To some extent, it depends on the relative length of your leg bones. If you have relatively long shin bones it's going to be more difficult. Same with trying to squat down and land your butt on the floor. Which I'm assuming you can do. And for taller people it's going to put more torque on the knee joints. If you have any meniscus injury it will be impossible. But if you have healthy knees I think this would be excellent along with shrimp squats and pistol squats if you have the flexibility.

No I can't do an asian squat, even after years of stretching, my knees just don't go over my toes very far with my anatomy. I can do a 1 legged squat only with my heel propped up, or with my floating leg behind me for better balance so I can lean forward. You're right, our anatomies can be very different, but I hadn't heard of people not being able to do this because of that before. We have to work with what we have got =)

@@ClaireLouiseHay That surprises me that you can do what you're doing and not Asian squat. I know many yoga teachers who squat right down and sit on the floor and go right back up without using their hands. I do shrimp squats like you. I started out going down with my knee onto a yoga block at the highest level. After years I'm at the lowest level. I know two yoga teachers who can, from a squat, drop both knees down to one side and come back up without using their hands. Pretty amazing. I think, if you could squat you could probably do that. I did your sit to stand in a yoga class a couple years ago and got a very loud "pop" out of one of my knees. Decided discretion was in order. Anyway, I'm doing my best to age disgracefully too.

@@Blair62 Yes the asians definitely have a different body structure, my ankles just have an end point in going forward like bone meets bone, cannot go any further, it's not a muscle tightness thing with me. We can only work with what we have, but I think there is a way anyone can do it, with enough training it

@@ClaireLouiseHay I agree. Eventually most people should be able to get it. I was having back problems in my early forties and I read that squatting was good for your back. I worked on it daily for five years before I was able to get all the way down. Ankles, back, hips, etc, everything was just too tight.

@@Blair62 good job! Yes any kind of problem like that is a lack of training a lack of strength. Even more sedentary behavior is absolutely the worst thing to do

How many 77 yr. olds have you seen follow these steps? (minus the life-long gymnast types)
