Definitely lock them up for a bit. That's what the horse stalls are for. No way to get out of there. Possibly the pool yard would work too.
@daffodilunderhill70663 жыл бұрын
I agree. No one, children or animals, should be around when heavy machinery is in use. My friend's 4 yr old nephew was crushed and killed while his daddy was loading hay bales. Instructions to "Stay on the fence" wasn't enough precaution.
