I was laid off from my job of 13 years in March due to this pandemic. I applied to become a 911 Dispatcher in the city I live in a few days ago. They responded to me said I was qualified and they had me take that test... it was no joke... it's definitely a multitasking job which I feel like is one of my strongest skills. I passed the exam... didn't get a perfect score but enough to schedule an interview on July 16th. I am excited and nervous because as a kid I always wanted to become a Police Officer or have some connection with the Police. Now I can potentially get my foot in the door. Wish me luck!

How did the process for you go? update on the overall process did you do polygraph? Details please
@DrBJP6 жыл бұрын
Christa Felix, so I checked it at 930am, and I met with the coordinator. After I was signed in, I went into a “computer room” with other candidates. She read off the instructions and said “you need a 80%” to move onto the interview phase, which I stated I received a 91%. Then I have my interview next, upon completion of interview: I have polygraph, physical, drug screen, and I be a physiological examination, and if all goes well...we shall see what’s next for my career. The test itself was pretty easy and self explanatory. You need 4000 wpm in total to also pass so make sure you’re familiar with the keys on the keyboard. Just as Laura explained in the video is the east same way the testing is done. You need to focus on memorization, listening skills, and placement between the numbers and letter (example I &1 close together seem the same) let me know if you need further explaining.

I passed it today without much prep, it wasn't bad at all. Hardest part was when you're taking down verbal information and the alert buzzer sounds and you've gotta answer that question while they're telling you a phone #/address/etc. That was annoying. But other than that, pretty dang simple. Good luck to all! Thank you, Laura, for this informative vid! Helped me prepare mentally.

Hey, I have the Criticall test tomorrow and I'm just soaking whatever I can in. This is honestly the best bit of information I've found. This is better than the $40 programs and free practice tests out there. Keep up the work. And might I suggest maybe branching out a little and making a series of videos for each section of the test and include a link to your own website with a test?! It would be a great way to grow your channel, your educational influence, and make a few bucks. I would love to have something like that and pay a small fee or subscription. You'd blow that stuff out of the water! What's out there is awful. Please consider it!

@@HeidiAndScots I passed without issue. I ended up not taking the job as the conditions were poor. Estimated 5-10 years working graveyard and mandatory overtime, work all holidays, on call. I’d basically never see my family. Total bummer. They’re always short staffed too. Hard for anyone to swing that. I did learn a new sense of appreciation for the people that do the job. I now work at the county prosecutors office.

Okay guys I just passed my critical test I am sooo happy seriously guys I didn’t think I could do it I was about to not even show up But okay so the critical starts off with the typing test try to practice : () Practice entering the data the spelling was easy it was basically on homophones illicit was one of the words and whether was another also whole, son and I don’t remember the other words oh their and to Idk how I passed the map section but I did it essentially time so I had enough time to read the multiple questions and just follow the directions and see if it led me to the right direction Memorization So I thought when u are giving ur 6 words u would have to type it but no what it is is that u basically have 6 words and let’s say you have Eyes Nose Ears Mouth Shirt Plain They would ask what word was associated with shirt and the answer would be plain

I passed! West coast dispatch hiring process here. It was brutal! For data entry and story remembering, the person spoke extremely fast. I would argue much faster than a normal person would give information. Thank God I practiced. This isn't an innate thing - it needs to be practiced. At least at the testing center I went to. I was really tired by the end. All I know is I passed it. Best of luck to everyone - Practicing data entry and someone giving you license plate numbers and phone numbers and addresses with no pauses, very fast, is a necessity.

Very interesting to hear about those tasks. I can actually imagine that many people don't pass it - very specific skills are necessary to be able to succeed in this job, right? I had to laugh about the spelling of "their, there or they're" - this alone eliminates TONS of applicants ;-) Thanks for sharing your experience!

Yes indeed it is very interesting!!! I was surprised that so many more people don’t pass... thanks for watching!!!

Just did my test today. With the pandemic going on I was able to take it at home but it was exactly how you described it. I even had the word illicit on my exam lol
@anstasiablagmon42894 жыл бұрын
Any advice on prepping?
@tirado0334 жыл бұрын
Anstasia Blagmon it’s mostly how she explains in the video but I would recommend to be quick yet calm and attentive. You do a lot of typing, you have to listen through calls. There is a spelling test. There is a portion of the test where they write out a sentence two different ways and you have to choose which is the correct way. There’s a simulated call where someone gives you random information about a situation and then they’ll ask you a specific question about that call. For instance let’s say someone says they went to the store in a red car at 3 PM and bought three watermelons and paid $13 they might ask you what color was the car they went to the store in. There’s a section where you have to put peoples information in, like name address phone number while simulating a call. They won’t necessarily give it to you in order to so you have to be able to bounce back-and-forth through different fields. There’s a screen that pops up on the bottom of the screen telling you of a certain situation and you have to determine what department to send that call to. Prior to the testing they explain what each department handles. There is a section where they explain a story and then ask you what the purpose of the story was. Before each test you can take a practice test so I always take them and take your time. They give you plenty of time to test. Don’t rush yourself. Good luck!

Laura Bryant well I’m back. I already know I fail badly. It was too damn long and I had a pounding headache that got worse by the minute to the point I stared marking anything. Uuugghhh I’m so disappointed in myself. I’ll know the results by Monday
@LauraBryant6 жыл бұрын
Michelle Hall maybe not. Depending on the agency, a lot of them don’t list you continue if you fail a section.
@michellehall79366 жыл бұрын
Laura Bryant she told us they don’t stop it anymore do to embarrassment. You take the entire 14 modules no matter how you’re doing. I found it difficult to type the information and read the incoming emergency calls. Doing that made me miss the information that was being fed to me through the headset. Uugghh.
