'Sit up!': Caroline Lucas slams Jacob Rees-Mogg's body language during Brexit debate

Green MP Caroline Lucas has accused Jacob Rees-Mogg of displaying 'contemptuous' body language to MPs as he lay sprawled across the government front bench during an emergency Brexit debate. Rees-Mogg was representing the government in his role as leader of the House as rebel MPs attempted to seize control of the order paper and force Boris Johnson to delay Brexit. The government lost the vote by by 328 votes to 301 - a majority of 27.

What "Democracy"? We don't have a democracy. We have FPTP & with FPTP both Cameron and Blair managed to get a 'majority' of seats in Da House with only 24% of the electorate voting for their parties. That isn't a democracy. Likewise with the brexit referendum - that cannot be called 'democratic' for much the same reasons. With a 72% turnout & 52% voting 'Leave' - it actually amounts to 37.4% of the electorate who voted Leave (which in turn is only 27% of the population). Furthermore, if the referendum had been a legal contract, it would have been thrown out as non-binding because the voters didn't know what the 'Terms' of the contract were - and we *still* don't know what Brexit means 3 years later. How can it be called 'democratic' to vote on some issue, without knowing what the terms would be and what those terms mean for you, your job, your family, Healthcare system etc etc? Whatever 'Terms' can be negotiated by the government (the ones Theresa May negotiated - as Boris clearly has nothing new to offer and seeks to crash out with no deal) should be put to the people again - leave on those terms with remain as the alternative.
