This is more than a podcast, this is a journey into another land, another culture with fascinating traditions, such as the care and love and precision put into creating your costumes all by hand, for example, or the points of view that range from the history of fashion to making Rob work. Never is there lack of humour, humility, and something precious that I always take with me. Thank you for sharing it all with us.🥰

It is encouraging to me, as a novice knitter, to know that even folks as talented as you two are sometimes have 'challenges', so I appreciate the honest, dogma style shows. I was almost done with the heel of the first sock I knit before I realized that I was adding it to the front of the sock! What a weird fit that would have been - but, it taught me to be more careful the next time. I am looking forward to every Wednesday evening now as I get to see you in your home and it is uplifting for sure! Thanks for sharing with us!

Congratulations Carlos on your weaving success! Of course we all know that practice makes perfect and that the majority of the time we have to really work at new skills to gain mastery over them. However, every once in a long while lightning strikes and something just clicks - and I think it's great to savour those victories! One of the first cooking projects I ever tried when I was 11 was a cheese souffle - and it turned out perfectly. haha my Mum was both proud and a bit put out as she'd had much spottier success with souffles herself. I still remember how good it felt to pull that perfect souffle out of the oven and serve it to my family.

Arne, you have done so well with your weaving, and it looks so involved. Carlos attempted a different way to weave this garter, and both look wonderful. Sometimes we try so hard to make it a certain way, and to do it perfectly, and that is okay too. We all learn from what we do. I can understand Arne's idea of why he wanted it to work traditionally. I love watching you wonderful guys, as you inspire and uplift me with your great videos. I have Norwegian ancestry, as my grandfather came from Oslo, and when I saw the picture of the Norwegian national costume, I felt goosebumps and a heartfelt connection to my ancestry. Third time's a charm Arne. Setting timers is a must for me if I'm busy with addictive crafts as well. I wonder how close the garter weaving is to our Native American sash weaving? I imagine the technique is similar. That's the drawback to the digital age, not enough "hard copy" paper items anymore. We are always all learning aren't we? Constructive criticism is a good thing :) I really like the new block!! I'm such a chatty Cathy.

Having grown up in the US from several generations of those living here, I do not have a strong identity to a culture. So it is always fascinating to me to see and learn about folk costumes. I enjoy this information very much. In the last episode of Fruity Knitting, Andrea is dressed in a folk costume of the Faroe Islands and it was quite lovely. Anyway, it i something we lack as an American culture because we are a melting pot of so many cultures. Maybe in a few centuries a more unified American folk costume will emerge. Would be interesting to see. Thank you for another fun episode, even with the insistent dogs. When they barked, my dogs barked thinking it was someone outside. It made me laugh.

There is a book titled Byways in Hand-weaving by Mary Meigs Atwater that illustrates the type of weaving you are doing for your garters. I bought the book, which was published in 1954, on Amazon. The garter weaving is called Osage Braiding or Finger Weaving in this book and an illustration can be seen on page 62. Instructions are also included in the chapter on Braiding and Knotting. A weaver friend introduced me to this technique as well as card weaving. Happy weaving.

So the garters are braided! ☺️ You two have a symbiotic relationship! It’s a good thing!!! 💞 By making your folk costumes, you’re learning so much! Maybe you could make extra garters if you want change things up or for very special occasions? What fantastic gifts they’d make!

I loved this episode so much. Particularly when you were talking about how you can enjoy something so much and it doesn't have to be perfect. It reminded me of when my husband and I took two of our kids out to go canoeing and none of us know how to do it. We basically went capsizing. Got to perfect towing the canoe back in. Never actually got the canoeing part down but we had such a great time and laughed so much. It is a story we still are talking about and love. Thank you so much for putting out these episodes. It is just a joy to watch the two of you.

You two make me so inspired. When I was in 7th grade my folks bought me this lovely Swiss grey outfit. It was a really full skirt and vest. It was trimmed in embroidery on the pockets and vest. Of course I was in an interurban school and got picked on because of it. But I still loved the outfit. So now43 years later I am going to recreate it. I used to love to sew and create. You have inspired me to do this. Thank you. I wish I could give you a big hug. Bless you.

Hi Arne and Carlos. I am binge-watching your videos all this week (you might have seen some comments I made to old videos). And now there's a new one again here. This format ('sit and knit for a bit ...' podcasts), with you just sitting somewhere and talking to us, I like this the most! I want to make a little remark on red knitted hats (and not only hats) in general: wool coloured red with madder (rubia tinctoria) was very popular in the past. It was considered good for the health of the wearer.
