Pt Ravi Shankar.... Most definitely a legend, is un-missable in the above list ... However in a previous video , *Rick* mentioned him and the influence his music has had on *The Beatles* , so I presumed they were aware of his legendary musician status, so didn't mention him .... But you guys are right, the above list is incomplete without his name .... And his *Jugalbandi* ie duets with the other greats are an absolute treat for anyone.

Rick it's amazing to see you having such finely tuned sensitivity to subtleties of Indian classical music. I don't know for how long you have been exposed to it, but you instantly respond to the beauty spots of Indian music like a true connoisseur. There are usually 21 strings in a professional sitar, but some may have down to 18- in any case, 6 are the prime strings for actual notes and the rest are for secondary notes and chords. It's one of the finest of Indian classical instruments, and is today one of the most widely known alongside tabla, thanks to Sitar maestro Pt. ('Pundit') Ravi Shankar and Ustaad ('Master') Allah Rakha respectively. . This is Raga Bhairavi (By-ruh-wee) which is of a serene, reclusive, and renunciant mood, with all notes 'komal' that is like flat (b); and therefore performed at the end of a concert. I hope you'll find someone to guide you through to listening to Raga music from entry to deepest treasures. Until then, please keep enjoying.

Something that's really cool is when Pandit Banerjee starts going off on the tabla, he starts playing rupak in keherwa - he's effectively playing septuple meter at quadruple speed within what Western music would define as 8/4 time.

Sitar and Veena are for stirring the souls. Those string are sometimes connected directly to the heart and it moves with the music. The wonderful thing this, this lineage was carried forward by generations after generation just by practice and playing back thousands of time. That is why the instrumentalist dedicates his / her whole life learning it and living by it. Glad that the grammar for music was built in India on a rock solid foundation of Raag, Taal and Sur and the legacy continues till today. And we have wonderful people to improvise it time and again with dedication, and without spoiling the grammar. Enjoy the music, treat your soul with classic notes and love more! The beauty of Niladri Kumar is that he is able to play a string instrument to sound very close to the human vocal cords. There are artists who can play an instrument to a T and hit the notes to the most accurate level but it will still sound "Strings & Metallic" but he is able to make it sound close to human vocals... Like if a classical vocalist sings the same raag, then vocalists tends to finish the same notes in many different variations.. But when we use an instrument to imitate the same note, there are limitations against the human abilities. He amongst the few artists who can create those variations. In other words, you if are able to sing the same Raag, then just imagine yourself humming it and that's exactly what he creates with his skills... He is Phenomenal. Skills like this separates artists like Ustad Zakir Hussain, Ustad Amjad Ali Khan, Ustad Shujat Khan, Pandit Shivkumar Sharma, Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia.. so in this world there are "THEM" and then there are Musicians no matter how good they are....

FYI: Raag Description: Any one who claims to know or appreciate music cannot be unaware of the queen of melodies i.e. Raag Bhairavi. The soft (Komal) notes and their smooth rendering with pleasing touches - simply mesmerizes the audience. A pleasant sobering atmosphere full of love and piety is created and one feels so close to the Supreme. Its compositions include several Songs Since it is an ocean of immense possibilities the melodic combitions can include all the twelve notes with skil.Raag Bhairavi IS ALWAYS PLAYED AT THE END OF ANY EVENT, MUSIC PRACTICE OR CONCERT.

Tabala can't be hit like drum, see that black round on tabala? Once I hit hard with my finger on it and that black thing just popped like rocket😂 that's the thing that allows tabala to get different sounds. On right side its Tabala on left drum is dekka, in Kerala that's the name😂... And we can adjust the tones there's few solid blocks around Tabala, by adjusting that its be done🙌.... Love you guys.. keep up... Come to India... Don't forget to bring the pretty good bro😂💖

Raags are the backbone of indian classical music..they are composed for different time period of the day... there is very famous tale that Tansen( taan-say-n) (mozart of india) could perform raag deepak(deepak literally means lamp) to such a perfection that it could actually heat up the whole surrounding and raag megh(megh literally means cloud) could cause rain....
