The Oscar rightfully belonged to Mary Tyler Moore for her amazing performance in Ordinary People. 42 years later I am still outraged by that slight. Now she’s dead and gone and there’s no way to ever right that wrong. “I can say Doo with a southern accent”. Wow, what a talent!

What a great actress and there are so many things right with this performance and this pick. First of all, Ms Spacek was perfectly cast. That natural twang in her voice and her feistiness belonged to Loretta Lynn as well. Who else could have convincingly aged from thirteen to middle age? Who could have brought the depth of emotion and the changes to this character from naive mountain girl to overwhelmed music legend? And who else could have done her own singing well enough to do honor to the real life woman? Nobody else. A virtually unparalleled triumph.

Sissy is the poster woman for what an artistic performer should work towards. She is amazingly talented, kind, generous and humble as well as beautiful. Performers should strive towards the example she sets, rather than embracing narcissism, greed and fame at any cost. Audiences should embrace the hard working, talented and kind members of our society and disregard the narcissistic and selfish ones.

Dustin received his Oscar the year before and presented Sissy her Oscar. They star in a new movie with his son and her daughter, SAM & KATE , being released 11/11. I saw film premiere last Friday at Austin Film Festival and was very pleased with the acting and endearing story. A movie that will lift your spirits!

Coal miners daughter was the first movie I ever watched as a child and Sissy so deserved this but Mary Tyler Moore's performance in ordinary people took my breath away it was so honest and real. Glad I wasn't the academy members who had to choose that year.

MTM was very effective, but her role was limited and she was generally one-note, not to mention almost supporting. Sissy gave a real tour-de-force performance in a terrific movie that was built around her. There was no competition. MTM was competitive because of her veteran status. Thank God the Academy didn’t get suckered into that.
